    Q
Can you use Nuvan Strips Behind a Wall?
I have about a one inch space between my baseboards and the wood floor, due to carpet removal. If it fit, could I place a strip into that space and duct tape it to get rid of bed bugs that may be hiding in the walls? This would be in my bedroom and my sons, as well as hall and living area. Would make sure the opening was tightly sealed with duct tape, but I want to be very careful, especially with my son's room.
    A

Nuvan Prostrips would not be something you would use to treat a wall void with as that wall still circulates air through the rest of your home and not only would the vapor not be able to build up like its supposed to (like when placed in an enclosed bag or box) but it also would not be safe to do so. Nuvan strips are not to be used where people regularly occupy the area.  You would be much better off getting rid of the bedbugs using the appropriate chemicals like in our Bed Bug Kits. These products will effectively eliminate the bed bugs and are safe to use when following the directions for application. You can also see all the steps needed to eliminate bedbugs by reviewing our Bed bug Guide.

  • Asked by Priya from Hyderabad

    Q
Can I put Nuvan ProStrips inside my mattress cover and sleep on the mattress?
    A

No, Nuvan ProStrips should not be used in any living areas such as bedrooms or living rooms. Nuvan ProStrips also would not be effective against an encasement as the insecticide vapor needs room to move throughout the treatment area, such as hanging in a closed closet or in an airtight storage container. Be sure to use Nuvan ProStrips and other insecticides in accordance with the product label. For bed bugs or dust mites, you should be sure to use bed bug proof encasements, such as Mattress Safe Sofcover Ultimate Total Mattress Encasement and Box Spring Encasements. Be sure to measure all dimentions of your mattress and box spring before ordering.

    Q
If I do not seal the bins, just hang a Nuvan strip above them, will I still eliminate bedbugs?
I have a large room in the basement that is 1300 square feet with no vents or windows. Can I place my stuff in bins with the lids off and with 1 strip hanging from the ceiling over the bins? Will that kill all the bed bugs?
    A
We recommend sealing the items you want into the smaller bins with a Nuvan Prostrip so that the vapors from the strip can circulate around the items in a strong enough concentration to kill bedbugs. Hanging one strip in a room with 1300 sq ft will not work because it is too much space for one strip. If you want to use the Nuvan strips to treat items in the entire sealed basement you will need to calculate how many cubic feet you have and use one strip per 100 cubic feet. Be sure to make sure there is plenty of space between each item so the vapor can circulate properly. Please read and follow the directions on the Nuvan Prostrips product label for best results. We do not recommend using Nuvan Prostrips as the sole product to eliminate bedbugs. Please take a few moments to check out our bedbug kits which come with all of the other products you may need to help eliminate this pest.

  • Asked by Marcella from Kenosha

    Q
Is it safe to use Nuvan ProStrips on animal toys and then have the animals use them again?
    A

All of the items should be fine to use as the Nuvan ProStrips are designed to not harm or leave an odor in treated items, only to build up a vapor to kill the insects. Clothes and stuffed animals/toys may want to be thrown in the washer or dryer just in case to make sure there are no lingering vapors or bugs on the items the children would come into close contact with. Also, the Nuvan strips are not to be used in rooms, only confined no airflow areas such as storage containers and trash bags that the items are placed in.

    Q
Is it safe to put my smaller electronics in a sealed bag with a Nuvan ProStrip in with them?
    A

Yes, you certainly could put your laptop and other electronics sealed in a bag with a Nuvan ProStrip. They will need to be sealed for 2-4 weeks and it is best to make sure things are loosely packed to insure that the vapors can adequately circulate through the items that need to be treated. Once you’re ready to take the items out of the bag, just let them air out for a day or two.

