    Q
Will Taurus SC seep through weed control fabric enough to be effective?
I have already trenched and treated, but I want to continue periodic treatment. Thank You.
    A

Annual retreatments or touch ups of Taurus SC for trenching is not permitted per the product label. Follow up or "touch applications" should not be applied unless the circumstances listed below occur. If spot applications or retreatments are needed, any weed control fabric material, rocks, mulch or barriers would need to be removed for the retreatment.

Per the product label: Retreatment for subterranean termites can only be performed under the following circumstances:
    1. There is clear evidence of re-infestation.
    2. There is disruption of the treated zone due to construction, excavation, or landscaping and / or there is evidence of the breakdown of termiticide treated zone in the soil.

    Q
When using Taurus as a Perimeter Spray is 2, 3, or 4 treatments per year better?
When doing a perimeter spray for Carpenter Ants is there any preference/advantage between using the higher concentration 2x per year or the lower concentration 4x per year?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide would be applied twice a year at the higher rate of 0.8 fl oz.  You can only do 4 times a year if doing the lower 0.4 fl oz per gallon.  Either rates can be used, the higher rate being the stronger application and longer residual

    Q
How long does Taurus SC Termiticide stay in soil?
I had Taurus pesticide sprayed a year ago. I have asparagus growing on the side of my house where they sprayed. How long till my plants are free of the pesticides
    A

Taurus SC  if only used as a surface spray around the perimeter of the home should only last about 2 months, however if used as a termite soil treatment the product will last for up to 10 years to protect the home. The manufacturer recommends not growing anything within 1 foot of where the product was used, and if the product was used as a spray only, you would need to wait 1 year from the last application before growing edibles within the soil where it was applied.

    Q
My home is on piers and is 1400 sq feet can I just spray the crawl space with Taurus SC?
My home is on piers and is 1400 sq feet, can I spray the crawl space floor piers and wood floor all 78oz at .80 ratio for termite will this do the trick?
    A

No, Taurus SC is not a wood treatment product and would nto be used on the wood floor or piers. If you need to treat for or protect against subterranean termites you must use the product as it is designed and labeled to be used, which is in 6 inch wide by 6 inch deep trench dug around every pier and foundation point that touches the ground. You can see how to do the full Subterranean Termite Treatment in our Guide. If you have an existing subterranean termite problem, you would need to treat the soil and give up to 90 days for the colony to be eliminated. If you wish to treat the subfloor and raw exposed wood for prevention and protection, you would use a product like Boracare either after the 90 days of soil treatment, or if you are doing prevention only with both products, you can use the Boracare on the wood right away.

Swimming Pool and Taurus SC Termiticide
Sprayed into an expanded contraction joint in the deck around my swimming pool. Noticed a couple of drops go into the swimming pool. Is this still safe to use?
    A

If only a few drops of diluted solution of Taurus SC Termiticide actually went into the pool, it should be fine since it is so very diluted by the pool water. For further questions, you can call Control Solutions at 281.892.2500.

  • Asked by Angie from Ridgeway
    06/13/2023
    Q
Will Taurus SC kill the termites that are already in the attic or wood in the house or do I need to spray separately?
    A

If you need to control termites that are already inside the home, then you will need to spot treat those areas of activity with Taurus SC Termiticide or another product to insure they are controlled. A soil treatment for subterranean termites may not control termites that have already entered the home. If you have drywood termites, then you must control the colony directly at the site.

Most folks will use a ready-to-use product for spot treating colonies inside the structure, such as Termidor Foam.

  • Asked by Dewayne from Louisiana
    02/28/2025
    Q
Is Taurus SC Termiticide harmful to cows and horses?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide is a liquid termiticide for soil applications as directed around structures. It is not for any grazing areas or areas where cow and horses have access. Due to the high-water table and potential for regular flooding in the state of Louisiana, most of the soil termiticides such as Taurus SC are not for use in the soil in that state. This means only unique and safer formulations that won't get into the water are allowed, or bait stations in instances where liquids are not the preferred option.

