While Bifen IT is labeled for mites it is not labeled specifically for rodent mites. The easiest method to control rodent mites that have entered your home is to physically remove them with a vacuum cleaner or wipe them up with a moist cloth. Mites are not automatically killed by a vacuum cleaner so freeze the bag to prevent the mites from crawling back out.
Locating the source and eliminating the hosts and nests is important to prevent further problems with these mites. Nests are usually located in attics, basements, or inside walls. If necessary, trap them with kill traps or glue boards. Spray the dead rat and its nest with a disinfectant. Removing the mite source (dead mice, rats, and abandoned nests) is very important. Unless you remove their source, rat mites will continue to seek human host infesting your house.
It is advisable to wait at least 1-2 days after mowing to apply a product like Bifen IT, or any other chemical treatment application to your lawn, to avoid any unnecessary stress this may potentially cause to your freshly cut lawn.
Bifen IT is labeled for Indian Meal Moths, however, we do not have a product that is labeled to be sprayed in the actual fireplace. You may spray outside edges and surfaces of the fireplace but not inside or in the chimney/flute areas.
Moths are attracted to light sources, including fireplaces therefore it’s a common access point for them to enter the home. An easy way to eliminate Indian Meal Moths in a fireplace would be to simply light a standard to good size fire and let it the fire burn for atleast 20-30 minutes. Heat temps between 120-140 °F is hot enough to kill Indian meal moths. We would recommend reviewing the Indian Meal Moth Treatment Guide for alternative product recommendations and more helpful tips.
While yes, insects can develop a resistance to the same active ingredients with the same modes of action, this usually takes years of exposure to that same chemical to develop a resistance. For a rotation insecticide with Bifen IT when targeting mosquitoes, Temprid FX would be recommended as this contains 2 active ingredients (beta Cyfluthin & Imidacloprid) to help prevent resistance.
View the Temprid FX product label for more information.
For mosquitoes key is to apply to the underside of leaves on trees/bushes which is there the adults lay during the day, as well as shady areas. You would not treat entire areas of the lawn that are in full sun as it is not habitable for them there.
View our Mosquito Treatment Guide for more information on successful treatment program.
Bifen IT can be reapplied every 30 days for most applications outdoors. Mix rates range from 0.18 to 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1000 sq ft of area depending on the insects you are targeting.
Repeat applications should only take place if there are signs of renewed insect activity and must not exceed one application per 7 days.

Bifen IT, Suspend SC, and Tempo SC Ultra should not be mixed together or sprayed within 30 days of one another. This could cause the products to not work as labeled and potentially would be dangerous as you would be overapplying unnecessary products into the environment. Please be sure to review the product labels for more information and complete application instructions. It is a good idea to rotate the products every few applications to prevent any possible resistance issues to the active ingredients.
Bifen IT can be used as a trench method of termites directly around the foundation for Subterranean Termites and will provide a 1 year barrier protection. Application rates for Bifen IT are 1 fl oz per gallon of water using 4 gallons of mixed solution every 10 linear feet in a 6 in x 6 in trench.
For Termite Trench Treatments, a better product would be Taurus SC as this product lasts in the soil for 10 year barrier protection against termites. Taurus SC is applied at 0.8 fl oz per gallon of water with using 4 gallons of mixed solution every 10 linear feet in a 6 in x 6 in trench.
View our Termite Treatment Guide for more information.
Only the applicator should be present during the application of Bifen IT until everything has dried completely and then others can return. You can treat the exterior once monthly and quarterly to interior cracks and crevices.
Bifen I/T is a concentrate that can be used in tank sprayers or hose end sprayers, as long as the hose end unit has a dial to select the correct mix rate. The Bifen Product Label states to use anywhere between 0.5 and 1 oz per gallon of water dependent on the pest you are treating for and severity of the existing population. This means you can choose either of these settings on your dial of your hose end sprayer, and that is the amount of concentrate it will pull and disperse per gallon of water.
People and pets should be kept out of the area until the application of Bifen IT (or any insecticide) has completely dried. This can usually take 1-2 hours. Once dry, it is safe to reenter the area.
A better option than mixing Dominion 2L or another product with Bifen IT would be switching to a different product. Alpine WSG would be a great product to rotate with Bifen IT since it is a different class of active ingredient. Another great option is Temprid FX, which has imidacloprid (which is in Dominion 2L) plus beta-cyfluthrin.
Although Bifen IT is considered a repellent insecticide, it is not a true repellent in that it “repels” insects away. Insects will still be able to contact the treated surfaces and eventually die from through contact of the active ingredient. Bifen IT is included in our Silverfish Kit that you can view HERE.
If wanting a non repellent insecticide, Temprid FX is a dual mode of action inseciticide using 2 active ingredients, one providing a fast kill and then a non repellent residual to go undetected as insects cross the treated areas.
Please view our Silverfish Treatment Guide for more information and product recommendations for a complete treatment program.
Yes, once the application of Bifen IT dries, water will not reactivate the product.
Bifen IT may be applied at the low, medium and high rate of either 0.33 oz./gallon of water for prevention, low level infestations, 0.5 oz./gallon of water for general indoor or outdoor use, or 1.0 oz./gallon of water for severe infestations, less frequent treatments, longer residual, quicker knockdown. You will apply 1 gallon of finished solution every 1,000 square feet when using a hand pump sprayer.
Please refer to the product label for complete application instructions, and use as directed.
Bifen IT is applied at 0.25 fl oz- 0.5 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. NyGuard IGR is mixed at 4ml to 8ml per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft . These two products can be tank mixed in a handpump sprayer, backpack sprayer or mist blower. Fill the tank 1/2 way with water, add the recommended rate for the insecticide/IGR you are using (Bifen IT / NyGuard IGR), shake the solution and then fill the tank the remaining way with water. Tighten pump handle and shake sprayer solution again.
Bifen IT cannot be applied to pet bedding and not recommended for active infestations of fleas/ticks indoors. Bifen IT can be used outdoors for fleas and ticks in lawns, bushes, trees, shrubs and landscape beds.
The Indoor Flea & Tick Kit would be the best treatment for fleas and ticks indoors. The PT Alpine Flea Aerosol can be applied to pet bedding, carpets, rugs and other resting areas. Once dry, it is safe for pets to lay on the bedding.
Bifen IT can be used to treat around potted or containerized plants outdoors.
Bifen IT should be applied once monthly to the lawn or the Bifen L/P Granules once every 2-4 months as directed. Either formulation can be used as long as appropriate rates are used.