    Q
Can Nuvan Strips be used Behind Electrical Plates?
Can I place a Nuvan strip behind the light switch electrical plates, then replace plates and seal edges with duct tape? I already placed DE back there, but seems like the vapor from the strips would work better and reach further into the walls for better protection.
    A

Nuvan Prostrips would not be something you would use to treat around eletrical outlets with as that area still circulates air through the rest of your home (still a wall void like your baseboard) and not only would the vapor not be able to build up like its supposed to (like when placed in an enclosed bag or box) but it also would not be safe to do so. Nuvan strips are not to be used where people regularly occupy the area. You would be much better off getting rid of the bedbugs using the appropriate chemicals like in our Bed Bug Kits.  Or sticking with the dust you have already used in those areas. You can also see the steps needed to eliminate bedbugs in ALL different areas of the home by reviewing our Bed bug Guide.

    Q
The Nuvan ProStrips were accidentally put in a container with personal hygiene items. Are they safe to use?
The strip was put in a container with items such as soaps, lotion, razor blades and feminine hygiene products. Would these items be safe to use if they were cleaned or aired out?
    A

If the Nuvan Prostrips were still wrapped, the products should be fine and can be used. If the Nuvan Prostrips were open, we would recommend discarding all items, such as soaps, razor blades and feminine hygiene products.

    Q
Are the Nuvan ProStrips safe to use on beds and bed frames if I wrap them?
    A

Nuvan Prostrips can be used in the room where the beds or bed frames are if the room is sealed off completely. Nuvan Prostrips work best in confined spaces. You can wrap your bed/bed frame up, however, for the best results, we would recommend sealing off the room so that the insecticide can move through the treatment area.

  • Asked by E. from Brooklyn

    Q
Will Nuvan ProStrips kill bed bugs in a rolled up rug that is in a plastic bag?
I have a large rug that may have bed bugs in it, which is currently rolled up and bagged in plastic to make sure bugs don't spread.
    A

It is possible that the vapors from the Nuvan ProStrips will not reach all of the hiding places that contain bedbugs if its large and rolled up. We would recommend that you place them in for a minimum of 2 weeks and then unroll, vacuum, steam treat, apply a product that will be safe for the rug and kill on contact such as Steri-Fab.

    Q
Can I put a Nuvan ProStrips inside my vacuum cleaner bag?
    A

We do not recommend using the Nuvan ProStrips inside the vacuum cleaner. We would suggest discarding of the bag and replacing it, or emptying the contents of a cannister into a bag on the exterior of the structure. Please provide the targeted pest for further recommendations.

    Q
Exterminator put Nuvan strips in closet after treating apt for bed bugs
An exterminator placed a nuvan strips in my clothing and linen closets after treating my apartment for bed bugs. He used a total of 5 strips, 1 in each closet. He didn't mention needing to keep closets closed for 2 weeks and didn't mention needing to air out clothes before wearing them. Should I remove the Nuvan strips from the closets that I use daily? Do I need to put the clothes in the dryer before wearing or can i just remove the strip and air out the closet? Any advice is greatly greatly appreciated!
    A
We are going to suggest that you contact the manufacturer for the best procedure for this usage of the product since it is not the usage that we would recommend for this item. You can reach Amvac at 1-888-462-6822.

    Q
Can I use Nuvan ProStrips in an empty bedroom?
    A

We do not recommend you try to use Nuvan ProStrips to treat entire rooms as the vapor will have a hard time building to the needed level and moving into all of the cracks and crevices. You will be required to use multiple products and multiple applications of these products to control bedbugs. We recommend you take a look at our bedbug kits to see the products we recommend for bedbug control. Here is our article on How To Get Rid Of Bedbugs, which many people find very helpful.

    Q
Can I use Nuvan ProStrips to treat a microwave in a plastic bag?
    A

If the Microwave is sealed up in a plastic tub or bag, we see no reason why you could not use the Nuvan ProStrips.  Place one strip on top of the outside of microwave. After treatment, be sure to ventilate for at least 2 hours. Then thoroughly clean the microwave prior to use.

    Q
Can I use Nuvan strips in my car for bedbugs?
    A

Technically, yes, if applied according to the label instructions, Nuvan ProStrips can be used in a car (with all windows and doors fully closed) without posing any risk to nearby cars or buildings.  Nuvan strips must be kept in a closed unused car for a minimum of 2 weeks in order to be effective. You should also use a product such as Bedlam or Sterifab to treat all of the cracks and crevices where the vapor may not be able to penetrate.
