  • Asked by April from New Jersey

    Q
How long before you will star seeing results with Rat X?
    A
The kill time for Rat X can take anywhere between 5-7 days. The mice and rats will eat the bait like a food source and Rat X will cause dehydration. Mice and rats have stomach sensors that tells them when they are thirsty. When they eat this bait, it turns off their stomach sensors and it can no longer tell their brain to drink water. They have no desire for drinking water so they will just go back to their burrow, and begin the cycle - dehydration, failing kidneys, coma and then death.

  • Asked by Norm from Seattle, Wa

    Q
Will Rat X kill other rodents (non target species) such as squirrels, prairie dogs, ground squirrels, beavers, etc?
I am not finding any clear answers whether this product will kill rodents other than rats and mice. For example, some squirrels are protected where I live, and I don't want to inadvertently kill them. As far as I know, all rodents share the same digestive system, not exclusive to rats and mice.
    A

Rat X is only labeled to eradicate mice and rats. However, it is possible that the product will harm those that are also in the rodent family such as chipmunks, squirrels, etc.

    Q
Would they be harmed if captive birds of prey outside ate a rat/mouse that was poisoned by Rat X?
We are battling wood rats and are looking for a way to eliminate them without hurting our birds of prey or other birds native to our area.
    A

Rat X will only work on mice and rats, and is safe for other animals since it is non-toxic for them. There is no risk of secondary poisoning.

  • Asked by Robin from Guthrie, Oklahoma
    11/24/2014
    Q
After a mouse eats Rat-X, but before it dies, will the mouse leave greenish blue droppings?
I put some out to get rid of a small mouse problem in my house and noticed some black droppings a few days later. But there were also a few really bright blue or green droppings as well. I know other poisons can cause green droppings, but those poisons are also green, which makes sense. But since Rat-X is brown, I am confused. Help! I'm confused and a little worried, but still hopeful! Thanks!
    A
Yes, the droppings of the mice and/or rats will become bleached in color and larger in size after consuming Rat X. This is an indicator of the product acceptance and consumption and can be up to three times larger than pellets from non-treated rodents.

  • Asked by Diana
    10/15/2019
    Q
I believe my dog ate Rat X. Will it harm him?
    A

Rat X is a non-toxic rodent bait that kills rodents without harming any other species. The rats will eat the bait like a food source and Rat X will cause dehydration. Rats have stomach sensors that tell them when they are thirsty, this will only affect rodents that eat the bait as dogs do not have this sensor. Of course, if you have concerns, it is recommended to contact your vet.

  • Asked by Andrea from Middletown, Ohio
    02/15/2016
    Q
Can Rat X kill a mouse and dry it up so it doesn't smell?
I used the pellets, and the mice ate them, but didn't die. I heard there are products that kill mice and they dry up and don't smell. I have an extreme mouse phobia and I can't set traps, but the cold weather has caused the problem. There is nothing they can eat in my house. So I think they would definitely eat poison. I have bought the pellet packs from you previously.
    A

Unfortunately, that is a myth. There is no product that will dry up a mouse and not make the mouse smell after it's dead. Rat X is the safest product available for indoor use to bait for mice and rats. I do recommend reading over our article on "How to Get Rid of Mice" for further understanding on how to bait and exclude mice from your home.

  • Asked by Katherine from Sandy, Utah
    03/11/2015
    Q
The directions use ounces and grams for measurements. About how many pellets does that equal?
    A
Rat X, like any other rodenticide, you want to make sure you are putting out more than enough bait to take care of the mice since the exact number is likely unknown. Check the areas you are putting the bait weekly and put out more as needed.

  • Asked by Brandstaetter from Jacksonville, Florida

    Q
Is Rat X harmful to squirrels, possums, armadilloes or raccoons?
I have a squirrel feeder which has now attracted a rat. I do not want to get rid of the feeder as it also attracts birds. Is your product ok to use with other animals in close proximity?
    A

Rat X <span new="" roman;="" font-size:medium"="">is a non-toxic rodent bait that kills rodents without harming any other species. There is not enough research to say if it kills squirrels or not since they can be classified as a rodent.

    01/15/2017
    Q
If a cat eats a rat or mouse that has eaten Rat X, is it harmful to them?
    A

In most cases well fed domesticated animals will not actually eat a mouse or a rat that they come across. Instead they will play with it, chew it and then leave it behind.  Of course if you have concerns you should contact your vet. Rat X in particular poses no risk of secondary poisoning.

  • Asked by Christina from New Port Richey, Fl
    04/06/2017
    Q
Do I have to put all water up when using Rat X?
I have a dog do i need to make sure that all standing water be dump?
    A

Mice and rats have stomach sensors that tells them when they are thirsty. When they eat Rat X, it turns off their stomach sensors and it can no longer tell their brain to drink water. They have no desire for drinking water so they will just go back to their burrow, and begin the cycle - dehydration, failing kidneys, coma and then death. So though it is not required to pull the water up, rats do need a separate water source from their food source, so anything you can do to restrict their access to other food and water will help speed up your treatment.

