    Q
After applying Talstar Granules and watering in, when is the next treatment, could not find any information?
    A
We are not exactly sure what you are treating for, but Talstar granules are made to last for about 90 days after watered into your lawn.  So, we recommend re-applying every 3 months for optimum protection.

    Q
Is the Talstar PL Granules safe on newer lawns?
We seeded last Fall, we were a little late, most seeds germinated but not all.
    A
Talstar PL is an insecticide, not a pre-emergent or herbicide, so it has no effect on germinating grass or turf whatsoever.  It will not harm, inhibit, or promote any kind of growth in turf grass, it is strictly formulated to kill insects and that's it.  So there are no issues at all with using it on your grass.

  • Asked by Carl from Winter Garden, Fl.
    05/09/2012
    Q
Can I use my Agri-Fab Broadcast Spreader (Model 45-02111) for Talstar PL Granules (Setting?)
    A
You can use just about any hand spreader a long as it can be calibrated for the usage rate you will require. The easiest way to determine the correct setting for your needs is outlined below:

If you need to use 3lbs of product per 1,000 sq ft you would add 3 lb of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft area (1,000 sq ft).  If you have product left, your setting is too low.  If you run out of product, your setting is too high.

Please refer to the Talstar PL product label to determine the correct usage rate for your specific needs.

    Q
What granular or dust product is most recommended for chigger control?
I do have kids present in the backyard. I plan on treating only the mulched areas, not the entire turf area of the yard, plus an area where English Ivy forms as a groundcover.
    A
Talstar PL granules is our most popular for chiggers.  It is also very safe.  You should water in the granules after application.  Kids and pets can reenter the treatment area after you have watered the product in and it has had time to dry.

  • Asked by Steve from Harlingen, Tx
    08/08/2013
    Q
Can Talstar PL be used for American Cockroach Control?
Will they die if they craw over it or if they eat it?
    A

Talstar Granules are not labeled for roach control. This is because the granules will settle at the base of the grass and then after they are watered in, will be even deeper in the soil which will minimize the chance that the roaches will contact the treated areas. You may want to consider using the liquid concentrate Talstar P so you will have better coverage to kill the roaches. The liquid will be on top of the grass and at the base to help control the roaches. The liquid can be used on and in your home as well.

  • Asked by Tom from Bonita, California

    Q
    Earthway C22HD settings
I have the Earthway C22HD spreader (which you sell) I read the Talstar info sheet and they did not list the setting for my spreader. Is there a cross reference chart?
    A
Yes, we would recommend looking at the product label for the Earthway C22HD. Talstar PL granules are fine (the size of sand) so the spread width is 5-7 feet. You will need to test the spread width of the product in the spreader and then the setting rate can be established.

  • Asked by Amy from Suwanee, Ga

    Q
How long does it take for Talstar PL granules to work?
We laid down the product for serious ant problems almost 48 hours ago. We're still seeing them running around outside. Is this normal?
    A
Talstar PL granules needs to be watered in to be activated after it has been broadcast across the area, if this has not already been done. Depending on the severity of the ants will depend on how long it takes. It could possibly take 2-3 weeks for full control. The product will last in the soil for 2-3 months.

  • Asked by Terry
    07/17/2015
    Q
Can I use Talstar PL Granules for chinch bugs on St. Augustine grass?
    A

Talstar PL Granules are one of the most effective chinch bug treatments on the market. Chinch bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Irrigate the treated area with up to 0.25 inches of water immediately after application to activate (release from the granule) the insecticide. Chinch bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher applications rates will be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the summer. It may also be necessary to remove the thatch layer if it exceeds 1 inch in thickness to allow the Talstar to penetrate down to the soil.

If you have a few small spots the St. Augustine runners might fill it in this season (of course water, fertilizer, and lots of sunshine helps). If large portions of the lawn were damaged it will likely be late spring or later of next year before the lawn recovers. Very heavily damaged areas may need to be resodded.

  • Asked by Jeffrey from Clarks Summit, Pa
    03/16/2016
    Q
What is the preferred method of application for tick control for Talstar PL?
    A

Talstar PL Granules are applied with a granule spreader at the rate of 2.3 to 4.6 lb per 1000 sqft.  Please refer to the product label for more specific tick control instructions.  Granule products will only control the young stages of ticks really as these are the ones in the soil.  For adult control it is recommended to use sprays such as those in our Outdoor Tick/Flea Kit.  We also have some great advice here.

  • Asked by Nancy from Arkansas
    05/28/2016
    Q
How can I use Talstar PL Granules for termite control in my flower beds?
How much product should be put down in flower beds to kill the termites in my mulch?
    A

The Talstar PL Granules are not labeled specifically for the control over termites so outside of using the Talstar at its normal application rates per 1000 sq/ft and watering it in, we cannot advise on that specific use. Talstar P in the liquid form however is labeled for controlling Termites and you can use it at the 0.06% solution on the label to drench the soil with.

  • Asked by Lauren from Nokomis, Fl
    08/22/2016
    Q
How far away from a citrus tree can Talstar PL be spread safely?
I am trying to control an infestation of white -footed ants and Talstar seems to be the only effective treatment but I have an orange tree in my backyard and I don't want to apply it if it's not safe. Also should I use Talstar PL or Talstar Extra?
    A

Talstar PL granules should not be used on or within the dripline or root zone of edible vegetation.  Either the PL or the Talstar XTRA could be used, XTRA would just provide a faster kill to the ones that contact a treated area.

  • Asked by Alex from Manuela, Hi
    03/23/2017
    Q
If I put Talstar PL Granules over mulch, will it give me the same result?
    A

If you apply Talstar PL Granules over mulch it can work for pests that crawl over those areas. For a more effective treatment though, we would recommend moving the mulch and applying the granules in that area, that way pests that like moisture and usually hide under mulch like centipedes, millipedes, silverfish, etc. can come in contact with the residual.

    Q
How would Talstar PL Granules impact my dog?
Our pest control company used these, but did not water them in. My dog became very sick a couple days later. If my dog ate the granules, what would happen? What are the symptoms? What is the treatment?
    A

Talstar PL Granules, when applied as directed, should not harm pets at all.  There is only enough active ingredient to harm small insects. We would ecommend that you contact FMC, the manufacturer, at 1-800-321-1362 and your veterinarian for further assistance.
