    Q
Will this work to kill Pollila or wood moth larvae?
    A
We are not familiar with wood moths or Pollila. We did attempt to look them up with no success. We can tell you that Talstar P is not labeled for wood moths or Pollila. Perhaps these insects are not a pest species in the United States?

    Q
If using the Chapin Professional Hose-end Sprayer with Metering Dial (G362D), can Talstar P be sprayed at the rate of 1 fl oz in 3 gallons of water as long as the entire amount is applied over the entire 1000 square foot area? Using more water makes it easier to cover the correct area with a hose end sprayer.
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide should not be applied using a hose end sprayer when treating  lawns, landscape beds, trees, etc. The liquid concentrate is too thick of a liquid and would clog the hose end sprayer. In a handpump or backpack sprayer, you can use the 1fl oz of Talstar P in 3 gallons of water over 1000 sq ft to insure adequate coverage.

    Q
Would I use Talstar P or Tempo SC for gnats?
    A

Talstar P and Tempo SC Ultra are very good products for gnat control. The biggest difference between them is that they have two different active ingredients. They are both great insecticides and can be alternated so that there is no pest resistance built up. Be sure to inspect the lawn for any ways to control moisture build-up such as eliminating standing water and trimming trees and shrubs to allow moist soil to dry.

    Q
Can I use a hose end sprayer with a siphon tube with Bifen XTS or Talstar?
I am treating my lawn and trees (1,000 sq. ft.) where the hose end sprayer would make the job easier.
    A

We would recommend that, if you really need to use a hose-end sprayer, you use Talstar P. P. Please refer to the label for proper application.

  • Asked by Richard from Sanford Nc

    Q
What do I use to kill the ground bees that come up every spring?
    A

Ground bees, also known as digger bees, can be very difficult to control no matter what product you use and they most likely will come back to your property year after year unless you do your part to alter your property to make it unfavorable to the bees. Ground bees prefer dry soils with thin grasses so irrigating the area frequently and correcting any issue that causes your grass to be thin will help deter the bees from nesting. In areas where you do not have grass, a layer of mulch will help deter the bees from nesting. Ground bees are solitary bees and are not very aggressive and are known to be a beneficial insect which is why you will not find any products specifically labeled for this type of bee. Talstar P can help provide some level of control but it will not get rid of all of the ground bees on your property. You should use Talstar P at a 1 oz of product to 1 gallon of water for a 1,000 sq ft area ratio. This will give you the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual. Talstar P does not offer an instant knockdown but will kill insects that come into contact with treated areas over a short period of time.

  • Asked by Tysen from Norwalk, Ct
    08/11/2018
    Q
I have a 200 gallon tank. How many ounces per gallon of Talstar do I need for spraying ticks?
    A

When using Talstar P for ticks in the lawn, the rate is 0.5 - 1.0 oz. per 1000 sq. ft. in at least 1 gallon of water.  So for 200 gallons, you would use 100-200 oz. Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use higher spray volumes when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. Repeat application is necessary only if there are signs of renewed activity. Limit repeat application to no more than once per seven days

Can I spray Talstar P through a Big John commercial mist machine?
    A

We are not familiar with that misting system. Talstar P is a great product to use in a misting sprayer. Riptide and Pyrahna are still top choices for misting systems.

    Q
Is Talstar P Professional Insecticide effective on bed bugs?
    A

Yes, Talstar P Professional Insecticide is labeled for bedbugs and should be applied at the highest concentration of 1 fl oz per gallon of water. According to the product label: "Thorough application should be made to crack and crevices where evidence of bed bugs occurs. This includes bed frames, box springs, inside empty dressers and clothes closets and carpet edges, high and low wall moldings and wallpaper edges. Do not use this product on bed linens, pillows, mattresses or clothes. Remove all clothes and other articles from dressers or clothes closets before application. Allow all treated areas to thoroughly dry before use.
Important note from the manufacturer: “Not recommended for use as sole protection against bedbugs. If evidence of bedbugs is found in/on mattresses, use products approved for this use."

The most effective treatment for active bed bug infestations would be using a combination of products as we have in one of our Bed Bug Kits. These kits are based on how many bedrooms you have and contain enough product for the initial application and 2-3 follow up treatments that are required for bes results. Repeat treatments should be done every 7-10 days until you can go 30 days without seeing any signs of bed bugs or without anyone getting bit.

You may also find it helpful to read our Bedbug Treatment Guide as it contains a lot of useful information regarding where and how to treat for bedbugs.

    Q
What's the mixing ratio of Talstar P when using a lawn sprayer that's connected to a garden hose?
I know it's 1 oz per gallon in a pump sprayer.
    A

The rate for Talstar P in a hose end sprayer would be the same as if you were using in a pump sprayer, 0.5 to 1 fl oz (1 - 2 tbsp) per gallon of water for low volume applications, or 0.5 -1.0 fl. oz. per 1,000 square feet in a higher volume of water.

    Q
Do you have anything that works on Argentina ants?
    A
We have many products that will work great on Argentine ants. We normally recommend if they are coming inside your home to use our Complete Ant Kit. This provides both a protein(granular) and sugar(gel) bait for the ants to find when foraging that they take back and feed to the colony to eliminate it at the source. Once they are no longer in the home and the colony is all gone, you can use the Talstar as a general barrier and lawn spray to keep any new ones from congregating or coming in the home. If you do not currently have them in your home and just outdoors, you can use the Talstar to keep them from coming in and any area you spray that an ant comes into contact with will kill them. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Would Talstar P be effective as a spray above a drop-ceiling for varied carpet beetles?
    A

Since Talstar P is labeled for use indoors as a crack and crevice spray, you could potentially use it to spot treat in a drop ceiling, however this product is not labeled for carpet beetles. We recommend adding an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) when treating for carpet beetles, such as NyGuard IGR. You could also use a ready-to-use product like NyGuard Plus which has both an insecticide and an IGR in one product. A better choice for use in the drop ceiling may be an insecticide dust, though, since it is a dry product that would not damage the tiles, and a dust lasts much longer than a spray in void spaces like a drop ceiling. Delta Dust can be used in a drop ceiling for carpet beetles and other crawling insect pests there. Or you may consider our Carpet Beetle Control Kit which includes the NyGuard Plus, CimeXa Dust, and glue traps.

Be sure that you have located and removed the source of the infestation as well. We have more tips in our Carpet Beetle Treatment Guide here

    Q
Can I spray Talstar P near water?
I have spiders at my boathouse. How often will I have to respray ?
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide should not be used near bodies of water as it is extremely toxic to fish and aquatic life. We suggest Essentria IC3 as it is labeled to be used around water areas such as docks. It can be reapplied every 30 days outdoors for spiders and other listed insects.

    Q
How effective is Talstar P against mosquitoes and how often do I treat?
    A

Talstar works great for mosquito control. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out during the heat of the day. Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control. When treating for mosquitoes we also recommend the use of an IGR like Tekko Pro. Tekko Pro IGR contains the active ingredient Pyridine that imitates a growth hormone and prevents full develop in immature mosquitoes.
