    Q
Will Bifen IT kill Box elder bugs? Do you have to spray it directly on the bugs to kill them?
    A

Bifen IT will help control boxelder bugs. You want to mix at 1oz Bifen IT per gallon water. Bifen IT will kill the Boxelder bugs after they come in contact with the treated area. Depending on what stage they are in the life cycle will determine how long it will take to kill them. The residual of Bifen IT can be up to 2 months, but it is best to reapply every 30 days.

    Q
At our lake house we have a problem with ticks (outside). I also have two Labs that also like to go to the
like to go to the lake. Bifin was recommended to me by a friend. May questions are 1. Is this a good product for ticks. 2. Is the liquid or granular more effective. 3. I read on the liquid that it is safe for animals after it dries--what if it rains and the grass is wait? Not sure how much you know about dogs but they will from time to time "self medicate" by eating certain grasses--is that a problem?
    A
Bifen IT would be a good choice for tick control. We would recommend the liquid formulation for tick control because you can spray it on tall grasses and bushes where ticks are known to harbor (it is recommended that you spray the entire areas where ticks are known to harbor including the grass). Once Bifen IT is dry it is safe for the dogs to return to the treated area. Once dried, Bifen IT will not reconstitute so there is no need to worry about rain making it unsafe. The very small amount of diluted product a dog might eat if they ate some of the treated grass would be so minimal that it would simply pass through their system without causing any issues.

    Q
Which is better Bifen liquid or Bifen granules to treat 3/4 acre?
    A

The Bifen Granules 25lb bag covers 5-10,000 sq ft per bag (depending on application rate used). The Bifen IT is applied at 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. They are equally effective. It would be more cost effective for the liquid on larger areas.

    Q
Is it safe for me to use Bifen IT for roach control around my chicken coop without harming my chickens?
I have a roach infestation problem around my chicken coop. Will it be safe for me to use the Bifen IT for roach control without worrying about the chickens getting sick or injured when they eat roaches that have been treated with the product?
    A

Bifen IT is labeled to treat for insects in Poultry Houses. Be sure to review the product label prior to treatment. You must make sure your chickens are out of the area while you apply Bifen and then they can return to the area as soon as it is dry.

    Q
Recommended Bifen IT solution mix for fleas (noseeums)??
Been using 1.25 per gallon but no control evident.
    A
You may want to mix in an IGR to breakdown the reproduction cycle. By mixing Nyguard IGR in with the bifen mixture it will prevent the eggs, larvae or nymphs from maturing into reproductive adults thereby controlling future infestations.NyGuard IGR will cause morphological anomalies or changes and disrupt the expected insects' state of development, leading to sterility or death. Nyguard is also great because it is photostable and will withstand the suns UV rays for up to 6 months.

How long will Bifen I/T last once mixed in large quantities?
For example I mixed 50 gallons on water with 50 ounces and it has been raining and it will be 3 days before I am able to use it now. I know poor planning on my part, no real good reason, just need to know how long it will stay good for?
    A
It is recommended that you use any mixture within 24-48 hours. Some manufacturers say it can stay stable up to 7 days but we would prefer you contact Control Solutions to make sure the product will still give you the control you are looking for. Control Solutions:1-281-892-2500

Does Bifen IT really kill roaches inside the house?
    A

Bifen IT is labeled for roaches and can be used indoors. The mixing ratio is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water.

We would recommend using our Roach Control Rotation A Kit. It comes with everything that you will need to do a complete roach treatment. There is enough product to do multiple treatments.

We would also recommend looking at our Roach Guide. There is a lot of information on how to treat and prevent roaches.

  • Asked by Tony from Coshocton Ohio
    06/18/2012
    Q
    Does Bifen IT kill millipedes?
    A

Bifen IT is labeled for millipedes and will kill them when used according to the Bifen IT product label. We recommend using 1 fl oz of Bifen IT per gallon of water for the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual. Millipedes are usually going to frequent areas where there are high levels of moisture. There are some non-chemical things you can do to help make your property less favorable to millipedes:

Step 1) Non chemical Methods of Millipede Control

    Exclusion:

    • Repair cracks, crevices, and gaps around windows, doors, pipes and wires with sealant or caulk
    • Makes sure the screens and door sweeps on windows and doors are tight-fitting

    Eliminate Favorable Conditions:

    • Fix leaky faucets or pipes and dry up wet or damp areas where millipedes thrive
    • Remove outdoor harborages near the home that hold moisture (compost, wood, or leaf piles, etc).
    • Store firewood off the ground at least 20 feet away from the home
    • Water your lawn in the morning so that it will be dry by afternoon
    • Do not over mulch flower beds, since soggy mulch is an ideal harborage for millipedes

  • Asked by Amanda from Lufkin, Texas

    Q
Can Bifen IT be used on animals as a flea and tick dip?
We have several outdoor animals (dogs and cats). And I am wondering if I can use Bifen IT as a dip to get rid of the fleas and ticks and keep them away.
    A
Bifen IT is not labeled for use on animals in any way.  For dogs we would recommend the Permethrin SFR for a flea and tick dip.  You can use it diluted with water as a dip, or a general rub down on their fur for control. Please see the bottom of page 16 of the Product Label for exact mixing rates and how to apply properly to your pet.  For cats, we recommend using something like Petcor Flea spray that can be applied to a towel and then rubbed onto the cat. Petcor will treat flea eggs and flea adults and ticks

  • Asked by John from Gladwin, Mi
    05/25/2018
    Q
Which is better for mosquitoes, Bifen IT or Bifen XTS?
I see that the XTS has a higher amount of 25.1% bifenthrin. I was just wondering if the XTS would be better for the mosquito control. Also I have about a 1 1/2 acre pond is there something better to handle bigger areas of water than those dunk tablets?
    A

Bifen I/T is one of our most popular products for mosquito control.  Bifen XTS is basically the same product, just in a higher concentration, and oil-based instead of water-based. Either sprayer or mister application would be effective with either product as long as the application is thorough.  Oil-based products such as Bifen XTS can stain some surfaces.  This is not usually a concern in most areas outside, but you should use caution when treating around the siding of a home.  Most oil-based products such as Bifen XTS do have a "chemical" odor but it is not especially strong.

Do not spray any bifenthrin product in a way that would contact the pond with direct spray, drift, or runoff.

Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water, so if there are any areas of standing water where you are treating, those should be treated as well with Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide if you prefer not to use BTI Mosquito Dunks.

  • Asked by Rich from Terre Haute, In.
    05/01/2019
    Q
Is Bifen IT good for termite control?
    A

Bifen IT is labeled to treat for termites and lasts for about 5 years in the ground and works as a repellent, killing only those insects that come into contact with the treated area. If you are dealing with subterranean termites, you want to use a product that has a "transfer-kill" effect. Termidor SC or Taurus SC are great products to use to treat termites and prevent them. Termidor Foam can be used for active infestations only. All of the products are non-repellents and transfer back to the colony. Please see our Termite Control Page

    Q
My Bifen IT was exposed to freezing temps. Will that alter its effectiveness?
Forgot to take the container out of my shed over the winter.
    A

It is not recommended to leave any type of chemical in areas where they could freeze or over heat because of the potential for the chemical to break down. According to the manufacturer, as long as the Bifen IT was only exposed to sub freezing temperatures for a short period of time and the product looks exactly the same as before it was exposed, it should be fine.

  • Asked by Drew from Boise
    07/18/2018
    Q
How long does it take for Bifen IT to kill springtails?
So I've treated the perimeter and several 'hot spots' with the IT. I can spray directly over an area with 10s/100s of active springtails, come back 5 mins later, and they're still crawling all over the place. Is that normal. I'm at my wits end with these things. Have also applied the L/T granule and seeing little improvement.
    A

Bifen IT is labeled for springtails and should work well to help you get rid of them.  It does not kill on contact.  The amount of time it takes for a springtail to die after coming into contact with a treated area will depend on a number of factors such as how healthy the springtail is, what stage of life it is in, and how long it spends in contact with a treated surface.  It could take anywhere from a couple of hours up to a full day. Also, keep in mind that if you are not treating the main nest, and only the satellite colony, you are only be temporarily fixing your problem. More will appear as they continue to migrate.  Springtails are attracted to areas that are high in moisture so if there is a moisture issue this will need to be identified and addressed as well. Until the moisture is gone or the main nest is found and eliminated, you will have an ongoing battle with this pest.  You may want to look over our Springtails Treatment Guide for more tips and information.