    Q
Would the poison in Rat X this pass through the mother's milk and kill the babies also?

No,that is not how Rat X or any other rodenticides work.  Rodents must ingest the rodenticide for it to be effective.

  • Asked by Jean from Warwick, Rhode Island
    10/07/2016
    Q
Will tossing handfuls of Rat X in the attic work to kill mice in the attic and wall voids?
I can't get up in my attic so tossed handfuls of rat X all over the Attic. I figure the mice will find the rat X since they are so active at night and run all over the Attic.
    A

If the rodents were to consume the Rat X, it will kill them. Keep in mind, we recommend using Glueboards and traps indoors. Tossing the bait in the attic can attract more insects. We see due to lack of space, how you would want to toss the bait. It's recommended to use bait in bait stations around the outside of the structure. Please see our Rodent Guide.

    Q
Can you guarantee that RatX will do no harm to all wild animals and birds, including birds of prey?
What testing have you done on your product?
    A

The manufacturer of Rat X states that they cannot guarantee that it will not harm other animals if they consume it.  We are only a distributor for this product. The manufacturer has done all of the research and testing. If you have more concerns, you can contact EcoClear directly at (888) 511-7289.

    Q
Will Rat X work for Wood Rats?
I read that you do not know if it will work for prairie dogs, etc. We have wood rats (pack rats) and mice that are driving us crazy outside - mice in the truck and quonset hut .... wood rats in the truck and car engine compartments. Wondering if "rats" includes wood rats.
    A

Rat X will also work for Wood Rats. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

  • Asked by Larry from Delaware
    02/11/2020
    Q
How much Rat X does a rat need to consume for it to be lethal? How does this bait kill?
    A

A rat would have to consume 40-60 grams, or 1.5 to 2 ounces of Rat X, or about 10-15 pellets for a lethal dose. This product kills by dehydration. The mice and rats will eat the bait like a food source. Mice and rats have stomach sensors that tell them when they are thirsty. When they eat this bait, it turns off their stomach sensors and it can no longer tell their brain to drink water. They have no desire for drinking water so they will just go back to their burrow, and begin the cycle - dehydration, failing kidneys, coma and then death.

    Q
Which product is best for rodents, but I have indoor dogs?
    A
Rat-X would be good to use for rodents inside if you wanted to use a bait as it will not harm other mammals.  We most recommend using traditional snap traps and glueboards when you have an indoor rodent problem.

  • Asked by Dee from Rohnert Park, Ca
    07/20/2017
    Q
Do you sell a rat bait that desiccates the carcasses so they don't smell?
We have an infestation of wood rats in the walls and attic. I understand the only way to get rid of them is poison, but don't want to have the carcasses I can't remove smell.
    A

If rodents have made their way into your home you will first need to find the area they are using as a point of entry and exit to your home. If they are not coming into the main living areas of your home at all for you to be able to use snap or glue traps to catch them, then they are still coming and going from your home regularly in order to survive and find food and water outside the home. You may want to look at using a Tomahawk One Way Door Rodent Excluder that allows them to exit the home but not get back in  before trying to use poison to eliminate them if dead rodents in your wall is a concern. In general, no bait on the market at all will keep the rodents from smelling. A decomposing carcus is still a decomposing carcus and has the ability to stink wherever it may die. The closest you will get to minimal smell is with the Rat X bait which should dry the rodents up a little faster to where you may not have to endure as much smell or for as long as you would with any other bait on the market.

  • Asked by Tonya from Griffin, Ga

    Q
If a rat eats the Rat X pellets and then my dog eats the rat, will it kill my dog?
I previously lost a dog to eating a rat that had consumed rat bait. I am scared to use anything now.
    A

Rat X is a non-toxic rodent bait that kills rodents without harming any other species. The rats will eat the bait like a food source and Rat X will cause dehydration. Rats have stomach sensors that tells them when they are thirsty, this will only effect rodents that eat the bait as dogs do not have this sensor.

  • Asked by Desiree from Mooresville, In
    07/24/2015
    Q
Is Rat X a "cat friendly" way to get rid of or poison mice?
    A

We would recommend using Rat X. Rat X is a non-toxic rodent bait that kills rodents without harming any other species. Rat X is made from 100% natural ingredients - it can even be used inside food handling facilities Please read the label for your application. You could also use multi-catch traps indoors such as the Catchmaster 612 Multi-Catch Mouse Trap. This trap can be used alone or with a Trapper LTD Glue Board inside each trap. A cat may be able to open this trap, so you would want to place it in a way where the animals could not turn it, or you could secure the lid with tape to keep it closed.
