    Q
Can Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) be used on succulents for weed control? I am transition from tall fescue to Ruschia Nana, a succulent ground cover.
    A

Prior to planting Ruschia Nana, it is recommended that all weeds be removed by hand or killed with a non-selective herbicide such as Roundup QuickPro no sooner than 2 weeks before planting Ruschia Nana. If applying a pre emergent such as Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) to prevent weeds from germinating, this should be done months prior to planting as pre emergent residuals generally stay in the soil 3-4 months.
If Ruschia Nana has already begun to establishweed control may be done by hand removal or with a hoe or cultivator. Herbicides are generally not recommended as this could also injure the groundcover however Roundup QuickPro can be used and then replug the bare spots after 2 weeks. Removal of weeds when they are small is key and not allowing the weeds to flower which is followed by seeds and will create more weeds weeks later on.

Contact your County Cooperative Extension Office for specific recommendations for your region on any selective herbicides and timing of application information.

    Q
How much Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) would I need to treat 80, 000 square feet of bermuda sod for control of crabgrass and nutsedge? I am using a 25 gallon sprayer on the back of an ATV.
I'm in southern Alabama and the application I did in spring but still had alot of crabgrass and nutsedge throughout summer.
    A

For Bermudagrass, Prodiamine 65 WDG is applied 1.0 to 2.30 lbs per acre in no less than 20 gallons of water per acre (0.36 to 0.83 oz with 0.5 gallons of water per 1000 sq ft). If treating 80,000 sq feet (1.8 acres), you will use 1.8 lbs (28.8 oz) to 4.15 lbs (66.4 oz) in a minimum of 40 gallons of water (2 fills of the 25 gallon sprayer). Prodiamine 65 WDG can be applied in a single application or sequential applications for year round weed control as long as you do not exceed 2.3lbs per acre per year. For best results, the prodcut label recommends that the application be watered in with 0.5 inches of rainfall or irrigation within 14 days of the intiial application to help reach the weeds in the soil and pevent germination.

Timing is key when it comes to pre emergent applications. In early spring, pre emergents need to be applied when soil temps are just below 55 degrees as once soil temperatures reach 55 degrees, this is prime conditions for crabgrass to germinate. Refer to the Crabgrass Seed Germination Map on page 8 of the Prodiamine 65 WDG product label for general timing in your region or we recommend contacting the Master Gardener with your County Exension Office for exact timing recommendations in your area.

    Q
Can a 14 gallon tank sprayer be used to apply Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) to one acre at the rate of 0.55 oz per 1000 sq ft?
    A

Yes, Prodiamine 65 WDG may be used in a tank sprayer as long as you are following the instructions on the product label. Water is acting as the carrier therefore you will need to determine how many square feet the 14 gallon tank will cover of the 1 acre you are treating.

For example, if your 14 galllon tank sprayer covers 14,000 sq ft, you will use 7.7 oz of Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) per 14 gallons of water to cover 14k sq ft.

    Q
Does Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) prevent the spreading of zoysiagrass?
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) can injure desirable seedlings if applied before the secondary roots of seedings are in the 2nd inch of soil (not that plus soil). Q
Will Prodiamine 65 WDG control Creeping Charlie seeds? Stolens?
The label states it is effective against Creeping Charlie, but also states it will not harm stolens of desirable grasses and ornamentals in their dormant state. Creeping Charlie spreads BOTH by seeds and resprouts from tap roots of plants gone dormant. Correct me if I am wrong - This product WILL ONLY prevent the seeds from germinating, and only for the season (time frame) indicated on the label. The seeds of most weeds are viable MUCH longer than one season.
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is not labeled for pre emergent control of creeping charlie (ground ivy).

Unfortunately, currently there are not any pre-emergents on the market for Creeping Charlie. Control can be achieved by spot treating with a selective herbicide labeled for use in your turfgrass type.

Please view our Creeping Charlie Treatment Guide for more information.

    Q
Can Prodiamine 65 WDG be sprayed directly over ornamental plants in landscape beds such as Juniper? I know it's tolerant
I want to spray right over top of Juniper
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG is safe when used as directed around ornamental plantings.  It is only a pre-emergent, used to prevent weeds emerging.  It will not kill anything that is actively growing. It should not be applied over the top of newly planted ornamental plants but should be fine for established plants. Per the product label, should be safe around your junipers. Please refer to the product label for use rates and complete application instructions.
