    Q
I have a horrible thief ant problem. What will kill them? HELP
I have tried Maxforce FC bait stations, Combat Source Kill bait stations, and Terro, Borax, and Boric Acid mixed with peanut butter (to attract them). I'm tried of wasting money and time on products that don't work. What would be your top suggestion for thief ants? They do (and only ever) prefer proteins. (Sorry if this is a repeat submission, there was an error and I was unsure if the last question was submitted).
    A
If the ants are not taking the Maxforce bait we would recommend to use advance 375A as it is a protien based bait. You could also instead use Termidor SC. Termidor is a non repellent and thus when the foraging ants come in contact with it they will transfer the active ingredient back to the colony and it will cause a domino killing effect. Termidor is mixed at a rate of .80 fl oz. to one gallon of water in a pump sprayer and sprayed around the outside foundation of the home. For example, you would spray 1 foot up the foundation of your home, and 1 foot out onto the ground.  The treatment will last about 4-6  months, and will then need to be reapplied. Th

Can you spray Termidor SC in the attic for carpenter ants? I believe I have a sub colony in the attic.

Termidor SC is not labeled to be used inside for ants at all.  For inside control of carpenter ants it would be best to use our Carpenter Ant Kit.

    Q
Will Termidor SC work for Florida carpenter ants and other carpenter ants?
Are both attracted to the same baits? Florida carpenters seem more finicky-can't get them to take baits.
    A

Carpenter ants in FL would be the same as carpenter ants in other regions of the country. We generally recommend using Termidor SC outdoors around the perimeter of your home. This is labeled to be used every six months outdoors.

What types of bait are you using? We would be happy to make another recommendation if you have been using them for a while.

    Q
Would we use Termidor SC to treat an old nesting sight and very minimal termite damage?
    A
We recommend that you apply a termiticide in a trench and drilled holes around the perimeter of your home to provide a barrier that will last up to 10 years in the soil. It will eradicate the termites in as little as 90 days depending on the size of the colony or colonies. If you plan to treat the home yourself, we recommend that you get the meausrements (lineal footage) and read the How to Perform a Termite Treatment Article.

    Q
I have seen a couple of Termite swarmers. Is it time to panic and use Termidor SC?
Killed a couple of "swarmers" in a window sill yesterday, first I've seen of them. Trying not to panic. Haven't done a thorough investigation, but quick glance doesn't turn up any mud tubes, etc. Should I dive into using Termidor SC to treat the perimeter of the house?
    A

There is no need to panic. We would recommend using Termidor which is one of the best termiticides on the market and is the treatment of choice with professional companies.  For the activity you have inside, you would drill a hole or tear out a piece of sheetrock and treat directly into the wall void with some Termidor in a one gallon sprayer.  For the outside treatment, you would apply Termidor around the perimeter of the structure according to the guidelines in our "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article. This is the best way to protect your home.

    Q
How wet do I spray Termidor SC: just fog it or real wet?
    A

When apply Termidor SC as a perimeter spray, apply at a rate of 1.5 gallons of solution per 1,000 square feet, using 0.8 ounces of concentrate per gallon of water. You should spray to evenly cover with a low-pressure coarse spray, so you do not need to drench the areas you are treating. Termidor SC should be used in a pressurized sprayer, not in any type of fogging or misting machine. For general perimeter treatments with Termidor SC, see the last two pages of the product label.

    Q
How do I apply Termidor SC against black widow and brown recluse spiders?
We found black widow and brown recluse in our garage, how to I apply Termidor SC in order to be effective? Do I spray around the walls and corners or is there another way?
    A

Termidor SC may be used outdoors only for spider control, per the product label. We do have a great Spider Control Kit that includes CB-80 Aerosol Insecticide for contact spraying, and Temprid SC, which can be applied indoors as a crack and crevice or spot treatment. This kit also contains glue boards, which are excellent tools for monitoring and for catching stray spiders indoors. Please see our Spider Treatment Article for more information and tips about preventing spider infestations.

    Q
I treated my house 2 years ago with Termidor Sc and now I am seeing what looks to be dry wood termites, Why?
I saw the Formosan termites at the end of May and through June, but now I see something different. I treated my house per directions and it still looks like I have a problem. What should I do? What should I use?
    A

Drywood termites are all contained in a piece of wood.  They do not go back to the ground like subterranean termites. So if you did a trench with Termidor it will not treat the Dry wood termites. Please see our Drywood Termite Control Page.

    Q
Termite tubes are back twice in 3 years since professional service
Termite tubes are back twice in 3 years since professional install, The first time was in laundry room ceiling which is just inside the garage in the front of the house. - they foamed that area and it seems fine now. Now there is one tube coming up from the center expansion joint if the garage. No sighs of any tubes on any interior of exterior walls any part of the house. If this is one spot is in the center expansion joint in the garage (don't know yet) what should te be addressing. At minimum drilling inside the garage and trenching the outside. Maybe drilling center of expansion joint?- they won't re-do the whole house, just the affected area. which seems to be the front. I'm probably going to trench treat the rest of my exterior
    A

If that expansion joint is the only area of activity and Termidor SC was used for the initial treatment, most professionals would just treat that area of localized activity. It is possible the termites there came from a colony deep under the soil surface where they would not have come into contact with the existing liquid barrier. You would treat the expansion joint similarly to how you would treat the foundation, using 4 gallons of solution per 10 linear feet, applying evenly into drilled holes. Instead of placing the holes all on one side, however, you would drill them in a zig-zag pattern along the expansion joint. Please let us know if you have further questions.

    Q
Why do you have to put Termidor SC in a trench?
    A

Termidor SC should be applied in a trench and drilled holes to provide a barrier around the structure where the termites can gain access. They travel beneath the soil so this application is necessary for eradication and protection.

    Q
What pump or tool would you recommend to use for interior drywall injection for spot treatment of Termidor SC?
I'm looking for a pump with an injection needle on a budget.
    A

Professionals would use a sprayer with a crack and crevice straw or termite injection tip to apply Termidor SC into drywall areas, such as that of the B&G AccuSpray with Termite Injection Tip. Keep in mind that you will only apply Termidor in wall voids where there are active termites. An easier way to spot treat would be with a ready-to-use product that comes with a tube and injection tip such as Termidor Foam. You would drill into the infested wood and apply the product directly into the termite gallery. Please see our Termite Treatment Article for more information.

Is Termidor SC good for wood boring beetles?

    Q
How do I apply Termidor SC before pouring a tension slab with piers and beams?
I will be pouring a post tension slab with piers and beams and want to pre treat for termites. Where should I apply the Termidor SC? I'm thinking around all the plumbing penetrations & the 2' deep exterior footer. Before the concrete is poured a plastic sheeting will be put down, do you apply the Termidor before the plastic is put down or can you apply it on top of the plastic?
    A

Termidor SC should be applied directly to the soil. It is recommended that you treat around each pier. You will mix at a rate of .80 fl oz. for each gallon of water used. Each 20 oz bottle will make 25 gallons of solution and treats 60 lineal feet of trenching. You could also treat the wood directly with Boracare. You will use a 5:1 ratio. This will last for the life of the wood.

We would also recommend that you check out our Termite Guide. It has very useful information and tips on how to treat and prevent termites.
