    Q
What product works best against zika mosquitoes in a misting system?
    zika mosquitoes
    A

We can give advice on how to reduce mosquito populations and reduce the risk of being bitten by mosquitoes that may vector disease, but any reduction in risk of contracting a disease is something we cannot comment on. The most popular concentrate we sell for mosquito misting systems in residential areas is Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV, which has a high percentage of active ingredient for quick knockdown of flying insects. Please also take a few moments to review our Mosquito Pest Guide for more information and tips about this pest.

  • Asked by Jana

    Q
What is the recommended concentration of Riptide for a root drench?
The pests we are dealing with are root aphids. Any other recommendations, in addition to optimum concentration, are welcome. Thanks!
    A

Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV is not labeled to be used as a root drench.  It is not a systemic and will not be absorbed through the roots.  It is only for spraying plants surfaces to kill exposed aphids on plants. If you are looking for a systemic product to apply as a soil drench Adonis 2F would be a better option.

Yes, Riptide can be used in the Commander TriJet Fogger or any other ULV fogger.  Per the product label: With a ULV spraying device, spray at a dosage rate of five (5) fl. oz. of undiluted concentrate per minute up-wind of the area to be controlled.   If possible, space spray application should be made in the evening or early morning when Mosquitoes are typically most active."  You can mix Riptide with NyGuard IGR

    Q
Can I mix Riptide with cedar oil?
    A

While you can spray cedar oil and Riptide in the same place for insect control, we do not recommend mixing the products together. Riptide is water based and will not mix with the cedar oil.  This could cause the products to be unstable and may also damage your sprayer.

  • Asked by Roger from Trafford, Pa
    04/20/2017
    Q
How long does an application of Riptide last? Does it kill ticks?
    A

Riptide does not have a residual effect after it is dry. It also is applied using a misting system. Riptide is labeled to kill ticks, as well as various other flying insects. It is a contact kill only.

An option that is longer lasting is the Tick Control Kit. It contains Cyzmic CS and Archer IGR. An IGR is an insect growth regulator. This will stop the ticks from reproducing. The mixing ratio is Archer IGR: 1 fl. oz. Cyzmic CS: .4oz into one gallon of water. Treatments can be done every 14 days until the ticks are eradicated. After that, for regular treatments, spraying every 30 days is enough.

    Q
Can Riptide be used in a micro injector system such as the Actisol Compact?
Having good success with other products in my micro injector, but like the idea of the water based Riptide.
    A

We do not recommend treating with Riptide unless you are looking for a contact kill only. Per the product label it states the following: If used in a direct injection system, the pesticide container must be locked. Securely attach the end use label to the pesticide container in a weather protected area or plastic sleeve. Please let us know what you are treating for so that we can offer other recommendations.
