Bentgrass is not listed as a tolerant species on the label for Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade). The label actually advices not to apply where bentgrass is a desirable species. There is no exact rate to achieve exactly 5 months of pre-emergent control with Prodiamine 65 WDG. At the minimum use rate, depending on your turf type, you could get approximately 4 months of control.
While the Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) and Triplet SF should have no tank mixing compatibility issues (you should do a jar mix test first to be sure) you would normally not apply these products at the same time. Prodiamine needs to be watered in after application as you are trying to get the ingredient to the soil and create a wall-like barrier to prevent weed seeds from emerging. With a post emergent like Triple SF, you do not want rain or irrigation for at least 24 hours after an application, and you use less water volume during a post emergent treatment than you would a pre emergent application, as you do not want it to wash from the leaf surface but rather stay on the plant where you applied it to be asborbed. To not over stress the lawn it is often advised to wait 2-3 days or up to a week between treatments.
Per the Prodiamine 65 WDG product label: To reduce the potential to injure overseeded turf, wait 60 days after seeding or until after the second mowing, whichever is longer, before applying Quali-Pro Prodiamine 65 WDG.
When to Overseed After Application (All States)* Quali-Pro Prodiamine 65 WDG will inhibit the development of turfgrass species overseeded too soon after application. Follow rates and intervals in the table below for best overseeding/reseeding results.
When used at the lowest rates, it starts at 4 months after application that you can overseed.
Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) will not be effective as a ground sterilant. Prodiamine will last in the soil for 3-5 months and will not kill listed turfgrasses. Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is labeled to help control Yellow Woodsorrel (from seed), and it is not labeled to be used around dymondia. Yes, Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) can be tank mixed with other pesticides as long as you follow the most restrictive instructions out of the two products you wil be tank mixing.
According to the product label of Prodiamine 65 WDG, as long as you are following the most restrictive instructions of the products you choose. "When using Prodiamine 65WDG in a tank mixture with other pesticides, observe the most restrictive label limitations and precautions on the labels of the products used. Before tank mixing with other pesticides not named on this label, compatibility must be tested." See the COMPATIBILITY TEST section on page 6 of the product label. Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is only a pre-emergent that prevents weeds from germinating, it would not kill established weeds. Please view our How to Get Rid of Poa Annua Treatment Guide for more information.
Pre-emergents are best applied typically when soil temperatures reach 55 degrees however the application timing of Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) will vary according to the exact weeds you are targeting and your specific region. We recommend contacting your local extension office to confirm the right application timing for your area. We do have a Lawn Care Schedule on our site with general time frames that may also be helpful.
Yes, the product label recommends to use Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) with a handpump or backpack sprayer. We would recommend using a mist stream. You would calibrate by determining the volume of water required to treat 1,000 square feet. Use this calibration volume to determine the amount of water and Prodiamine 65 WDG herbicide needed to treat the target area (see the following calibration example).
Note: Sprayer calibration (volume of spray needed to treat 1,000 square feet) will vary with each individual operator.
Steps in Calibration:
1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet or 25 by 40 feet).
2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water noting the final level of water in the spray tank.
3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage. Refill the sprayer to the same level as before measuring the amount of water added. The measured water added to the sprayer is the volume needed to cover 1,000 square feet.
4. Determine the application rate (fl. oz./1,000 sq. ft.) for Prodiamine 65 WDG from the Recommendations section of this label.
5. To each volume of water used as measured in step 3, add the amount of Prodiamine 65 WDG as determined in step 4.
Example: If the sprayer uses 2 gallons of water to cover 1,000 square feet and the desired application rate of Prodiamine 65 WDG is 0.185 - 0.055 oz/1,000 square feet, then you would add 0.185 - 0.055 oz of Prodiamine 65 WDG to every 2 gallons of water to be used."
Prodiamine 65 WDG is an effective pre-emergent herbicide for pre-emergent grass and broadleaf weed control. This product will not act as a post-emergent. Timing is very important when applying pre emergent products are you want to be sure to apply before the weeds germinate. For the best timing on when to apply a pre-emergent in your specific region, we would recommend contacting your Master Gardener at your local cooperative extension office.
You may spot treat actively growing weeds with a post-emergent product. In order to make a proper recommendation, we would need some more information.
1. Which specific weeds are you targeting?
2. What type of grass do you have?
3. How much area will you be treating?
For the best timing on when to apply Prodiamine 65 WDG, we would recommend contacting your Master Gardener at your local cooperative extension office as they will have information for your specific region. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions before use.
Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) can be used in a smaller tank sprayer that does not have an agitator as long as you agitate the solution while filling the sprayer and occasionally while spraying. If spraying is interrupted, then be sure to agitate the mixture well before beginning to spray again.
Prodiamine 65 WDG is only a pre-emergent product and will only stop seeds from germinating, it does not have any post emergent abilities to kill actively growing weeds.
When Prodiamine 65WDG is applied as split application, it provides pre emergent control against listed weed for a longer period of time control as opposed to a single application. Fall pre emergent applications should be applied when soil temperatures get to 70 degrees and continue to drop. Spring pre emergent applications and especially for crabgrass control should be made when soil temps reach right around 50-55 degrees.
Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is a pre-emergent herbicide that typically lasts for 2-5 months in the soil, depending on the rate applied and how much rainfall the area receives. Pre emergents work best when soil temps are close to 70 degrees in the fall and 55 degrees in the spring.
If you are using a pre-emergent like this in an area with gravel or rocks, then it is important to use a higher volume of water when you are applying the product and immediately after the application so that the active ingredient is carried into the soil and does not just get absorbed on the rocks as it's sprayed. This product is safe for pets when used as directed and after the application area is completely dry.
To kill actively growing weeds and prevent weeds from germinating Hi Yield Extended Control is labeled for areas such as gravel, driveways, sidewalks, walkways, patios, etc and will provide weed control for 3-6 months. Hi Yield 365 will kill and prevent weeds for up to 1 year (some weeds may require a second application).
Please keep in mind that thick ground covering will make any application of a pre-emergent difficult, so if you have heavy cover, then you may consider removing the rock and adding an additional barrier such as weed fabric before replacing the rock.
No, Prodiamine 65 WDG will inhibit the development of turfgrass species overseeded too soon after application. It will depend upon the rate of product used as to how many months you need to wait before reseeding. At the minimum use rate, you need to wait 4 months up to 8 months before reseeding. Please refer to the product label for complete instructions on reseeding.
