    Q
Does Permethrin SFR work on bed bugs, and if so how long does it last after you have sprayed?
    A

We would not recommend Permethrin SFR 36.8% for a bed bug treatment because they can easily grow resistance. We would definitely recommend something more like Temprid SC because it has two active ingredients that actually work against bed bugs that may have resitance to other products. We would recommend that you check our guide on How to get rid of bed bugs for more detailed information.

    Q
What ratio should I mix Permethrin SFR 36.8% in 2 gallon pump sprayer for wasps?
Want to kill them ...but mostly want them to relocate. How far around the perimeter do I spray?
    A

Permethrin SFR would be mixed at 1 2/3 fl oz per gallon of water for wasps.  We have a great guide with instructions on "How to Get Rid of & Kill Wasps" that might help, it includes a video of where you would spray to help deter them from nesting in areas around the home.

  • Asked by Anne
    09/20/2016
    Q
What time of year is appropriate to use Permethrin SFR 36.8%?
Live in Kansas I want to apply product on ground around hive to reduce hive Beetles.
    A

You want to be very careful when using Permethrin SFR 36.8% to treat for hive beetles as the Permethrin is highly toxic to bees! According to the attached article from the University of Arkansas about Managing Small Hive Beetles :   Soil Treatment - The pupal stage is a vulnerable time in the beetle life cycle. Slightly moist, loose, sandy soil is optimal for their development. Locating colonies on hard clay or rocky soil, rather than light sandy soil, can reduce the number of beetly larvae that successfully pupate. If larvae are present in the colony, soil around the hive can be treated with a permethrin drench to prevent the larvae from pupating, killing them in the soil.

We also suggest that you contact your local Extension office  to see what their recommendations are for as far as time frame for you to do this in your area. Most times they can give you much more precise advice on those times of years more specific to your local area.

  • Asked by Leah from Orlando, Fl

    Q
Is Permethrin SFR safe for couches?
I have a flea problem and want to treat my couches. I bought both Ppermethrin SFRr and Bifen XTS for the yard which one is safer for use on furniture
    A

Neither Permethrin SFR nor Bifen XTS can be applied to furniture.  Bifen XTS is also not able to be applied to carpets inside so would not be recommended for inside flea control.  Nyguard Plus would be a better option as it can be applied to upholstered furniture and other areas, it also is an odor neutralizer and contains an IGR (insect growth regulator) which is highly recommended when treating for fleas.  Please refer to our guide here for the best advice in effectively treating fleas both inside and out.

  • Asked by Pancho from Yuma, Arizona
    08/14/2017
    Q
What is the difference between Permethrin SFR 36.8% and Onslaught FastCap Spider and Scorpion Insecticide?
I have been using onslaught for interior and exterior of my house for black widows and scorpions for the past 2yrs and I was told that need to change insecticide every so often so the pest won't get immune to the insecticide.
    A

Onslaught FastCap is a unique insecticide that has an encapsulated pyrethroid plus prallethrin for quick knockdown. Permethrin SFR contains permethrin - a different pyrethroid - and it is not encapsulated. The encapsulation really helps products to last longer in the heat and sunlight in desert environments better than the Permethrin SFR would. Our other most popular insecticides to rotate with Onslaught would be Cyzmic CS or CyKick CS. You could always add 0.25 - 0.5 oz of ExciteR insecticide to either Cyzmic or CyKick for that extra quick knockdown, if desired.

  • Asked by M from Phoenix, Az
    10/25/2017
    Q
How long does a treatment of Permethrin SFR last?
I will be using it on the exterior of my home in Arizona for arachnids and wonder how often I would need to retreat the area to remain pest free.
    A

Since Permethrin SFR is an oil-based product it is going to be more prone to break down in the extreme heat and sunlight in your area faster than other products. You will likely have to reapply the Permethrin every 30 days to keep insect populations under control and have a strong residual still on the surface. We would suggest when you get ready to order more product in the future going with something better designed for your environment like Cy Kick CS or Onslaught FastCap which will also likely give a better control over arachnids and other pests they feed on due to their encapsulation.

    Q
What can I do to get rid of a massive spider population infesting my backyard? (about 2/3 acre on a hill)
    A
For spiders and other pests in a large area in the backyard, Permethrin SFR would be a good choice.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a hand pump sprayer.  It is labeled for just about any insect you could have.

  • Asked by Gregg from Duluth, Mn.
    04/23/2012
    Q
I want to treat cotton with permethrin placed in tubes to use rodents to kill ticks. What product/form?
How much should i buy and in what form? Powder, premixed liquid or concentrate? sprayable or what? How long is shelf life and is it safe to store in the house? I have a cabin with aprox an acre to two acres i would treat. I understand that i should probably treat the area this way for aprox 3 years to get the entire life cycle of ticks and larvae Correct?
    A

We do not have any experience using cotton soaked with permethrin in tubes on rodents so we can not offer advice on this type of application. Below is the advice we usually offer for tick control:

Permethrin SFR would be a great choice for indoor and outdoor tick control. We also recommend adding an insect growth regulator such as Archer IGR to Permethrin to stop the ticks from being able to develop while you are trying to eliminate the infestation. Do not make spot applications. Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use more water (not more product) when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. All of your dogs should be treated with a product that is specifically labeled for use on dogs for tick control.

You can also help by creating a "tick safe zone" in your yard. You should have an area that is at least 9 ft wide between your yard and any wooded area. Trim back trees to allow as much sunlight as possible into your yard. Keep grass as short. Remove as much leaf litter as possible. A clearly defined, well manicured border between your yard and any wooded areas or weedy lots will reduce the chance of ticks infesting your yard.

  • Asked by Mark from Ft Worth, Tx
    04/25/2012
    Q
I want to use Permethrin with an igr for a flea infestation in my yard using a dial n spray hose end sprayer.
The yard is about 2000 sq feet. Should the setting on the sprayer be set set at 1.6 oz and about how much igr should I use?
    A
How you set your hose end sprayer will depend completely on the brand of sprayer you have. We recommend you read the directions on the hose end sprayer as some require you to pre-dilute the product and other hose end sprayers do not. You should plan to use 1 2/3 oz of Permethrin SFR per gallon of water. You will need to use 1 oz of Martins IGR per gallon of water to cover a 1,500 sq ft area for flea control.
