    Q
Do household pets need to be removed from the premises when Advance 375A has been spread about the home?
    A

Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait when applied properly is too small of an amount to harm an animal as large as a pet.  You should keep the container of the granule in a safe place as you would any other cleaning solution or product.  Keep in mind this product is only 0.011 per cent active ingredient and the remaining 99.989% is food products that attracts the ants to eat it, so it would take a large amount of this product, almost the whole jug for an animal to get sick.

    Q
Which Advance product is best for carpenter ants, Advance Carpenter Ant Bait or Advance 375A Select?
Same active ingredient, at exactly the same concentration, but different labels. Both are labeled for use as bait for carpenter ants. So, I am puzzled by the overlap between these two very similar Advance products.
    A
The manufacturer (of the Advance ant baits) has recognized a need to have a product that is specifically labeled and formulated for carpenter ants. The Advance Carpenter Ant Bait has granules that are perfectly sized for this type of ant and the bait matrix itself is slightly different to be more attractive to this species even though the active ingredient is the same.

    A
Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait is not rendered useless if it gets rained on but the bait may be washed away with rain or begin to mold if it stays moist too long.

    Q
Deltagard doesn't seem to effect ant colonies. Is there another product that works better?
I'm a repeat customer and enjoy using your products, as they all seem to work well when used correctly. Part of my regimen consists of applying Deltagard to my lawn outside, although it controls roaches and other bugs I still see ants nests all over the yard in fact they increase in amounts. I find myself having to sprinkle some delta dust to get rid of them. Do you have anything specifically for preventing red and black ants making nests in my yard? Thanks.
    A
Insecticide granules like DeltaGard do a great jobs on most insects.  However, since ant colonies are underground and so is the queen, in order to eliminate the ant colony you need to get a product down underground where the queen and other members are that don't normally leave the colony.  The insecticide granules like DeltaGard only kill the worker ants that walk on top of the ground and look for food.  While the product is killing some of the ants, the queen and rest of the colony is still thriving underground.  It is recommended to use an ant bait granular bait for your issue.  Instead of killing the ants, bait granular is a food the ants pick up and take back to the colony like any other food.  They end up passing the food around, the bait, and the poison ends up being fed to the queen and all of the other colony members that do not normally go outside.  This method should kill the entire colony, not just the workers that walk on the surface.  Our most popular ant bait is Advance 375A.  You should not apply any more insecticide like DeltaGard while using bait because you don't want to kill the ants before they make it back with the bait.  Apply the bait when it is not going to rain for a couple days if you can help it.  You should try to let the bait remain dry as long as possible.

    Q
Should I be concerned that pets, squirrels and birds eat insects that consume Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait?
Thinking of using both around house and some areas in yard.
    A

When Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait is applied correctly, it will not harm children or pets. Pets can be attracted to the granules but if they are applied correctly the pets should not be able to eat enough of them for it to be harmful.  You are supposed to broadcast this product outside meaning you will be placing very small amounts in grass, mulch, etc.  A pet would have to consume a large quantity of this product, meaning they would have to get into the container and consume a large amount to get sick. Insects consume and digest a small amount so wildlife would have to consume a large amount to be harmed.

What is the best way to control western thatching ants?
What products would you recommend for controlling a large exterior population of these ants on wooded acreage? Including large mounds of the ants.
    A
Many of our customers have had success with broadcasting Advance 375A in the yard over and around the mounds and then applying Termidor as a liquid treatment around the perimeter.  Termidor is our best selling ant control product.

    Q
Does Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait lose effectiveness after sitting out for a few days?
I have been using this bait and initially the ants took it and it really improved my ant problem but now it seems they walk around the bait in one of the more troublesome areas.
    A

Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait would only be less attractive to ants if it gets wet.  The issue with ants is that their nutritional needs can change daily and this is a fat/protein based bait.  It is highly recommended to also use Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel which is a sugar bait.  You should always give ants a choice as they may be in the mood for either a protein (granule) or a sugar (gel) bait.  Continue to bait as long as you see activity.