  • Asked by Dave from Gulf Shores, Al
    11/21/2024
    Q
Shelf life vs effective treatment life of Taurus SC Termiticide
I see that the shelf life at room temperature is five (5) years. However, the product is effective (foundation trench treatment) for up to eight (8) years. Can you explain why the products works to prevent termites for 8 years but is only storable for five years? AND if I store the product for five years and then re-treat my foundation, will the product still provide the same 8-year protection? Thanks, Dave from Gulf Shores, AL
    A

Taurus SC, when applied to a termite trench, adheres to soil particles, shielding the active ingredient, fipronil, from degradation. The soil's stable environment helps maintain the product's potency for up 10 years. Yes, storing Taurus SC for up to five years and then reapplying it to your foundation can still provide 10 years of protection. As long as the product has been stored correctly and is within its expiration date, its effectiveness will remain unchanged.

    Q
Post Construction in Louisiana with Taurus SC Termiticide
Why is this not approved for post-construction in Louisiana and Termidor is? I thought they are essentially the same?
    A

Taurus SC does contain the same active ingredient as Termidor SC, however, legal labeling will vary between different manufacturers for numerous reasons. Termidor SC label was just recently to allow post construction applications in Louisiana so Control Solutions may get theirs updated as well.   It just takes time.

    A

Taurus SC is an effective termiticide against a variety of subterranean, arborel, drywood, and dampwood (e.g. Reticulitermes, Zootermopsis, Heterotermes, and Coptotermes) termites, and other wood-infesting pests (e.g., carpenter ants, beetles, borers) as directed.

    Q
Can Taurus SC be sprayed on the underneath wood slats of a shed on a gravel pad?
    A

Taurus SC is made to adhere to soil for termite control.  It is not labeled to be sprayed just to wood for any type of prevention for termites. Termites are found on the inside of wood, so spraying the outside of the wood, typically will not affect them.

    Q
Why can't Taurus SC be applied into the crack of between driveway and wall?
Reading the instructions is says not to apply to this area. And it also says not to apply between Nov and Feb. Why?
    A

Per the Taurus SC label: For driveways, exterior drilling is necessary only around building supports or wall elements permanently located at driveway joints.

Taurus SC Termiticide is a restrictive product in general in regards to where, when, and how often it can be applied even in states outside of California. Per the state and EPA, it cannot be applied in California between November 1 and February 28 per the label, and the label is the law. In general, November-February are considered winter months that no insecticides would normally be recommended for as this is not an active pest season or time of year. When registering the Taurus label and use in California, they made sure to specify to not use during these times of year to further reduce any unnecessary applications of the chemical.

    Q
After digging down 6 inches I'm still in the mulch. Is that acceptable or should I dig down into the soil before using Taurus?
    A

Taurus SC is only able to effectively work with soil, it will not bond properly with mulch. You can dig a little lower but fill the trench back with soil only, mulch on the top if using.

  • Asked by Wilfred from Tampa, Fl

    Q
Can Taurus SC get rid of honey bee inside concrete wall?
    A

Taurus SC is not labeled for use inside a concrete wall for honey bee control. There are no products for controlling honeybees as they are beneficial to the environment and are protected.

The first thing you can do is contact your local cooperative extension office and ask for the phone number for your local honey bee farmer. Many bee farmers will come remove honey bees free of charge because of the recent decline in the honey bee population. If this is not an option for you, you can use a hand duster to apply a dust product such as Tempo Dust into and around the area where the bees seem to be gaining access into the wall. Over a period of a couple of days to a week (timeline will depend on how many bees are contacting the treated area) this will kill off the colony. Any insecticide applications should be done very early in the morning or very late in the evening when the bees are less active.

After the bees have been eliminated it is important to remove the bee hive from the void where the bees were nesting. Failure to remove the hive can lead to mold issues and secondary infestation from hive beetles and other insects. If the bee hive is in an area that is not easily accessible you may want to consider hiring a professional pest control operator.

You can also contact your local department of agriculture or cooperative extension office in your county for resources and help on removing them from the property as well.

    Q
Is it ok to use Taurus in my home?
They already used it so I just wanted to find out a little more
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide is NOT labeled for indoor general pest control. The Taurus SC Termiticide product label only allows indoor applications to wall voids (behind sheet rock), unfinished attics, unfinished basements, and crawlspaces for active termite infestations.  Taurus SC Termiticide could be harmful if used indoors and would be in violation of the product label.
