    Q
Will it be ok if I add a drop of honey to the Advance 375A Granular Bait?
The carpenter ants have avoided the baits on my kitchen counter for two days now (containing Advance 375A)
    A

Baiting will take time and ants (including Carpenter Ants) will change their nutritional needs periodically throughout the year. You may want to incorporate the Maxforce FC Carpenter Ant Bait Gel if they are foraging for something sweet, rather than trying to add to an existing granule bait. We do not suggest baiting on countertops. We recommend applying the baits in our Bait Plate Stations. For more information on a successful treatment program, please review our How to Get Rid of Carpenter Ants article for additional tips on eradication.

    Q
What should I do if I have ants that are not taking MaxForce FC Ant Bait Gel or Advance Ant Bait Granules?
The baits appear to have helped with larger, Carpenter Ants, but very small black ants do not seem to be attracted to it. I am again spraying periodic insecticides because there are so many small ones..
    A
Be sure to never spray insecticides where you are placing baits. Most insecticides are somewhat repellent and will contaminate the bait causing bait avoidance. There are certain types of ants that do not readily accept baits because they make their own food. We recommend that you get the small ants identified to see if this may be your problem. You can contact an entomologist through your local cooperative extension office to get an insect identification. If you do have a species of ant that doesn't accept bait you can always use a product such as Termidor SC. Termidor SC is a non-repellent product that is picked up on the fine hairs of an ants body and then inadvertently spread through the ant colony by normal social interaction. Most people notice that the entire ant infestation is gone in 1-3 weeks. The only downside to Termidor SC is that it is an outdoor only product. If you need to treat indoors you can use Phantom. Phantom is a lot like the Termidor but it does take a little bit longer to see results and it can be used indoors.

    Q
What can I use on Argentine ants around a lake?
Have trillions of ants around lake. Says I can't use Termidor SC within 15 feet of lake. HELP.
    A
You are right, Termidor SC cannot be used close to a lake. In fact, Termidor SC can only be used on or immediately adjacent to a structure and should not be used at all out in the yard for ant control according to the product label. Your best bet for controlling the Argentine ants by a lake would  be to use ant baits placed in ant bait stations. Advance 375A Ant Bait Granules and Gourmet Liquid ant bait can be used in the Ant No More Bait Stations. By using two different kinds of bait at once you can be sure you are offering at least one bait that they will readily accept. The Ant No More bait station will help protect the baits from non-target animals, weather and will prevent the bait from entering the lake.

    Q
Does Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait work on crazy ants?
I have severals mound in my backyard and front yard. I took an ant sample to a local pest control place and they said I had fire ants and caribbean crazy ants. Should I use this product or would the Maxforce or Invict Blitz ant bait granules work better? I don't know which one to choose.
    A
InVict Blitz would actually be the better choice as it is specifically designed for crazy ants.  We also have a great article here that can help in treatment.

    Q
I would like to know if Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait can be used in a vegetable garden?
    A

The only way you can use Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait in a vegetable garden is if you place the granules in a bait plate station so that the granules do not come into contact with the plants. You can also sprinkle the granules around the outside perimeter of the garden.

    Q
Treating ants on my fig tree?
Is there a safe organic way of treating the figs on tree prior to ripening completely that will allow them to be eaten safely? I have over 200 figs still green and the size of a quarter on a 8 ft. honey fig tree.
    A
We would suggest using something like Fertilome Horticultural Oil RTS. This product can be used up until the day of harvest. It is close to harvest you want to use an oil based like mineral or neem oil based products. You  may also want to consult the master gardener in your area at Your Local Cooperative Extension Office.

    Q
Is it safe to use the Advanced ant bait around a raised bed organic garden if the colony is in the garden pot?
I was told that I could use the Advanced ant bait around the outside of the garden pots even though it's an organic garden. My concern is that the the colony is inside the pot, around the roots. So the bait would end up in the pot with the plants even if I don't sprinkle it on the dirt of the pot. How can this still be safe?
    A

We would would using the Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait inside of bait plate stations if you are wanting to use this around your garden. If they are placed carefully inside of your garden or around it, this is safe for use in the area.

  • Asked by Tom from Palm Coast, Fl

    Q
Is Advance 375A Select Granular Bait effective for an indoor problem with Ghost Ants?
Ghost Ants is what our former pesticide company called them. All we seem to do is move them from one spot to another. What do you recommend to use to get rid of them and keep them outside. FL home.
    A

The most effective way to get rid of ants will be to use a product that will not only kill the ants that actually come into contact with treated surfaces but will also be transferred back to the nest. There are a variety of liquid concentrates that work with a transfer effect such as Termidor SCTaurus SCDominion 2L and Adonis 2F. All of these products are for use outdoors only and should be sprayed directly on or immediately adjacent to the structure for ant control (they cannot be used indoors and they cannot be broadcast sprayed outdoors and they cannot be used on edible vegetation). You can also use ant baits indoors and outdoors for ghost ant control. Ant Baits will be picked up by the foraging ants and carried back to the nesting area and shared. Most folks choose to use a combination of products. They use ant baits indoors and in sensitive areas and they use the liquid concentrates outdoors.

    Q
Will the Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait work for odorous house ants?
I have used this for odorous house ants but they still seem to be around even after I have seen them take it. Also, it seems that after they take it once they learn and won't take it a second time.
    A

Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait is labeled to kill odorous house ants but they have to be actively foraging for a protein based food source. Ant control can take time because ant colonies can be large, the important thing is to stay on top of your treatment. We recommend reviewing the article for further tips and info.

    Q
Since Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait uses the same active ingredient as Avert Dry Flowable Roach Bait, can this be used to treat German Roaches?
    A

Even though Avert Dry Flowable Roach Bait uses the same active ingredient as Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait, the bait matrix and food attractants are comletely different. Roach Baits will not attract or be effective as an ant baits and vice versa.

Advion Insect Granular Bait Insecticide or Maxforce Complete Granular bait are alternative granule baits that are labeled for roaches, ants and other insects.
