Pros and cons
By Michelle on 09/15/2023
Excellent product. Used it for the first time this year and my yard looked amazing. Getting the product in a timely manner was frustrating. Twice had a failed delivery due to damage caused leakage. Company blamed shipper. Shipper blamed company. I really don't care who was at fault. Just package it well enough that it gets to the customer the first time.

Results aren't immediate, but effective
By Sandi on 10/06/2023
Together with the High Yield Sticker solution, Tenacity herbicide very effectively killed crab grass with one application. It wasn't immediate, 3 days after application, I wondered if it would work. One wk after application it was very evident, the crabgrass was dieing. The quackgrass however is requiring a 2nd application and maybe even a third in the spring. But no worries there is plenty product in both bottles. Did it spare the grass ? I can't tell, because the quackgrass choked pretty much all of that out.
Might need higher rate
By Joe on 10/12/2023
I have a large amount of barnyard grass in my cool season lawn. Everyone says to use a half a teaspoon per gallon because that's what's on the syringe. After three applications, spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart, I still have all my barnyard grass. To be fair, my first application may have gotten above 80° on a few days which is not recommended. My second application seemed perfect, yet nothing really died. Third application seems about like the previous. Grass gets sick, but does not die. I noticed the label says to use 4 to 8 ounces per 30 gallons of water. If I take the midpoint of 6 ounces per 30 gallons that's over 1 teaspoon per gallon, double what the syringe says. Has anyone shot it at a 1 teaspoon per gallon rate? I don't want to give up on Tenacity quite yet. I used surfactant of course too.
Expert response:
We are sorry to hear Tenacity did not work as expected. Barnyard grass can require a combination of both pre-emergent and post emergent control as well keeping up with overall healthy lawn care. Tenacity works best on newly emerged young weeds more than on mature grassy weeds so timing can be key for post emergent control.

No damage to lawn and killed the henbit
By Rob on 03/15/2024
Strong southern winds seem to bring in the henbit and dandelions every year - more than the pre-emergent I use (Prodiamine) can handle. My lawn is cool season fescue and bluegrass mix, and after spraying with Tenacity (Mesotrione) the henbit and dandelion population has turned white and the lawn is in great shape. In the past, spot spraying with a dose of weed be gone took several applications for results, this took one application. I used a backpack sprayer with a combination of Tenacity, surfactant, and some bio-stimulants. I've used this for two seasons now, great results!

Tenacity Herbicide

Bought this to get rid of the crabgrass/goosegrass that had taken over my yard. Have tried other products that did nothing. This was a last hope. It took about 2-3 weeks to see any effect, but the targeted weeds have finally started to yellow. Will have to wait to see if it kills them off. A second application may be needed, but if it gets rid of these weeds it will definitely be worth it.
Crabgrass turned yellow and dying
By Debbie on 04/05/2024
Hey. I sprayed the combo of stuff on a side yard that had crab grass, dormant Bermuda, and fescue. It took over a week to notice any changes....long enough to think it didn't work. But then I started to see a yellowing of some of the blades. That has continued. Now I am seeing a few of the yellow blades turn white. I'm waiting for the whole cycle to complete before I spray the whole front yard. Sadly I purchased fescue seed contaminated with the crabgrass so my once beautiful lawn is going to look terrible for a while. But thank to this product I don't have to pull up the crabgrass.

Last year I put Tenacity on an area that had a lot of Creeping Charley. The mix was left over from the year before but I put it on anyway and after a few months nothing happened. I went to mow the lawn last week and there was no CC. Almost surrealistic how it worked.

Tenacity works
By Gary on 04/19/2024
Well fellas I had the great idea to skip pre emerge to see if I really needed it. Unfortunately the clover and crabgrass loved this. It grew everywhere. Saw this product on you tube video. Bought the surfactant and die also. It killed all the weeds with a vengeance. Only thing you have to be patient. 1st week the weeds just laughed. 2nd week the weeds began looking like it got their attention. By third week they turned white and were dead. Now Bermuda grass coming up and weeds are no longer a problem.

This stuff just works.

I use this Tenacity to control undesirable weeds and wide bladed grass in my tall fescue lawn. I mix 1 bottle to 30 gallons in my tow behind sprayer. I apply it when my Forsythia bush blooms ( I planted just for that purpose). Bad grass and weeds turn solid white, some fescue takes a whitish tint. Bad grass/weeds die but fescue makes a recovery. Takes about 7 to 10 days to begin to see the effect but this stuff just works.

Weeds seem to start recovering after about 10 days. If you wait 3 weeks the weeds will be mostly recovered. Even 2 weeks seems too long for a follow up app. This stuff really uglies up the lawn for quite a while too. The best thing about it, is it highlights problems so you can zap them with something else that works better. For example, it highlights crabgrass so you can zap it with XLR8 or something better. If it's something that not much else treats, like nimblewill, it probably needs to be reapplied more frequently than suggested.

The only thing I have used that kills actively growing crabgrass and I have tried almost everything on the market. I bought this house in the woods about 4 years ago. I have no illusions of having a golf course type lawn but I am not growing weeds and Tenacity is another item to use in my battle against weeds.
