    Q
What is the recommended concentration of Riptide 5% for our Stil Backpack Fogger?
We are using Riptide in our Stil backpack fogger and it has not been very effective. What is the correct concentration of Riptide 5% for this type of application method? Also, should we be using another product (or products) in conjunction with Riptide 5%?
    A

Riptide would only offer a quick knockdown. We would recommend applying the liquids in our Professional Mosquito Control Kit in the mist blower and focusing on the undersides of the foliage, dense areas, shady/damp areas, lawns and other areas listed where there is pest pressure. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article for additional pro tips on How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes.

    Q
How long does it take Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV to kill a German Cockroach at the maximum concentration?
I am using a ULV machine.
    A

Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV will only kill those roaches that are out in the open at the time you are fogging.  How long it takes to kill can depend on how much contact you make with the roaches and age and health of the roaches.  it can take a few minutes up to a few hours.

    Q
Can I use Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV on a patio?
    A

Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV is a mosquito control product designed for applications in residential misting systems if you have a 30-55 gallon drum with nozzles on your home, or you can mix it in a standard tank sprayer alone or with a residual insecticide to treat bushes and surfaces where mosquitoes or insects may be present. There would not be a reason to spray a patio with this product.

    Q
Is Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV the best insecticide to use to control maggie gnats (water flys) spiders, noseeums and other biting flies around a lake?
I live on a lake water on 3 sides the spiders & gnats are bad .. I have a back pack sprayer 3 gal .. I really want to just mist the seawall area & yard 2-3 foot up along side of house .. I have treated the balconies in the past with it over the counter insecticide it made a bigger mess with the Gnats then expected The clean up almost worse than the gnats However the spiders are almost uncontrollable thanks for your help
    A

Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV is specifically formulated for use in foggers and misting systems and would only work well for quick control of flying insects but it does not offer a long lasting residual. This cannot be used around bodies of water where there is aquatic life.

For treating around the lake EcoVia EC is labeled for a broad range of insects around bodies of water and for a residual spray to treat areas around the home or structure, Onslaught FastCap Spider and Scorpion  Insecticide along with with an IGR like Tekko Pro would be recommended.

Both EcoVia EC and Onlsaught + Tekko Pro should be applied using a backpack sprayer or pump sprayer.

    Q
When using Riptide in a fogger, do I dilute or use undiluted?
Fogmaster Micro Jet ULV Fogger 7401 thinking of purchasing this for my home have seen few roaches
    A

Riptide can be used undiluted or diluted inside of a fogger. This will only kill what it comes in contact with and does not leave a residual.

For roaches, we would recommend using residual products. We do have Roach Control Kit that comes with everything you will need to do a complete roach treatment. Please also check out our Roach Guide for tips and instructions on how to treat and prevent roaches.

How long is the residual effect of Riptide 5.0% in a baseball field for mosquitoes?
    A
Riptide 5.0% will only kill mosquitoes while it is wet, but it also has a slight repellent quality that will help keep new mosquitoes away for up to a day. Having said that the product is not labeled as a repellent and should not be expected to work as a repellent.

    Q
What spray do you recommend for a roach infestation?
    A
Riptide is a great "fogging" solution, but it does require ULV fogger equipment that can be quite expensive.  If you do not have a ULV fogger then we would recommend our best and most popular solution which is our Roach Control Kit #2.  It comes with the main products that are used by professional companies and has a very high success rate.

    Q
I bought Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin for indoor outdoor fleas
Can I used it in a sprayer? Once dry, will it be safe for kids and cats to return to the area? What ratio do I mix it for indoor use on carpets and furniture?
    A
While Riptide is a great product to use for misting or spraying for a huge lists of pests, the Riptide is not going to provide any residual for the fleas indoors or outdoors. This is a contact kill only product so once it is dry, it is completely safe, and completely gone. This will only kill the fleas you hit directly with it. If you want to use it that way it would be 2oz per gallon of water. While it will provide a knockdown, you would need something indoors like NyGuard Plus which can be used on the furniture, floors, pet bedding and other areas where they may harbor. It has a residual effect, quick knockdown of adults, and more importantly it has an IGR-or birth control-to keep them from reproducing and continuing the infestation. Once dry it is completely safe for pets and kids to re-enter the areas treated. For outdoor use you would need a mixture like our Talstar P and NyGuard IGR. These are concentrates you would mix together to spray on the lawn and any outdoor areas where the fleas are present, excluding edible vegetation. Be sure to keep your grass short and lawn dry to help deter the fleas from the yard as these are conditions they cannot thrive in. Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

    Q
    elm seed beetles
We are besieged with elm seed beetles in Boise. Nothing seems to phase or kill them. Sprays of lemon detergent with a little oil of peppermint chases them for a few minutes then they reappear again. A few show up on fly strips but don't like to use them too much because they also trap bees & lacewings. They are very fond of the maples in my back yard and are showing up on roof since there's a large branch over a portion of it. HELP!!!
    A
We apologize, but we are unfamiliar with the elm seed beetle. We would suggest that you contact your local cooperative extension office to get the beetle properly identified.

    Q
How long is the residual effect of Riptide before it has to be re-applied?
Does it compare to Talstar P or Mosquito Barrier for mosquito application?
    A
Riptide does not have a residual effect after it is dry. It also is applied using a misting system. Talstar P (Talstar One) has a 30 day residual outdoors and a 90 day residual indoors. Mosquito Barrier kills on contact and has a residual for up to a month. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
I have a professional mosquito misting machine installed at my house. They use Riptide, but I see it on many online stores, they recommend Vector-Ban as a more affordable alternative. Which one should I use?
    A
VECTOR-BAN Plus is for use in automatic misting systems, outdoor band applications, indoor applications, crack & crevice, ULV & space spray, and on listed animals and is a permethrin based product and has a bit of resiudal activity . Riptide ULV which is a pyrethrum based product that can be used in a mosquito misting machine with no residual properties only a contact kill. Both are great for erdicating mosquitoes in a misting system. Vector-Ban is a more affordable option as far as price point.

  • Asked by Feargal from Dallas Tx

    Q
Is the Riptide left in my mister system over the winter still effective?
We had a few freezes (Texas) Also does the mixture need to be stirred/agitated?
    A
The system and all nozzles should be cleaned/rinsed and the mixture should be discarded after being exposed to extreme temperatures. The manufacturer also suggests that high temperatures will degrade the active ingredient. Misting system containers should be sheltered and/or insulated to protect from the sun also. You should replenish with a new container of Riptide. It is not necessary to apply and agitator per the product label.

    Q
Can Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin be mixed with something like FenvaStar Plus Esfenvalerate 8.4%
    to provide residual effects
    A
Since Riptide would need to ba applied via Fogger, and Fenvastar could clog a fogger they could not be applied at the same time.  We recommend that you fog first for initial knockdown and then come back behind and spray Fenvastar.

    Q
Can Riptide be used around edibles for mosquito control?
We have a pool, pecan trees, and some fruits and vegetables. We would like to use one product that is safe for treatment of mosquitos and work for 30 days.
    A

Riptide is not labeled to be used around or on any type of edibles. We would recommend using Hi-Yield Indoor/Outdoor Broad Use Insecticide. It is labeled to be used on and around many kinds of edibles for control of mosquitoes.