    Q
I purhased Advance 375A for ants. Now flies are attracted to it. Will it kill or feed them?
I have hundreds of them sitting on my patio and they're eating the granules. What do I do?
    A
The flies are attracted to the ant bait as most of the ingredients in the bait are food based to help attract the ants. It's normal for the flies to be attracted to it and any fly that consumes some of the granule will most likely die from the poinson built in. To try and deter the flies from the ant bait, you could use a specifically formulated fly bait like our Maxforce Granular Fly Bait. It attracts the flies not only through food but with a sexual pheromone as well. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Does Advance 375A contaminate well water?
If we used this product around our premises would it contaminate the ground/well water?
    A

Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait should not be applied directly to water or areas where surface water is present. It is not an insecticide that translocates throught the soil but if there's a chance of wind blowing it into the well, then you can use bait stations like the Ants No More Bait Stations to keep it in place.

    Q
I have an infestation of big headed ants as well as my neighbors. What product would you recommend?
My exterminator has sprayed several times?
    A
Insecticide granules such as Bifen granules would be a good choice to help control the population of big headed ants as it will last for 3-4 months. Bifen Granules will kill ants that venture on to treated areas.  Another great choice would be to use Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait. This bait is also labeled for big headed ants specifically and would be a great choice for your use. Extinguish Plus combines the power of hydramethylnon with an insect growth regulator (like birth control for ants) to kill big headed ant workers and prevent queens from laying fertile eggs. This product would kill the ants that picked up the bait and also kill the ants back at the colony

    Q
What should I get for removal of carpenter, fire and pavement ants ?
    A
Advance 375A Ant Bait granule is labeled for carpenter ants, fire ants and pavement ants. Advion Ant bait gel is also labeled for the 3 ant species you indicated. The granular product should be used outdoors and the gel works best indoors. Synthetic pyrethroid insecticides such as Talstar P or Suspend SC can be used to directly treat the nests if you know where they are located.

    Q
What product should we purchase for ant infestation in yard in grass and in walkways and patio areas?
From what I read it looks like the granules would work well on the lawn. I'm wondering what to use on the walkways and paving stone patio areas as well as retaining wall where ants are prevalent and seem to be nesting along the crevices in the wall.
    A

You could use Advance 375A for treatment along trails and the perimeter of your home.

BROADCAST APPLICATION: Use this product at a rate of 8 oz. per 1/2 acre. This is equivalent to approximately 1.8 ounces per 5000 sq. ft., or 0.4 ounces per 1,000 sq. ft. (One tablespoon equals approximately 0.3 oz. of bait.) Apply the product as uniformly as possible. Repeat application as necessary.
AROUND STRUCTURES: Lightly sprinkle the product evenly in a band approximately 1-2 feet wide around the foundation of the building. Treat visible trails with approximately 0.3 to 1 ounce of product depending on the number of ants in the trail. Repeat application as necessary.
INDIVIDUAL COLONY OR MOUND TREATMENT: Use 1.5 to 2.1 ounces of product per mound. Apply the product at the edge of the mound. Repeat application as necessary.

Follow ants back to voids. Apply product to cracks and crevices or voids where ants are active. In heavily traveled sites use up to 1.5 ounces of product. Use a large Centrobulb* puffer or other appropriate application device to place the product into crevices or voids. Repeat application as necessary.

  • Asked by Stanley from Cambridge, Ma

    Q
If I place Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait, how long should time pass until I clean up?
I am placing this near floors and areas of ant activity, and some windows, and to use this I may need to know if I should clean and replace or is it going to last a good time? I am also using with Advion Ant Gel and I know not to have the two close to each other.
    A

We would recommend using the Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait inside of bait plate stations if you are wanting to use indoors. If applied (as directed) outdoors, you can repeat applications as needed (for example, after a rainfall when the ground is dry or if consumed or removed).  You should not remove unless it has obtained moisture or been contaminated. You can replenish in the reusable bait stations.
