Product Overview

This is the popular Talpirid Mole Bait.  We also sell the Talpirid Mole TRAP.

Talpirid Mole Bait is one of the most effective mole control products available today. It is the first and only mole bait designed, developed and scientifically proven to kill moles. One Talprid Mole Bait worm contains a lethal dose and can kill in 24 hours. One box of Talpirid contains 20 worms, enough for two typical treatments (sufficient bait to kill several moles).

It is HIGHLY recommended that you use disposable gloves to handle and place the Talpirid worms so you do not contaminate them with your scent or other contaminants on gloves that you may already have.

Once ordered, please follow your shipment tracking closely and retrieve your package as soon as possible.  Talpirid Mole Bait can melt when left for extended periods of time in warm/hot temperatures.

Details

TALPIRID, (Talprid) developed by Bell Laboratories, Inc., is the first and only mole bait designed, developed and scientifically proven to kill moles.

Talpirid is Proven Effective

Talpirid's active ingredient capitalizes on a mole's physiology. In both field and laboratory tests, Talpirid achieved outstanding acceptance and control. One Talpirid mole bait worm contains a lethal dose and can kill in 24 hours.

Talpirid mole bait mimics a Mole's Natural Food Source

Talpirid's size, shape and feel let moles consume the bait in the same manner as its primary food source, the earthworm. Special enhancers in Talpirid ensure immediate attraction and excellent product acceptance.

Talpirid is Ready-To-Use

TALPIRID mole bait comes in a convenient tray of 10 worms which release freely from the tray, ready for immediate placement. The Talpirid worm trays are individually sealed in a bag for ultimate freshness and maximum shelf life.

SELECTION OF TREATMENT AREAS:

The presence of moles may be indicated by a network of subsurface runways in the turf or by a series of conical mounds of earth pushed up from deep burrows. Subsurface runways are indicated by raised ridges of vegetation and soil caused by moles foraging for food just below the soil surface. These runways are especially noticeable when the grass above them turns yellow. Conical mounds may be indicative of the location of deeper main underground runways.

APPLICATION DIRECTIONS

Subsurface Runways:

TALPIRID has been specially designed to mimic the natural food sources of the mole. To achieve maximum effect, TALPIRID should only be placed in areas used habitually by moles for feeding.

Establishing Initial Activity:

Use your finger, small wooden dowel or a narrow rod to puncture a hole in the top of subsurface runways. Be careful not to crush runways. Mark opened runways and revisit them 48 to 72 hours later. Runways that have had holes resealed within 72 hours should be baited.

Baiting Active Runways:

Make a hole in the top of the runway with a rod lightly larger than the diameter of the bait. Drop one worm into the runway, using the rod to push any exposed bait completely into the runway. Carefully reseal the runway with a small amount of dirt to exclude light. Repeat bait application every 5 to 10 feet of each active subsurface runway.

Determining Baiting Results:

Five (5) to 7 days after bait application, check for mole activity using the same procedure for determining initial activity. Return 48 to 72 hours later and retreat all active runs.

If Talpirid doesn't seem to work:

Here are five things to consider.

  1. Are you using gloves when applying the bait?   Disposable rubber or Nitrile gloves are best. Not using gloves may contaminate the bait with a human scent.
  2. Are you applying product before or after a heavy rain?   Rain and humidity can break down the bait faster than normal conditions.
  3. Is a chemical insecticide or fertilizer being applied to the lawn?   Chemicals that are applied before or after (within a few days) of applying talpirid can affect the bait by contamination. Hence, the chemical gets on the bait by seeping through the tunnels.
  4. Are you following the three step process that the package instructions/brochure indicate?
  5. Are you baiting properly once you find the main active run?   If you bait without ever doing a test to find the active tunnel(s), than the bait may never be encountered and eaten by moles.  You can test for an active tunnel by following the steps outlined on the package instructions.

Sort Questions
Q
Is Talpirid safe for pets?

I have cats which love to catch moles.

A

Talpirid Mole Bait, when used directed on the product label, will be applied to areas that will for the most part be inaccessible to non-target animals. In most cases, moles that consume the bait will die under ground in their tunnels eliminating the worry that cats or other predatory animals will eat the carcass. Most well fed pets such as cats do not consume dead animals that they find, instead they tend to "play" with it. An animal the size of a cat would have to consume many dead moles for there to be any concern of secondary poisoning.

Q
What is the shelf life of Talpirid Mole Bait?
A

Talpirid Mole Bait has a shelf life of two years if unopened and has not been exposed to extreme temperatures. Once the package is open, the Talpirid Mole Bait has a shelf life of 30-60 days. Once the bait has been applied in the ground, it biodegrades in 10-14 days.

Q
What is the best season to treat for moles using Talpirid?

Now that we are closing on on fall, is it worth the expense to try to rid my yard now or better to wait till spring?

A
Moles do not hibernate during the winter and you may find a lot of damage to your yard if you put off eliminating them now while they are still active. We recommend getting rid of moles whenever you see activity on your property.

Q
How many worms per tunnel; or sq ft, etc., is applied? I don't

I have no idea of how many worms to order.

A
You will need to bait every 5 to 10 feet of each active subsurface runway. With Mole bait the amount of tunnels will be what determines how much bait you will require. Most folks need about 10-20 worms per treatment depending on the number of tunnels/moles present. Each box of Talprid comes with 20 worms.

Q
Is use of bromethalin safe to use for gopher/mole control near or in a vegetable garden

Is it carcinogenic? What is it's half life? Is it taken up into the plant, will it contaminate the soil and food from garden?

A
Bromethalin is the active ingredient in many rodent control products. Without knowing the specific product you are requesting information on we can only give you general answers. Bromethalin does not move through the soil and is not taken up systemically into plants. Bromethalin products cannot be used in a vegetable garden but instead should be used around the outside perimeter of the garden for mole/gopher control. Talpirid is the only Bromethalin product that we carry that is labeled for mole control and it will only last for about 14 days when used as directed on the product label.
