Prime Source Meso 4SC Select contains the same active ingredient as the popular Tenacity Herbicide. Meso 4SC is a unique herbicide formulated for both post and pre-emergence and controls over forty-five broadleaf weed species and grasses in turf grass. This herbicide represses photosynthesis in susceptible and receptive plants as it is absorbed systemically through roots, leaves, and shoots. It can be effectively used against weed invasion and also promotes excellent control of tough-to-control weeds before and during seeding of particular types of turf grasses. This formula can be employed anytime during seeding including over seeding of established turf grass, during renovation, or bare ground seeding. Weeds are expected to die and wither within 3 weeks from the application, turning the weeds white in color due to the loss of chlorophyll. Whitening of the turf grass is common but temporary and typically occurs between 5 to 7 days after application and may last for several works. This product comes in an 8-ounce bottle and 1 gallon jug.
A non-ionic surfactant should be added in post-emergence applications.
A spray indicator dye can be added to see where your spray has been applied.
***Meso 4SC Select is not for use on Bermudagrass when actively growing or St. Augustine home lawns***

Pre-Emergence Applications: Apply 4 to 8 fluid ounces per acre in at least 30 gallons of water per acre before seeds germinate or as close to seed germination as possible. Combine this product with another pre-emergence herbicide for extended control of crabgrass and foxtail.
Pre-Emergence Application Precautions: It is most effective on established turf when applied post-emergence unless it is combined with another soil active herbicide.
Pre-Emergence Application Restrictions: Do not exceed 5 fluid ounces per acre per application to perennial ryegrass, fine fescues, or mixed stands that consist of greater than 50% perennial ryegrass and/or fine fescue. For St. Augustinegrass sods, do not exceed 4 fluid ounces per acre.
Application to New Seedings and New Lawns: Apply 5 to 8 fluid ounces per acre in at least 30 gallons of water per acre before seeding or after seeding of tolerance turfgrass species listed below, except fine fescue, as an application to fine fescue can reduce grass density. It can be effectively used on grass seed blends that contain less than 20% by weight hard/fine fescue. For optimal control, apply at grass seeding or as close to seeding as possible.
New Seedings and New Lawns Restrictions: Do not spray on newly germinated turfgrass. Delay treatment until the grass has been mowed 2 to 4 times and/or 4 weeks after emergence (whichever is longer).
Post-Emergence Applications: Apply 4 to 8 fluid ounces per acre in at least 30 gallons of water per acre with a non-ionic surfactant. Make a repeat application 2 to 3 weeks later for optimal weed control. Apply to young, actively growing weeds.
Post-Emergence Application Precautions: Moisture stress and application to mature weeds can reduce herbicide efficacy.
Bentgrass/Nimbleweed Treatment: Apply 5 fl. oz. Meso 4 SC Select peracre in at least 30 gallons of water per acre combined with a NIS surfactant at 2-3 weeks interval for a maximum of 3 applications. For optimal weed control, apply in late summer/early fall just prior to new growth.
St. Augustinegrass (Sod uses only) and Centipedegrass Treatment: Apply to established turf only.
St. Augustinegrass (Sod uses only) and Centipedegrass Restrictions:
Do not exceed 4 fl. oz. Meso 4 SC Select if tank mixing with Atrazine or Simazine. Do not exceed 0.5 lb. atrazine or simazine active ingredient. See atrazine.simazine labels for precautions and restrictions.
Dormant Bermudagrass Application only: Apply 5 fl. oz. per acre of Meso 4 SC Select to control winter weeds listed in the Weeds Controlled table below. Make a repeat application 2-3 weeks later. Application of Meso 4 SC Select to semi-dormant turf will cause bermudagrass whitening.
Spot Applications of this product
Spray Mix | Application Rate | Rate of this product |
Rate of NIS adjuvant |
2 gallons | 1 gallon per 1,000 sq. ft. | 1 teaspoon | 3 teaspoons |
Spot Application Restrictions: Do not apply more than 16 oz. of Meso 4 SC Select per acre year or per crop (equivalent to 0.5 lb. mesotrione per acre per year), whichever is shorter.
WEEDS CONTROLLED USING PRE-EMERGENCE APPLICATION
Apply Meso 4 SC Select with a grass pre-emergence herbicide such as Barricade 65WG Herbicide, except when used to control weeds in new seedings. Meso 4 SC Select will wontrol the following weeds using preemergence application:
WEEDS CONTROLLED USING POST-EMERGENCE APPLICATION
Make a second application of Meso 4 SC Select 2-3 weeks after initial treatment. For optimal control add a NIS type surfactant and apply to young, activately growing weeds. Meso 4 SC Select will control the following weeds using post-emergence application:
Worked just like Tenacity, and I've used both
By Bill on 09/13/2019
I used genuine Tenacity 2 years ago and I got the same great results with this product. Here are a few tips: My target weeds were bentgrass and green kyllinga in a tall fescue lawn in New Jersey. Meso was applied by a 15 gallon tow behind Fimco sprayer. The first application was the last week of August and this was broadcast over the whole lawn because the weeds were so widespread. The 2nd application was 2 weeks later, and this was spot sprayed because now I could see where the weeds were. A 2nd application is necessary for bentgrass. Both applications were 3 days after a mow, and I bagged my clippings so the product would not be wasted on detached foliage. I didn't mow again for 4 days after the applications, to give it time to be absorbed. In total, I used 5 ounces of Meso and 15 ounces of Surfactant (1:3 ratio product to surfactant) in 30 gallons of water over .75 acres on the first application. The 2nd application was in 5 gallons of water, same dilution rate. You can count on your lawn will looking bad for a few weeks but this is a fall renovation and I know it will look good in a few more weeks. It's not as expensive as it sounds because it is highly concentrated, but make sure it's diluted in enough water to get coverage. When you consider how much grass seed you would need to repair desired grass in the areas you'd kill with glyphosate, and you'll see the value. This product really did kill my targeted weeds. Hope this helps. Here are a few pictures if allowed: https://imgur.com/a/bIcp1sP

Same Results as Tenacity

Works Marvelously
By Laura on 09/06/2019
I used a surfactant, blue dye, and this generic tenacity on my post-emergent crabgrass, clover, nutsedge, dandelions, creeping charlie, and other random weeds. Within 2 weeks the weeds were white and curled up and the clover was curling and disappearing. It works so much faster and better than the residential dry stuff I was using before. I plan to buy as a part of my program for maintaining my lawn.

Bentgrass murderer
By Joe on 06/07/2019
Have bentgrass in your KBG? This is the stuff you want. Does a good job at turning white (phytotoxicity) and then killing it (necrotic). It took a couple apps to get all of the plants/clumps. The meso works on the leaves it touches.

The label mentions acres and a 30 gallon tank.
You can apply Prime Source Meso 4SC at 5-8 oz per Acre for pre-emergent control, which breaks down to 0.11 – 0.18 oz, or 2/3 tsp to 1 tsp per 1000 sq ft. Be sure that you check the more detailed rates on the product label for your specific turfgrass since some grasses require the lower application rates. Usually you will use about 1 gallon of water per 1000 sq ft with a backpack sprayer but be sure you water-in your pre-emergent application after it is made.
