Talstar P is labeled to treat for termites and lasts for about 5 years in the ground and works as a repellent, killing only those insects that come into contact with the treated area. A better option for subterranean termites non repellent termiticide such as Termidor SC or Dominion 2L. Termidor will last up to to 10 years in the soil and Dominion 2L will last 5-7 years. Non repellents work slower but much more effectively when treating a termite colony as they are able to be transferred thorought the entire colony therefore eventually elimating the colony. Talstar P will only repel the termites, not kill the entire colony.
Talstar P (Talstar One) is mixed at 1 fl oz per gallon of water. It can be applied safely to ornamentals (nothing edible). While it might kill broad mites as well it is not labeled for them so we cannot recommend it for this use.
Please keep your pets out of the Talstar P treated area until dried. After the product is diluted there is only a small enough amount of active ingredient to harm small insects. If your cat were to nibble on a small area no harm should be posed. You may also want to consider having the service not treat where your cat may be nibbling.
We do not recommend using Talstar P for powderpost beetles. The label does allow for this application in voids and galleries of damaged wood, but this would be a difficult applciation. Our most popular treatment for this pest is using Boracare on raw wood that is infested. If you need to treat finished wood such as wooden floors, then you would either need to strip the wood to treat it, or spot treat the individual holes using Jecta, which is a ready-to-use formulation of Boracare. We have more tips in our Treatment Guide for this pest here.
Talstar P cannot be used on pets or on edible vegetation or in places where it could potentially get into a body of water or a water supply. For a full list of places and/or situations where Talstar P cannot be used please refer to the Product Label. For your convenience we have linked the product label in our answer but the product labels are available for each product on our site and you can see the product label links on each individual product page
Talstar P is labeled for use in a wide array of areas including the lawn, bushes, trees, and shrubs if the pests you are treating for are congregating in those areas. You can refer to the product label for mix rates and target areas for the specific pest you are having trouble with. Keep in mind, you cannot use this on edibles like a vegetable garden or fruit trees or close to lakes/ponds.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide does have a 3-5 year shelf life if stored in a cool, dry place. If the appearance is good and there is no clumping etc., it should be fine to apply.
Talstar P (Talstar One) would be a great choice for applications on boxwoods. Talstar granules can be applied in the lawn and watered in for 2-4 months of coverage. Please provide the targeted pest for additional information.
Unfortunately the state of Connecticut has limited most of the products out there on the market these days that can be shipped into the state without having a license to purchase them. Pest Xpert Home Barrier would be one option of a comparable insecticide spray to Talstar that could be used in CT. An all natural option that works similarly is Essentria IC3 and can cover a wide range of pests and usage areas like the Talstar as well.
No, Talstar will not harm your impatiens. It is safe to apply to any plants that are not edible.
We would not recommend treating the inside of the home with Talstar P for flea control. When used indoors, it is only labeled for a crack and crevice application. We recommend that you treat with the products in our Indoor Flea Kit. Also, please take a few moments to read our guide on How To Get Rid of Fleas for more helpful information.
