    Q
After applying Tenacity do I just put topsoil over the white dead bentgrass area, and re-seed over it?
After 2 or 3 applications it's turning white, I've read previously that I shouldn't remove the dead white grass.
    A

We would recommend removing the dead bentgrass before planting your seed after using Tenacity Herbicide.

    Q
How long do I need to wait after spraying Tenacity Herbicide to put some micro clover in my lawn?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide can last in the soil up to 30 days if used as a broadcast pre emergent treatment, so you would need to wait at least 30 days after an application before putting in any new seeds.

  • Asked by Hiep from Kent, Wa
    07/17/2021
    Q
Can you spray tenacity over dead grass
Haven't watered the grass. Grass is dead. The summer heat has killed my lawn. I have annul bluegrass in with the dead grass. Will this help with killing the annul bluegrass if I spray tenacity over the dead grass?
    A
Tenacity Herbicide will not control annual bluegrass so whether the lawn was currently alive or dead wouldn't make a difference in this case. If the lawn is already dead, you can spot spray the annual bluegrass with roundup. Typically, annual bluegrass cannot withstand high heat temps, so if the heat this summer has been high enough to kill or heavily damage your lawn, it should have also done the same to the annual bluegrass. If you plan to reseed your lawn this fall, then you can try using the Tenacity as a pre emergent during seeding, however it is only labeled for poa annua suppression when used as a pre, and there are other herbicides that would be better suited to preventing it from coming back. However the herbicides that do this the most effectively are also ones that would prevent your new grass from coming up, so you could not seed and use a better suited pre for poa annua in the same season.

  • Asked by Chris from Lewisville Nc

    Q
Can I use Tenacity Herbicide to get rid of vine type of ivy growing in juniper or do you have another recommendation?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is not listed to control any type of vines not can it be used over juniper. We would recommend carefully treating using a non selective such as Roundup directly to the vine. This is best done if the vine is cut and applied directly using a small paint brush to the fresh cut surface.  Or hand pulling is the other option.

  • Asked by Kurt from Swansboro, Nc

    Q
Tenacity for crabgrass in a very thick Centipede grass lawn.
I've got patches of crabgrass in a thick Centipede lawn. Can I spray Tenacity on it mid-summer even if it's down deep in the centipede?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide can be applied in the summer and works best on crabgrass that has just emerged up to the 4 tiller stage.  Keep in mind that the best temperature range to apply most herbicides, including Tenacity, is between 65-85 degrees. We recommend early morning or late evening applications to avoid damage to your lawn.

  • Asked by Shuang from Scotch Plains, Nj
    08/07/2021
    Q
Can Tenacity Herbicide be used to treat poa annua, clover, etc in my lawn that is a mix of bermuda and fescue? Wanting the best and most effective weed killer for my needs?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is labeled safe for fescue lawns however can ONLY be applied to bermuda turfgrass when it is dormant without the risk of injury. Tenacity can be used for pre and post emergent (with Non Ionic Surfactant) control of clover but will only suppress poa annua, it will not fully control it.

Since poa annua and cool season grasses are so closely related, there are few products that will kill the poa annua without also harming the lawn. For Poa Annua in cool season turfgrasses, we recommend a spot-treat with a Roundup-type product and then reseed with the desirable grass type in those areas.

Applying a pre emergent like Pendulum 2G or Dimension 2EW in late fall and early spring to prevent weeds like poa annua, clover, crabgrass, and many other grassy and broadleaf weeds from germinating is also helpful.

  • Asked by Geoffrey from Liverpool, New York
    08/18/2021
    Q
How soon can apply Tenacity Herbicide after/between rainfall?
I live in upstate NY (Liverpool). We've gotten a bunch of rain Lately. I installed a roll of turf 3 weeks ago and it has established itself well. I unfortunately there is a about a 1-foot square section of crabgrass immediately next to it. My questions: How soon can apply after/between rainfall events? Can I apply tenacity to this area where newish turf and crabgrass meet? I also have pathed a few spots around the awn where I placed soil and seed. I have new grass that appears ready for mowing and some areas that have just started sprouting. I plan to avoid these patches until they are mowed a couple times. Any advice about these would be greatly appreciated.
    A

As stated on the product label of Tenacity, this product should be applied when there is no rain in the forecast for at least 48 hours. "If rainfall (0.15 inches) has not occurred within 10 days after preemergence application, activate with 0.15 inches of irrigation." This product can be applied to established, tolerable turf types.

Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.

  • Asked by James from San Antonio, Tx

    Q
Is Tenacity effective against Sandburs? If so, when is the best time to treat?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is labeled for post emergent control of actively growing lawn burweed (spurweed, stickerweed, sandbur, sanbur, and sandspur) but will not offer any pre emergent control to prevent sandbur from germinating. When using Tenacity for post emergent control of weeds, a Non Ionic Surfactant is needed.

    Q
Will Tenacity Herbicide lose effectiveness if allowed to freeze in the original container?
    A

If Tenacity Herbicide or any herbicide is exposed to extreme freezing or heat temperatures, the concentrate can and would lose efficacy. When stored in cool dry and temperature controlled environments, the shelf life is 3-5 years.

  • Asked by Edison

    Q
Will Tenacity Herbicide kill woodsorrel in St. Augustine lawns?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide cannot be used on residential St Augustine lawns and will not eliminate woodsorrel.

To control woodsorrel (also known as oxalis) in a St Augustine lawn, you could use a product like Hi Yield Atrazine, or Fertilome Weed Free Zone.

    • Please note, Fertilome Weed Free Zone is not recommend to be used on Floratam or Bitterblue varieties of St Augustine unless discoloration and temporary injury can be tolerated. Other species of St Augustine would be safe if used at labeled rates.

It is recommended to apply a pre emergent like Pendulum 2G in Fall and Spring. (55 degrees in the Spring / Between 70 and 55 degrees in the Fall). Pre emergents prevent weeds from germinating which will help cut down on the amount of post emergents needed during growing seasons.

  • Asked by Anna from Canada
    10/08/2022
    Q
Can Tenacity be applied if the grass is slightly wet from cooler temps and dew or does it need to be completely dry? This is for a second application to control bentgrass (Zone 5b) and the day/evening temps are much cooler.
    A

It would be best to wait to apply Tenacity Herbicide until the grass has completely dried before the application. Be sure to mix in a Non Ionic Surfactant when doing post emergent applications.

  • Asked by Whit from Spring Hill, Tn
    10/08/2022
    Q
What is the mix rate for Tenacity in a 2 gallon sprayer to control poa annua? Treating 7,000 sq ft. One application of Tenacity was done on 8/29 and then overseeded on 9/23.
I applied a broadcast application of tenacity on 8/29 in TN. I have approximately 7000 square feet. I put out the spot treatment formula instead of broadcast formula so I don't think I put out enough. I overseeded on 9/23. I have a 2 gallon sprayer. How much tenacity do I put into the sprayer with 2 gallons of water? Math is hard:). My goal is to control poa annua. I plan on putting out dimension as well in a few weeks.
    A

Tenacity Herbicide can be applied at the same time as seeding (unless grass is more than 20% stand of fine fescue). If application cannot be done within 7 days of seeding you would need to wait a minimum of 30 days, or until the seed has emerged and been mowed at least twice before applying to the lawn.
According to the Tenacity product label, you will need to mix 1 tsp of product + 3 tsp surfactant with 2 gallons of water for spot treatments applied at a rate of 1 gallon per 1,000 sq ft. It is advised to use a dye like Turf Mark Blue with it so you can make sure to not overlap if you plan to do a broadcast application on the property. Repeat applications can be done after two to three weeks for continued post emergent weed control.

    Q
Will tenacity kill nut grass in my garden?
    A

No, Tenacity Herbicide should only be applied to the turf grasses listed on the product label.  For nutsedge in landscaped areas it is recommended  to spot treat the sedge with a glyphosate or Round Up type product directly.  We recommend Roundup QuickPro 1.5 oz. packs for ease of use.

  • Asked by Lawrence from Wilmington, Il.

    Q
Why do you not want to use a hose end sprayer while applying Tenacity Herbicide?
    A

It is not recommended to use a hose-end sprayer to treat your lawn with Tenacity Herbicide or any other herbicide. The problem with using hose-end sprayers is that they are not very accurate, and you can wind up dispensing more or less product than recommended per area. This can lead to less than desirable results.
