Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide is not labeled for clover mites or mites in general. DeltaGard G Granules or Talstar P Professional Insecticide would work for them
Since Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide doesn't mention the spittlebugs on the label, we cannot recommend using it to control them. The liquid version, Talstar P, does list spittlebugs as controlled.
Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide is not labeled for any variety of wasps. You may consider dusting their holes with Delta Dust Insecticide, they will contact as they go in and out of the hole.
A 25 lb bag of Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide covers 5,000-10,000 sq ft depending on rate applied (1.15-4.6 lbs/1,000 sq ft). It is applied at 50-200 lbs per acre.
Talstar Xtra has an additional active ingredient, which is zeta-cypermethrin (they both contain bifenthrin). It also is less dusty and all the granules are uniform in size. Talstar PL granules are a sandy granule. They both cover a broad range of pests and can be used in your lawn, commercial areas and recreational areas.
Talstar Xtra Granules is not labeled for termites. For products and information on the treatment of termites, please click here.
Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide will get rid of most ant species except for Pharoah ants.
Leaf cutter ants can be a difficult pest to get rid of. The colonies are large and the ants make their own food so poison baits only have limited effects on this species of ants. Plants can be protected temporarily using dust or granular formulations of contact insecticides, like acephate, carbaryl or permethrin. but such treatments must be reapplied frequently. Also, plant applications do little to eliminate the underground nest.According to several university websites, Maxforce Complete Granules containing hydramethlynon are some what effective, though they will usually eliminate only about 30% of a large colony in one treatment and will need to be reapplied several times. DeltaGard granules is one of the only products actually labeled for leaf cutter ants. The product label recommends treating the mound directly and lightly watering the granules in.
Again, it may take several treatments to get the desired results. Since Leafcutter Ant nests may extend deep underground and are often located near bodies of water, call your local cooperative extension office for their recommendations before using any insecticide spray.
Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide could not be used in areas where animals may consume the turfgrass as this is not labeled for grazing areas.
Permethrin SFR 36.8% would be a better option for treating the lawn and surrounding areas for fleas along with tank mixing NyGuard IGR to help stop the reproduction cycle. These products can be used in and around livestock premises and where ducks, chickens and pigs would roam. Mix Permethrin SFR at 0.4 to 0.8 fl oz per 4 gallons of water along with 4 ml to 8 ml per gallon of water per 1000 sq f.
View the Permethrin SFR product label and NyGuard IGR product label for more information.
Yes, Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide and GrubEx can be applied the same day. Just be sure that you are using sufficient water volume to fully water the granules into the soil.
Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide is not labeled for silverfish. Demand G Granules are labeled for Silverfish if you prefer a granule insecticide.
Please view our Silverfish Control Products and Treatment Guide for more information.
Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide is not labeled for mosquitoes or mosquito larvae. Granule insecticides are not going to be effective to treat mosquitoes as mosquitoes hide on the undersides of leaves and foliage during the heat of the day, in areas of dense foliage, trees, shrubs and in shaded, cool damp areas. Using a liquid insecticide concentrate such as Talstar P Liquid Concentrate would be a better option for mosquito control.
For mosquito larvae, Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide would be the recommended product to use in areas of standing water to kill larvae and help stop with breeding.
Please view our Mosquito Treatment Guide and our Mosquito Control Kits that offer a variety of options for treating mosquito populations on your property.
Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide uses 2 active ingredients (zeta Cypermethrin & Bifenthrin) for a quick knockdown and longer residual than Talstar P Liquid Insecticide. These granules last 2-3 months against listed insects and are also uniform in size and made of a clay verge material to evenly dissolve when watered in providing even coverage. Talstar P lasts for 30 days outdoors.
For heavy flea populations outdoors, we would recommend using an Insect Growth Regulator like NyGuard IGR to help stop the reproduction cycle. If using Talstar XTRA Granules, this would be a separate application using a handpump/backpack sprayer. If using Talstar P Liquid, you could tank mix the IGR in the same tank. View the NyGuard IGR product label for more information.
Please take a moment to review our Flea Control Guide for additional helpful tips on eradicating this pest.

Talstar XTRA Granules is applied at the rates sprecific for the insects being targeted ranging from 1.15 to 2.3lbs per 1000 sq ft (50 to 100 Lbs per acre) or 2.3 to 4.6lbs per 1000 sq ft (100 to 200 Lbs per) Refer to the product label for the recommended rates for your application.
Unfortunately, we do not have the spreader settings for that specific combo, and since the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag we are unsure what the exact setting would be. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, there isn't a master list that exists. You may want to try calling the manufacturer of your spreader or the chemical itself directly, to see if anyone on their staff has that info. Otherwise, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates.
Take a moment to view our How to Calibrate your Spreader Video for a short demonstration on how to do this.
The amount per 1k square feet of Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide will differ depending on what pest you are treating for.
Please refer to Earthway 2150 Broadcast Spreader Product Manual for the proper settings that coincide with the application rates recommended on the Talstar XTRA product label.
Talstar XTRA Granules can be toxic to honey bees if the land on the treated areas even after they have dried. We would recommend Mavrik Perimeter that is non toxic to honey bees once dry. Please review the product label for more information.
Arena and Talstar Xtra would be great to rotate with if you choose to do so, another option is Acelepryn G for all 3 issues. It takes years of exposure to one certain active for insects to develop resistance to a product, so generally you do not need to rotate every season.
