  • Asked by Michael from Long Valley, Nj

    Q
Looking to control deer ticks and mosquitoes in NJ, what are the best products or combinations?
    A

Talstar P would be a great choice for indoor and outdoor tick control. We also recommend adding an insect growth regulator such as Archer IGR to Talstar to stop the ticks from being able to mature while you are trying to eliminate the infestation. You will use 1 oz of Talstar +  1oz of Archer IGR per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft area. Do not make spot applications. Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use more water (not more product) when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. All of your pets should be treated with a product that is specifically labeled for use on pets for tick control.

You can also help by creating a "tick safe zone" in your yard. You should have an area that is at least 9 ft wide between your yard and any wooded area. Trim back trees to allow as much sunlight as possible into your yard. Keep grass as short. Remove as much leaf litter as possible. A clearly defined, well manicured border between your yard and any wooded areas or weedy lots will reduce the chance of ticks infesting your yard.

Talstar P is also very great for treating mosquitoes. You will make sure to apply a monthly exterior treatment (focusing on the undersides fo the tree leaves). The combination of both Talstar and NyGuard IGR is great for mosquito and tick control. Please let us know if you need anything else.

  • Asked by Josh from Houston, Tx
    05/26/2016
    Q
Can you apply Bifen XTS directly to flowers and palm trees to kill ants if the temp is under 85 degrees?
I assume it is ok for the outside temp to be over 85 once the Bifan dries? We have very small black ants (Houston area) that crawl on the flowers which eat holes and turn the buds black. They eventually kill the plants and the plant food with insect killer has not stopped them. Our flowers are freshly planted if that raises a concern.
    A

Bifen XTS should not harm plants when applied at cooler times of the day. It would be better to use a product like Dominion 2L which will not harm flowers and will be transferred back to the ant colony.

  • Asked by Eric from Bainbridge Indiana
    03/20/2012
    Q
What concentration of Bifen XTS should I use against bagworms?
It is spring and hot here in Indiana all ready. I treated at the end of summer last year and I see allot less bags on the trees and plucking is not possible. I want to treat now and again in the middle of summer all most lost my pine trees, 700' of them.
    A
According to the Bifen XTS product label "Dilute 0.26 to 1.28 fl. oz. of Bifen XTS per 10 gallons of water and apply at the rate of 10 gallons per 4,356 square feet. One gallon of finish spray will treat 435 sq. ft." You will want to use the higher usage rate for a faster knockdown and a longer lasting residual.

  • Asked by Beverly from Horseshoe Bay, Tx
    09/03/2017
    Q
Will Bifen XTS also kill dragonflies and ladybugs?
    A

Bifen XTS is not selective when it comes to what insects it kills.  If dragon flies land on a treated surface long enough to receive a lethal dose then they could be killed.  It is labeled for beetles so will kill ladybugs.

    Q
Which is more stable in direct sunlight, Bifen I/T or Bifen XTS?
    A

Both Bifen IT and Bifen XTS can be used in areas where there is direct sunlight. Bifen IT is a water-based solution, while Bifen XTS is an oil-based solution. Sometimes one solution is preferred, depending on the target pest, so be sure to check the product labels to make sure you are applying the product appropriately for your needs.

  • Asked by Nick
    06/05/2011
    Q
Does Bifen XTS work on springtails? Would it be best to treat at night when the pests are present?
    A
Bifen XTS is labeled for springtails and should do a great job for you. The time of day you spray is not very important as Bifen XTS will leave a long lasting active residual on treated areas. It is important to note that springtails are very hard to eliminate unless the moisture issue that brought them to the area to start with is fixed. You can learn more about how to eliminate springtails by reading our article " How to get rid of springtails"

  • Asked by Sean from Ct
    06/11/2015
    Q
Would Bifen XTS be a good (residual) alternative to Bifen granules to rid of a springtail infestation?
I've seen suggestions of Cyonara + Bifen Granules but I wonder if Bifen XTS alone would accomplish the same to rid of springtails.
    A
Bifen XTS is labeled for springtails. You will use 1/6 fl. oz. per gallon of water. This will be broadcast across the areas where springtails have been seen outdoors and around ornamentals. Using one insecticide is enough.

    Q
How often should I use Bifren XTS for chinch bugs in my St. Augustine lawn?
    A
You can use Bifen XTS every two weeks as needed to treat for chinch bugs. The Bifen XTS product label also recommends: To maximize efficacy against sub-surface pests, apply Bifen XTS with a nonionic surfactant in enough water to ensure the spray penetrates to soil-thatch matrix. Water treated areas with 0.25 to 0.5 inches of water immediately following application, taking special care to prevent run-off or puddling.
