    Q
Can Tenacity Herbicide be used on Zoysia to treat creeping charlie and yellow thistle for pre and post emergent applicatons?
    A

No, Tenacity Herbicide is not labeled for use on Zoysia and could potentially cause damage or injure the lawn. Unfortuanately, there is not a pre emergent currently on the market for creeping charlie and nutsege therefore the best method of control will be to use a post emergent when the weeds are actively growing. Dimension 2EW is a great choice for pre-emergent control for over 200 broadleaf and grassy weeds.

Blindside Herbicide is a post emergent labeled to contol activily growing weeds such as creeping charlie (ground ivy) purple and yellow nutsege, crabgrass, dandelion, etc.  The mix rate for Zoysia is 0.15 - 0.23 oz per 1000 sq ft (6.5 - 10 oz / per acre) .

    Q
How much Tenacity Herbicide do you mix with 25 gals of water?
    A

The rate for Tenacity Herbicide is 4 fl to 8 fl oz / acre depending on the type of turfgrass you have. Please refer to the chart on page 8 of the produt label for your turfgrass and the recommended rate.

Spot Applications of Tenacity are applied at 1 tsp Tenacity + 3 tsp Non Ionic Surfactant per 2 gallons of water (apply at 1 gallon per 1000 sq. ft.)

    Q
Should product only be used during seeding growing months (spring/fall)?
Have had success with Tenacity in killing weeds, however weeds do grow back. Are you supposed to skip using the product during the summer, because you're likely unable to grow new seed until the fall? It seems like an on-going battle with the weeds, and curious if you're supposed to go after the weeds when you're able to replace it with grass. Otherwise you're wasting your time.
    A

When applying Tenacity Herbicide for pre emergent contol of the listed weeds, temperatures should be around 55 – 65 degrees consecutively for 4-5 days. For Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue, Tenacity is able to be applied before, at the same time or directly after seeding and will not inhibit grass seeds from germinating.

Also, refer to the Weeds Controlled Chart on page 9 of the product label for the specific weeds you are targeting to see if they are marked as Supppressed, Controlled or Both when using Tenacity. It is possible that the weeds you are targeting are not suppressed with pre emergent applications and only controlled as a post emergent.

If applying as a post emergent with a Non Ionic Surfactant when weeds are actively growing, you would need to wait at least four weeks or until the new grass has been mowed twice, whichever is longer.

The key time to avoid spraying Tenacity on new seedings, either as a pre-emergent or a post-emergent, would be when the new seedlings have started to come up but are not yet established.  Please refer to page 12 of the label for complete application instructions around seeding.

    Q
Is there something I can do to revive the zoysia grass that was sprayed with Tenacity?
    A

There may not be any options for reviving the turf that was damaged by Tenacity Herbicide. You can apply a lot of water to the treated areas but you may need to reseed or resod the injured areas eventually that died out from the application (this can take weeks depending on the date of application).

    Q
Can Tenacity Herbicide be used with Battleship III?
My lawn care service uses Battleship III when applying fertilization applications. Can this be used in conjunction, because it is clearly not working for clover and crab grass in the lawn.
    A

Battleship III is only for controlling broadleaf weeds and will not effect crabgrass or other grassy weeds at all.  The label does not mention tank mixing with herbicides like Tenacity only fertilizers so we would not recommend doing so.

    Q
I have 10 acres of pasture, full of velvet grass. I want to spray all of it. Can I get a bigger container of Tenacity Herbicide?
    A

Unfortunately Tenacity Herbicide is only sold in the 8 oz size and is not labeled to be used on pastures at all so not recommended.

    Q
Can I use Tenacity Herbicide to get rid of vine type of ivy growing in juniper or do you have another recommendation?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is not listed to control any type of vines not can it be used over juniper. We would recommend carefully treating using a non selective such as Roundup directly to the vine. This is best done if the vine is cut and applied directly using a small paint brush to the fresh cut surface.  Or hand pulling is the other option.

Recommendations for using 50 gal. tow behind sprayer.
    I am not spot spraying.
    A
Please refer to the tale on page 8 of the product label for Tenacity Herbicide, and use the rates specified for your grass type.  When applying this product, the amount of water is not as important as the following the labeled product rates.  You will need to use as much water for your application that it takes to distribute the product evenly to the area being treated.

