Billbug Damage
Adult billbugs cause minimal damage by feeding on your turf. However, the billbug larvae feed on your turf from the inside of the grass blades down to the roots and will cause extensive damage if populations are high and they go undetected. You should concentrate your control efforts on the larvae. Read our billbug inspection article for more information on recognizing the signs of billbug damage.
While any product labeled for control of billbugs and billbug larvae will work to control the infestation, products with imidacloprid as the active ingredient are particularly effective.
Imidacloprid is a systemic insecticide that disrupts nerve functions. Systemic insecticides are taken up by plants through the root and the insecticide will be consumed by feeding insects.
Billbug insecticide may come in granular or liquid formulas. Make sure to read all instructions and warnings very carefully before use.
