Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide is a selective post-emergent herbicide designed to control a wide variety of tough broadleaf weeds in residential and commercial turfgrass, including chickweed, plantain, clover, and dandelion.
Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide is designed to control a wide range of common broadleaf weeds in lawns, including:
It is ideal for use on established cool-season and warm-season turfgrass areas when weeds are actively growing.
Maximum control of weeds in cool-season and warm-season turf-grasses will be obtained from spring or early fall applications when weeds are actively growing. Do Not use on carpetgrass, dichondra, nor lawns or turf where desirable clovers are present.
Do Not broadcast apply when air temperatures exceed 85°F. Some injury may be expected with spot treatments when air temperatures exceed 85°F. Seed can be sown 3 to 4 weeks after application.
Do Not use on or near desirable plants, including contact of spray on exposed root systems or shoots within the drip line of desirable trees and shrubs, since injury may result.
Yes, Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide can be used on established cool-season grasses, including tall fescue and creeping fescue. It is commonly used to control broadleaf weeds such as plantain and chickweed in fescue lawns.
Always follow labeled application rates and avoid applications during periods of heat or drought stress to help protect desirable turfgrass.
The standard mix rate for Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide is 0.75 to 1.5 fl. oz. per 0.5 to 6 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft., depending on the weeds being treated and the turfgrass type. For cool-season lawns such as tall fescue and creeping fescue, a common application rate is 1.2 to 1.5 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. for broadleaf weed control.
Always apply enough water to achieve uniform coverage across the treatment area without excessive runoff.
The amount of Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide per gallon of water depends on how much water your sprayer uses to cover 1,000 sq. ft. Since sprayers vary, it is important to calibrate your equipment before mixing.
For example, if your sprayer uses 2 gallons of water to treat 1,000 sq. ft., you would mix:
This ensures you are applying the correct amount of herbicide per area rather than per gallon alone.
A surfactant is not required when applying Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide, but adding a non-ionic surfactant may improve coverage and help the herbicide adhere to weed foliage more effectively.
Using a surfactant can be especially helpful when treating mature, waxy, or hard-to-control broadleaf weeds.
Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide is typically rainfast within 4 to 6 hours after application. However, for best results, apply when no rainfall is expected for at least 24 hours.
Allowing the product additional drying time helps maximize weed absorption and overall effectiveness.
For best results, apply Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide when weeds are actively growing and temperatures are between 65°F and 85°F.
Avoid applications during extremely hot temperatures or when turfgrass is under stress, as this may increase the risk of turf injury and reduce weed control performance.
To properly calibrate your sprayer:
Calibrating your sprayer helps ensure accurate herbicide applications and consistent weed control results across your lawn.

So far so good
By Joe on 04/19/2015
I used 3.5 oz per gallon in a 2 gallon pump sprayer. It rained within 24 hours of application and I used no surfactant. To my surprise most of the weeds were dead and gone within 2 weeks. There were a couple weeds along the fenceline that I may have missed or from the rain. All in all I'm very pleased and will use again. Also, price is half as much as my local nursery!

Amazing product
By Michael on 06/11/2016
I have been fighting the Creeping Charlie for years with products from the big Home stores, without success. Gordons Trimec Classic wiped out 95 percent of weeds with one application this spring. I was so impressed, I had to leave this review.

Clover killer
By Jase on 01/17/2017
I'm a homeowner with no experience in pesticides. Grasses and clover popped up in the mulched yard after recent rain in SoCal. My first treatment was with RoundUp and it was ineffective. My landscaper buddy recommended this product to kill the clover....and it worked. Within 12 hours the clover was starting to wilt and by 48 hours it was dead. Cons: The dosage instructions. I'm a city boy that moved out of the city to the burbs. The directions call for ounces per sprayed acreage, something I wasn't familiar with. Perhaps they could say "2 ounces per gallon" is effective or something along those lines. My application was very potent and effective, but next time I'll go lighter on the herbicide. This stuff isn't good for the ground water and eventually runs into rivers and oceans.

Creeping Charlie Beware
By David on 09/25/2015
Was told about trimec Classic by a friend's dad. He showed me his son's treated lawn and I was amazed! Creeping Charlie and many other broad leafs took it on the chin in this matchup! My results were equally as good so far. I may throw a booster application on in the spring time to completely win the war!!

Mix of creeping fescue and tall fescue. I have a lot of plantin, chickweed, and other pre-emergents that I need spray.
Per the Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide product label for broadleaf weed control on cool season grass you would use 1.2 to 1.5 oz. per 0.5 to 6 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft.
Steps in Calibration:
1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet, or 25 by 40 feet).
2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water noting the final level of water in thespray tank.
3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage. Refill the sprayer to the same level as before measuring the amount of water added. The measured water added to the sprayer is the volume needed to cover 1,000 square feet.
4. Determine the application rate (fl oz/1000 sq ft) for the product from the “General Application” section of the label.
5. To each volume of water used, as measured in step 3, add the amount of product determined in step 4.
Example:
If the sprayer used 2 gallons of water to cover 1,000 square feet and the desired application rate of product 1.5 fluid oz/1,000 square feet, then you would add 1.5 fluid ounces to every 2 gallons of water to be used.

Our gardener used this spray on our grass today. From what I read it looks toxic for dogs. Is that the case? If so, how long until it's safe for them to go back on the grass?
Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide is pet safe if used as directed. Pets and people must be kept away from the area being treated while the product is being applied and until everything is fully dry.