    Q
Accidental spray from Tenacity Herbicide hit plants in garden
My tomato plants are starting to turn white at the tips just like the weeds. I understand the plants will probably die sooner than I'd like. However, any idea if the tomatoes or watermelon will be safe to eat before it all dies? Will the edibles absorb the herbicide and cause sickness if eaten?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is not labeled for use on edible vegetation, and we would not recommend eating any fruits or vegetables from plants that have been contacted by the product for at least the growing season.  You can also contact the manufacturer Syngenta for further clarification and product support by calling 1-800-334-9481, or by visiting their website's contact page here.

    Q
Is it ok to overseed 2 or 3 weeks after spraying Tenacity Herbicide?
    A

Yes you can overseed 2-3 weeks after application of Tenacity Herbicide.  You will want to wait until the target plants have died, so you can rake out the dead plant matter. You then can overseed anytime thereafter.

    Q
Over applied an application of Tenacity in late spring to my St. Augustine lawn and now the turfgrass is not growing in those areas. Is there a product I can apply to the soil to encourage the St. Augustine to grow.
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is not labeled for use on St Augustine home lawns, it is only labeled to be used on St Augustine grown for sod aka commercially grown. Unfortunately, the only way to reduce the effects of an herbicide would be to use an activated charcoal immediately after applying (within hours).

For additional information, please contact the manufacturer at 866.796.4368 since the application was off label

    Q
Will Tenacity kill creeping bentgrass through the roots up or only from the foliage down through the grass? Treated 4 times at the 5 oz rate in shaded area and bentgrass has shown signs of dying off.
    A

Tenacity Herbicide should be used with a Non Ionic Surfactant and per the product label, better results are achieved in late summer early fall applications just prior to onset on renewed bentgrass growth than spring/summer applications.

  • Asked by Shuang from Scotch Plains, Nj

    Q
Can Tenacity Herbicide be used to treat poa annua, clover, etc in my lawn that is a mix of bermuda and fescue? Wanting the best and most effective weed killer for my needs?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is labeled safe for fescue lawns however can ONLY be applied to bermuda turfgrass when it is dormant without the risk of injury. Tenacity can be used for pre and post emergent (with Non Ionic Surfactant) control of clover but will only suppress poa annua, it will not fully control it.

Since poa annua and cool season grasses are so closely related, there are few products that will kill the poa annua without also harming the lawn. For Poa Annua in cool season turfgrasses, we recommend a spot-treat with a Roundup-type product and then reseed with the desirable grass type in those areas.

Applying a pre emergent like Pendulum 2G or Dimension 2EW in late fall and early spring to prevent weeds like poa annua, clover, crabgrass, and many other grassy and broadleaf weeds from germinating is also helpful.

Please view our Lawn Care Schedule Calendar for more information.

    Q
Does the ground need to be dry before applying Tenacity to treat veronica speedwell, clover, & crabgrass? Is mowing recommended before or after spraying? Will this also harm my Elm Tree that is the focal point of my front lawn?
    A

Tenacity should be mixed with a Non Ionic Surfactant for post emergent applications to actively growing weeds. Mowing should be delayed 2 days before or 2 days after the application for best results.

For treatments around the Elm Tree, the product label states to avoid applications over the top of exposed roots of trees and ornamentals. It is best to keep herbicide applications outside the dripline of the trees if possible but if necessary, carefully spot treat the weeds themselves and do not broadcast under the canopy.

Please review the full product label for more information and complete application instructions.

    Q
Can I fertilize with iron the same time I spray Tenacity Herbicide?
    A

There should be no issues applying Tenacity around the same time as a fertilizer as long the label on the fertilizer does not state that it cannot be used with herbicides.

  • Asked by Geoffrey from Liverpool, New York
    08/18/2021
    Q
How soon can apply Tenacity Herbicide after/between rainfall?
I live in upstate NY (Liverpool). We've gotten a bunch of rain Lately. I installed a roll of turf 3 weeks ago and it has established itself well. I unfortunately there is a about a 1-foot square section of crabgrass immediately next to it. My questions: How soon can apply after/between rainfall events? Can I apply tenacity to this area where newish turf and crabgrass meet? I also have pathed a few spots around the awn where I placed soil and seed. I have new grass that appears ready for mowing and some areas that have just started sprouting. I plan to avoid these patches until they are mowed a couple times. Any advice about these would be greatly appreciated.
    A

As stated on the product label of Tenacity, this product should be applied when there is no rain in the forecast for at least 48 hours. "If rainfall (0.15 inches) has not occurred within 10 days after preemergence application, activate with 0.15 inches of irrigation." This product can be applied to established, tolerable turf types.

Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.
