    fastrac and bait staitons

    The bait stations work - I have used them for years. Now i just tie them down so i don't lose them and have to buy them anymore. I snap a cord through the lid befor I close it and tie it to something. If you are on concrete put a nail. The bait I am not 100% sure about compared to say Contrac - maybe no difference. some boxes were fully eatan and smelled like urine so thats good. Others looked partially eatan but I am not sure if it was by mice or insects I find on the blocks. This is the same for all the blocks. So far it seems to work. Try it. Anyone know how to keep the rolly polly insects and grubs out?

How often should you replace the bait in these stations with fresh bait?

How often the bait should be replaced depends on how much mouse activity there is around.  You should check the Protecta RTU stations daily to start with to see if they are eating all of the bait in a day.  The key to control is to keep enough bait in the station to supply the population around the structure.  The goal is to not have it be empty when mice go inside to look for food.  You may find that you have to replace the bait daily at first but after the population dwindles you will have to add bait much less frequently (1 timer per week or even 1 x per month). Bait should also be replaced if it is insect infested or moldy.

How does the Protecta RTU Mouse Bait Station work?

Is it a trap where the mice cannot escape? Do they eat the bait and die inside for easy cleanup?

The Protecta RTU Mouse Bait Station is a tamper resistant container that will keep non-target animals from consuming the poison bait. The Protecta RTU does not trap the mouse in any way, the mouse enters, eats the bait and is free to exit. If you would like a covered box that the mouse enters and cannot leave, you do have a couple of options. You can use the Victor Kill and Seal Mouse Trap Model 265. This is a small container that the mouse will enter, be killed and contained. The other option would be to purchase a Protecta Mouse Bait Station and place a wooden snap trap or a Mini-T Rex snap trap inside. With either of these options you would not need to use a poison bait as the mouse will be killed anyway. You can bait the traps with peanut butter (not recommended for the Mini-T Rex), pieces of cereal, bits of cotton or other baits.

Is this safe for children and pets?

My exterminator used this particular product last year and said it was safe to use with pets and children, but you literature indicates otherwise. I live in a very old house and was surprised to see a small mouse jet across my living room, it's not even cold outside. What do you recommend? Are the traps interchangeable? Can I use the same traps I have from last year and just purchase a few more if I can't buy the kit that is safe.

The Protecta RTU Mouse Bait Stations are tamper resistant and lock when closed. They are safe for use around pets and children, but bait should always be kept out of reach of children and pets.
This kit would be excellent for your mouse problem. The stations are also reusable, so you can use the same ones that you had from last year. You can refill them with bait as needed. Does the Protecta RTU work well for mice?

I have domestic pet rats, since I run a pet rat rescue from my home. But I have mice.

The mice are not pets and never will be! They were here when we bought our home and we did not know it. I notice the mice stay out of the rooms that have the rat cages, but they are driving me nuts by destroying our food! I bought a large box of mouse traps from you today, and want to know what tips you have for being successful with them? We have only caught two mice so far using snap traps we bought locally.
