    Q
What is a good product to spray for ant control in Florida?
I live in Florida, the ant is a very small ant, appears typically after a rain.
    A
Phantom is a great choice for "social" insects such as ants or those insects that congregate together for nesting and feeding. Phantom offers a delayed kill that gives insects time to get back to the nest and infect other insects with the insecticide. Phantom is also a non-repellent insecticide which means that sensitive insects like roaches can not tell that it is there and they readily cross over the treatment area. Phantom is usually used indoors for current infestations as a crack and crevice spray only. Exterior applications are limited to spot and crack and crevice treatments around door frames, window frames, eaves, attic vents, and holes where utilities enter into the structure

    Q
How often should Phantom be applied outdoors to control ants, spiders, etc?
    A
Phantom can be applied every four weeks for ants and spider control. Exterior applications of Phantom are limited to spot and crack and crevice treatments where pests enter around doors, windows, eaves, attic vents and holes in exterior walls where utilities (cables, pipes, wires) enter into the structure.

    Q
Can I put Phantom over top of Onslaught? Will the chemical mixture change/be ineffective together?
Two months ago, I sprayed what was left of the Phantom I had purchased a couple of years ago at a friends house and purchased Onslaught (and a new sprayer) to do my own place. She is wanting me to retreat her place but I don't want to buy a bottle of Onslaught just for her. Can I put Phantom over top of it? Will the chemical mixture change/be ineffective together? Thank you for your help.
    A

We do not recommend treating other properties unless you are licensed or if you are the owner. Phantom has a residual for up to 90 days inside as does Onslaught. You do not want to treat with another product after treating a couple of months ago. Wait another month before treating with either product.

    Q
Does Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide harm plants or trees?
Tell me if this insecticide harm plants . I tried looking for the info on the label but no mention of that
    A
When used as directed on the Phantom product label it should not harm plants.  That being said, exterior applications are limited to spot and crack and crevice treatments around door frames, window frames, eaves, attic vents, and holes where utilities enter into the structure not out in the yard.

    Q
As a preventive measure and after bedbugs are no longer a problem how often should you spray Phantom indoors?
Such as exterminator spraying , bed frames, and around perimeter of room about 6 inches up wall and 6 inches on floor where moldings meet floor?
    A

Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide is only labeled to be applied once a month inside.  There is no fool proof way to prevent bed bugs and chemicals alone would not do so.  We do have a great guide on "How to Prevent Bed Bugs" that can help explain how to prevent future infestations.

    Q
Do I need to use a respirator when using Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide?
    A

Per the product label, when using Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide it is not necessary to use a respirator if you will be using this product in a ventilated area, but if you will be using it in a non-ventilated area you would need to use one. We recommend the Comfo Classic Half-Mask Respirator if it is needed.

    Q
Do I have to use Gentrol IGR if I'm already using Phantom Insecticide?
I've been recently noticing a little bit of a roach problem it isn't horrible but I'd like to catch it before it gets there. I was going to hire an exterminator but someone told me to try Phantom Insecticide because that's what exterminators use I ordered it already only problem is I'm not sure how to use it and reading certain things online has me a little confused. Do I have to mix it with water? Do I need to use Gentrol IGR with the Phantom Insecticide? Or can it be used alone?
    A

Phantom Insecticide is a fantastic product when you need a delayed kill action from an insecticide. It allows the product to transfer from one bug to the next just from touch and grooming/food sharing habits to eliminate the colony at its source. With roaches, an IGR like Gentrolis important no matter what insecticide is being used as you need to stop the current population from being able to continue to grow in number and lay more eggs. When using a delayed kill product like Phantom, its even more crucial to use the IGR as they will have a longer time to live after crossing the insecticide barrier than they would with other insecticides, which means more time to progress in their life cycle and drop egg sacs. Phantom is used at the rate of 3 oz in 1 gallon of water, and you can mix 1 oz of Gentrol IGR Concentrate into the same gallon of solution. Anything you mix up should be used within 24-48 hours at most.

    Q
Is Phantom safe to use as an area floor spray in a warehouse?
I recently purchased Phantom from you but after reading the label I don't know if I should use it. I have a packaged food warehouse on pallets and racks. I am having a terrible time with very tiny bugs that like to climb on you and enter your nose, ears, and crawl in your hair. They can bite very hard if they are in your shoe and you step in them, but most of the time they leave small bites in a line or very tight groups of three or four. They don't look like regular bugs, but look like dust specks. They are white and sometimes black. I've seen rats mites come off a dead rat I trapped and these bugs are not the same. They can move fast for their size. I've tried many pesticides from you after trying 2 pest management companies with no success. I've cold and hot fogged, and tried die and borax. Phantom with IGR is the final try. I move my business next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 60X photos of what I think they are can be sent to you if you like to see them.
    A
Phantom is a crack and crevice spray only and cannot be used as an area spray. It is important that you contact an entomologist to get a proper identification. You can contact your local cooperative extension office and ask to speak to the entomologist on staff. Your local natural history museum may be able to help you with an identification as well. Once you have an identification we can help you select the proper products to help you eliminate the pest.

