How Much ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Concentrate Do I Need to Treat My Home?

The yield will vary with the mix rate you choose, but to help you estimate your product needs, see the examples below:

  • 3/4 gallon (96 oz.) of insecticide concentrate yields 96-192 gallons of finished solution.

  • 1 gallon (128 oz.) of insecticide concentrate yields 128-256 gallons of finished solution or covers 128,000 to 256,000 square feet using a broadcast application.

Application rates vary based on where and what you are treating, but below are some recommended mixing rates based on common uses for ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide spray:

  • 0.33 oz. per gallon of water (0.02% dilution) - for preventative applications, or for treating mild infestations

  • 0.5 oz. per gallon of water (0.031% dilution) - for general indoor and outdoor use
  • 1.0 oz. per gallon of water (0.06% dilution) – for severe infestations; this mix rate allows less frequent treatments that provide a longer residual effect and a quicker immediate knockdown

Always consult the product label for mix rates for specific applications and treatments.

How Do I Apply a Preventative Perimeter Treatment to the Outside of My Home?

ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Concentrate is an excellent choice for preventative barrier treatments around the perimeter of homes and buildings.  It can provide residual control for a variety of common structural pests including ants, crickets, cockroaches, scorpions, spiders, and more.

For perimeter pest control treatments, start by mixing 0.33 fl oz to 1.0 fl oz per gallon of water to treat 1,000 square feet. Use the higher rate (1.0 fl oz per gallon of water) for a quicker pest knockdown and longer residual control.

Spray the ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide mixture to the foundation of the building, spraying up 2 to 3 feet and spraying out from the foundation into the surrounding soil and vegetation 6 to 10 feet.

Apply the spray to the outside surfaces of buildings including window frames, door frames, where pipes, wires, and cables enter the home, around vents and soffits, and along areas where pests have been spotted.

Do not spray any vertical surfaces that are above non-porous horizonal surfaces (for example concrete driveways or sidewalks) that are not protected from rainfall or from sprinklers.

How Do I Control Mosquitoes with ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide?

For residual mosquito control, apply ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Concentrate at a rate of 1.0 fl oz per gallon of water.

Apply one gallon of finished solution per 1,000 sq feet as a general spray to outside surfaces of buildings including siding, foundations, porches, window frames, eaves, patios, garages, refuse, lawns in grass areas around the home, along fence lines, trunks of woody ornamentals, trees, shrubs, ground covers, bedding plants, foliage plants, flowers, and other areas where mosquitoes are found.  The 1.0 fl oz rate will provide a quicker knockdown and longer residual control.

Retreatment may be necessary to maintain control during heavy mosquito pressure periods, or if you see signs of renewed mosquito activity.  At the high rate (1.0 fl oz) reapply every four weeks.  At the low use rate (0.33 fl oz) repeat applications can be made every seven days.  Apply with hand-held or backpack sprayers or mist blowers.

Its best to apply during the early morning or late evening and night hours, when its cooler and mosquitoes are more active for best results.

This will control mosquitoes that may transmit malaria and arboviruses like West Nile fever, dengue fever, Eastern equine encephalitis, and St. Louis encephalitis.

See our guide on how to get rid of mosquitoes for more information on treating for and preventing mosquitoes around your home.

How Do I Use ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide in My Lawn?

ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Concentrate is a great broadcast lawn treatment.  You can apply ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide in your lawn to treat over 25 types of lawn and  pests including armyworms, cutworms, and sod webworms, ants, ticks, fleas, chinch bugs, millipedes and more.

To use ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide as a broadcast treatment, you’ll mix the needed amount of ProCare Bifen 7.9 Concentrate and apply with up to 10 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet.  This will ensure you get enough coverage in the dense grass coverage of lawns.  You can also apply as a low-volume application with less than 2 gallons per 1,000 square feet followed immediately by watering the area with at least 0.25 inches of water to ensure the treatment is able to reach below the surface to the pests.

Refer to the chart on the product label for the full application rates but in general for lawn pests, use 0.18 fl oz to 1.0 fl oz per 1,000 square feet in lawn broadcast applications.

How Do I Use ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Inside My Home?

Procare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Concentrate can be used indoors to treat a variety of pests in your home.  To treat for specific pests, consult the product label for use rates and application instructions.

Before treating, you should cover any utensils and any countertops or other food processing surfaces.  Any food should be covered or removed from the treatment area.

Mix 0.33 fl oz to 1.0 fl oz of ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide with 1 gallon of water.  Apply as a crack and crevice treatment, pinstream, spot or low pressure spray to areas where pests hide including around baseboards, in closets, around waterpipes, doors, windows, in attics behind and under appliances including refrigerators, stoves, and dishwashers, in and around cabinets and drawers, and under sinks.  Do not apply as a broadcast or space spray.

Can ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Concentrate be used around pets (cats and dogs)?

ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Concentrate can be used to treat areas where cats and dogs frequent to treat for fleas, such as under bedding, next to rugs, next to furniture.  Before spraying, pets and people (including children) should be removed from the area, and the spray should be allowed to dry before allowing re-entry or surface contact.  Always wear the appropriate personal protection equipment (long sleeves, long pants, gloves, and close toe shoes) when applying, and always read the product label before applying any product.

What is the shelf life of ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide Concentrate?

Q
If the Pro-Care cost the same as regular Bifen IT, but made from a different co., what is the advantage?

It should be cheaper

A

ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide & Bifen IT are both 7.9% bifenthrin products. There really isn't an advantage on one over the other, aside that Bifen comes in more variety of sizes. Unfortunately we cannot speak on how manufacturers come up with their prices

Q
Your short list on ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide includes fleas, but fleas are NOT listed in the alphabet listed long list. Why is this so?

I have found that spraying Termador (termite treatment) was the only real way to get rid of fleas inside my workshop, where I had rescued some stray cats. Nothing else (much $ money) worked

A
ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide is labeled for fleas as directed on the product label for both inside (bare minimum areas like cracks and crevices, along baseboards etc not as a broadcast) and outside.

Termidor SC is not intended for use for flea treatment at all and is not recommended for them.  We would recommend Onslaught Insecticide and Archer IGR combo for flea control for both inside and outside areas.

Is ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide safe for pets?

And how many gallons does 96 ounces make?

A

ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide is safe for pets once dry, just keep them out of the area while applying, typically 1 hour inside and 4-6 hours outside. The ¾ gallon can make 96-192 gallons of finished solution depending on the rate used based on the target pest.  Complete instructions on the product label.
