I wouldn't buy this again

By Doris in Springfield, MO on 04/27/2010

Expert Response  Expert response:

Bora-Care is the best wood treatment product on the market.  However, Bora-Care can take up to a month to diffuse completely through the entire piece of wood after you treat it.  Since powderpost beetle larvae can be deep in the wood, it is normal to continue to see activity for awhile until the Bora-Care makes it all the way through the wood.  Of course the true benefit of Bora-Care is that after it does diffuse all of the way through the wood and kill the larvae, it will stay in the wood forever and you never have to worry about wood destroying insects again.

Expert Response  Expert response:

Boracare is very thick and viscous. We do recommend that the product is diluted with hot water in a bucket. The manufacturer recommends that the dilution is mixed with a paint mixer attachment on a drill. After the solution has been thoroughly mixed, the dilution can be added to a sprayer if desired.

hard to use product

By Kim in North Captiva, FL on 03/24/2017

I don't know whether this works or not. I will say it's difficult to impossible to use if you don't have anything to stir with other than a paint stick. It does not spray well since we couldn't get it…

Expert Response  Expert response:

Thank you for your comments! We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience. The Boracare is best to mix with an impeller-type mixer like one you would use to mix paint. You can then apply it with a sprayer, brush, or roller. We appreciate your feedback and your business!

Don't waste your money
1 of 5 stars
By Rl in West Palm Beach FL on 04/07/2017

I drenched the wood beams in my barn and the termites came back after a couple of months.

Expert Response  Expert response:

Thank you for your comments! We are sorry that you have not seen the results you expected from the Boracare treatment. There are many factors that can contribute to termites returning. You did not mention whether you have drywood termites, subterranean termites, or both. We would be happy to troubleshoot with you over the phone: you can reach us at 866-581-7378.

Powder Post Beatles back
1 of 5 stars
By Stephanie in Spencer,IN on 05/21/2022

Sprayed my entire wooden barn with this product twice last fall. Seemed like it took care of the problem. Now they are back. Throughout the entire barn.

Expert Response  Expert response:

We apologize you did not achieve the intended results. Bora-Care only works on insects that are active feeding on the wood and Powderpost beetles can lay dormant in wood for years until conditions are right for them to hatch and become active to feed on the wood. Seeing activity is normal but they will die from ingesting the treated wood.

By Tgrizzle in CHAPEL HILL on 09/21/2011

I bought two bottles of BORACARE and one was obviously not filled. I contacted "DoMyOwn.." and they refunded me a fair amount. All is well, just the hassle. It is BORACARE's fault, not DMOPC.com.

Doesn't soak deep enough into wood to get the beetles
2 of 5 stars
By Clayton in seattle wash on 10/04/2015

Expert Response  Expert response:

Boracare soaks into the wood by displacing the moisture in the wood. This is a long process and can take several weeks vs just a few hours or days. Older wood has less moisture and can impact how deeply the product can penetrate. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. We are always happy to help!

Expert Response  Expert response:

Thank you for your response! Boracare is a very thick liquid, which is why the mixing instructions on the product label advise to use an impeller-type mixer to mix your solution in a separate container first, and then put your finished solution into your sprayer. If you try to mix the product by shaking right in your sprayer, you will not get a consistent solution. Please let us know if we can further assist you!

By Tony in Leicester,NC on 07/27/2014

Sprayed Boracare for powderpost beetle on July 8, 2014..Not working yet !!

Expert Response  Expert response:

Depending on the thickness and moisture content of the treated wood, Boracare may take up to several weeks to absorb fully into treated wood. Because of this action, there may still be beetle activity after Boracare has been applied. If you would like to discuss your particular situation with us further, we are happy to assist by telephone at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST.