    Q
I used phantom, 5 or 6 times last year for odorous ants, they are back this spring. What should I use now?
    A
Phantom is a great product for ant control and should do a great job for you. You will need to reapply Phantom every couple of months to keep up the barrier and prevent new ant colonies from invading your home. If you do not want to use Phantom again you can switch to Termidor SC for barrier control. Termidor SC cannot be used indoors unless you are applying it to a wall void but it can be used around the exterior of your home to prevent new ant colonies from forming.

    Q
Will Termidor on the outside and Phantom Ttermiticide/Insectide on the inside take care of my ant problem?
I have tiny black ants in several locations of my house and they are driving me nuts! With this combo knock them out or do I need to use baits also? My wife doesn't like the mess of the baits and also the fact that my 1 yr old son is into everything right now.. The bait stations attract my kid just as much as the ants.
    A

Termidor SC outside and Phantom inside would be a great combo to use and would work like baits.  They both are non repellent and will transfer through the colony from the ones that contact a treated surface.

How long will it take Phantom to be effective on carpenter ants?
I've applied Phantom ll twice in 4 weeks and my Carpenter ants still are active.
    A

Please be patient using a transfer kill like of Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide does take time. It can take at least 3 weeks to start to maintain control of an ant colony. Also, keep in mind for peak effectiveness, only reapply once every 21 days. We have more tips in our Carpenter Ant Treatment Guide here.

    Q
Is there a less expensive Generic brand of Phantom?
I've had great success with Phantom, but I have to use 3 oz per gallon, which gets to be very expensive. Is there anything else with the same active ingredient I could use with similar results?
    A
Unfortunately there is not a generic version of Phantom available because the active ingredient is still under a patent with BASF.  Typically generic products cannot come to market until the patent has expired on a particular active ingredient.

  • Asked by Tabya from Houston, Tx
    01/26/2016
    Q
Will Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide harm a parrot to walk through it once dried?
My parrot walks and roams around on the floor often and does like to play against the crevices and sides of the wall and carpet. She does get her beak in the crevices. If Phantom was put down and allowed to dry with her out of the house a couple of days, could she safely walk through it or possibly get it in her mouth and still be safe? She so will put her foot in her mouth ... Literally! I have had her 30 yrs, but the black crazy ants have invaded our home. I put Termidor in the outside.
    A

Birds are very sensitive to many insecticides, so we would not recommend using something like Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide in any areas where a bird such as a parrot may come into contact with the spray or the residual. You can view more information about potential toxicology of the product on the SDS here. We do recommend consulting your vet before using any insecticides indoors in a home with birds.

There are many newer insecticides containing active ingredients that have almost no toxicity to birds that will still do a great job on ants. Also, baits should be used in bait plate stations that could be placed in areas where pets would not have access to them. Advion Ant Bait Gel contains Indoxacarb, which must be digested by the target pests to take effect, and this is a great choice for ants (including crazy ants) looking for sweets or carbohydrates. For a protein (granule) bait, InTice 10 contains boric acid as the active ingredient, also with far less toxicity to non-target animals. If you prefer a spray, Arilon Insecticide is a non-repellent spray that also contains Indoxacarb.

  • Asked by Ty from Orlando, Fl

    Q
What is the correct dilution rate when using Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide?
I accidentally added 3oz of Phantom to only a 1/2 gallon of water (misread markers on spray container)..Will there be adverse effects?
    A

It depends on what you are using Phantom Termiticide/Insecticide to treat for which application rate you would be using. When treating for termites you would use 1.5 oz per gallon fo water. When treating for bedbugs and other pests you would want to use the 3 oz per gallon of water. If you only used a half gallon of water you would want to use soap and water and clean up as much as possible. There may be some staining with that usage rate as well.

    Q
I have an orange tree that is infested with ants. Is Phantom insecticide safe to use?
    A
Phantom is not labeled to be applied directly to fruit bearing trees.  We would suggest Advance 375A Granular Bait to apply around the base of the tree.  The ants will take this product back to the nest where it can be fed to the queen and eliminate the colony.
