    Q
Does D-Fense SC kill red spider mites? They are all over my deck.
    A

D-Fense SC is only labeled to control spider mites inside.  Bifen IT would be a better option.  You can spray around the perimeter of the deck as well as the edges and all plants/grass around the area.

  • Asked by Bob from Orange Park, Fl
    03/18/2019
    Q
Why the restriction on broadcast treatments to floors or floor coverings with D Fense SC?
I treat the perimeter of my rooms with both carpet and tile for fleas and spray several inches up the wall and onto the floors. Why shouldn't I spray the rest of the floor?
    A

D-Fense SC has only been tested and approved for crack and crevice applications inside.  It would not be safe to apply as a broadcast to carpets where it would come into prolonged skin contact.  For inside treatments of active flea infestations, Onlsaught would be a better option.  Please take a moment to look over our Flea Control Guide for more treatment tips and information.

  • Asked by Cash from Beaver
    03/13/2019
    Q
How much D-Fense SC do I add to 100 gallons of water?
    A

D-Fense SC is applied at 4 to 8 oz/100 gallons of water for ornamentals. Apply when pests become evident. Thorough coverage is required for best results. Apply with sufficient water to ensure coverage of upper and lower leaf surfaces. If you are doing an outdoor perimeter application page 21 and 22 of the product label suggests using either 0.25 fl oz per gallon, which would be 25 fl oz per 100 gallons or 1 oz per gallon, which would be 100 fl oz in 100 gallons of water.

  • Asked by John from Westfield
    11/06/2018
    Q
How dangerous is is D-Fense SC towards the environment? What is a safe distance for a pond near your home for you to be able to apply D-Fense SC without contaminating the water.
    A

D-Fense SC is safe if used as directed.  We do not recommend applying within 25 ft of a pond as it is toxic to aquatic life. It is safe to apply and allow to fully dry prior to the rentry of anyone including children and pets. Only the applicator should be present during the treatment. It should be applied 15 ft away from edible trees and gardens.

  • Asked by Collyn from Glen Cove, Ny
    09/06/2018
    Q
I need to treat mosquitos, ants, and fleas in New York.
Hi, I'm looking for a insecticide concentrate that will treat all three of the pests that are attacking my home and yard: mosquitos, ants(various species seem to live in my yard,) and fleas. I found Bifen XTS on Amazon and was about to purchase that with an IGR but soon realized that due to my state's (I live in New York.) pesticide restrictions, I am unable to use Bifen. Can you recommend another product, please?
    A

You can use a product like D-Fense SC.  It’s a synthetic pyrethroid that can be reapplied on a monthly basis and it can ship to NY. You can use it at a rate of 0.75 – 1 oz per gallon of water for mosquito control. When treating for mosquitoes, make sure to spray the underside of the leaves on ornamental shrubs and trees as these are areas they harbor in. Keep in mind that one treatment will not get rid of all the mosquitoes. For high activity, we recommend adding an insect growth regulator, like Tekko Pro IGR, to disrupt their life cycle and keep juveniles from becoming reproductive adults. This also works great on ants, fleas and a variety of other insects.

  • Asked by William from New Rochelle, Ny

    Q
What would you recommend to kill mosquitos in New York?
I mean, what's the best thing that actually, you know, works. We had a guy come who sprayed Eco Via, and it was worse than pointless. I know we can buy Cutter here, which I understand is a pyrethrin? But I don't if the prohibition has to do with the concentration of the chemicals or what?
    A

You can use a product like D-Fense SC.  It’s a synhetic pyrethroid that can be reapplied on a monthly basis and it can ship to NY. Keep in mind that one treatment will not get rid of all the mosquitoes. For high activity, we recommend to add an insect growth regulator, like Tekko Pro IGR, to disrupt their life cycle and keep juveniles from becoming reproductive adults. If you want to get a quick knockdown when spraying, you can add PestXpert Pyrethrum PBO Plus Concentrate to your solution as well, it will not leave a residual so it will not counteract with the active ingredient of D-Fense SC. Finally, if there are any areas of water retention that allow the mosquitoes to continue to thrive, you may add Bonide Mosquito Beater WSP to your treatment, this can be reapplied every 7-14 days as needed. We recommend to refer to our Mosquito Control Guide for further tips and information.

    Q
Will D-Fense SC break down more quickly in the hot, intense sun in Phoenix during summer?
    A

D-Fense SC can break down easier in direct sunlight than micro-encapsulated or polymer-coated insecticides like Suspend Polyzone. D-Fense SC has an outdoor residual of 30 days where Suspend Polyzone can last up to 90 days outdoors.

  • Asked by Michele from Wheelersburg, Oh
    05/10/2018
    Q
How long does it take to get rid of bedbugs using D-Fense SC?
    A

While D-Fense SC is labeled for bed bugs, bed bug control has much better success if you use a variety of products. We would suggest using one of our Bed Bug Kits to ensure that you have everything you need for a complete treatment.  How long it takes to get rid of bed bugs will depend on the level of infestation you are dealing with.  It is recommended that you treat every 7-10 days until you have gone a full 30 days with no new bites or signs of bed bug activity.  You may want to look over our Bed Bug Control Guide for more information on treating and preventing this pest.

    Q
If the D-Fense SC is mixed already for 2 days is it still good?
    A

Unfortunately the D-Fense SC? should be used within 24 hours of mixing. Any insecticide concentrate you use including D-Fense SC you will only want to mix up how much product you plan to use at a time.

  • Asked by Lori from Michigan
    02/19/2018
    Q
Can I spray the whole exterior of my house with D-Fense SC to keep cluster flies away?
    A

D-Fense SC is a great choice as part of a cluster fly control program. The best time to treat for this overwintering pest is in late summer and fall when this pest is trying to move indoors to stay warm during the winter. You can treat during warm spells and in the spring as cluster flies move to go back outside, but you will not be able to completely eradicate them during this time. We also recommend sealing up cracks and crevices around windows, doors, and light fixtures where these insects may be able to enter or hide. Many folks will also use a fly light to help catch these insects in indoor areas.  Please take a moment to look over our article on How To Get Rid of Cluster Flies for more information.

Can D-Fense SC be used on a log home?
I'm wondering if this product will damage the exterior walls which are made logs / not siding.
    A

D-Fense SC as well as most insecticides are the market these days are clear drying, non staining insecticides that you mix with water and spray in areas where pests are a problem. This will not damage the home no matter what material it is made out of and will not stain or cause discoloration or structural problems.

  • Asked by Jeanne from Fl
    12/16/2017
    Q
How do I measure out D-Fense SC from the bottle?
Do I open the cap on the long throat to get product to flow to short measuring cup then replace it to pour into mixing container? Since it is so in need of care, I am cautious about trying without knowing method. All instructions on mixing and application not on showing how to get it out of bottle
    A

The D-Fense SC has two pour spouts because one is for measuring. You squeeze the bottom of the bottle and the product will go up the straw on the side and into the measuring cup to be mixed. Then you just need to use the cap on the small reservoir side to dispense the product. The cap on the other side is more for professionals who are mixing larger tanks of product to do many treatments or high-volume treatments. For general maintanance, you will use 0.25 fl. oz. of D-Fense SC per gallon of water. This can be sprayed every 21 days. Be sure to remove any children and pets from the area you are treating until the product has had time to dry.

  • Asked by Claudia from El Paso, Tx
    11/08/2017
    Q
How do I apply D-Fense SC to treat bedbugs?
    A

D-Fense SC used to be the go to product for bed bug control for eradicating adults as a crack and crevice treatment (should not be the only product for treatment). However, there have been signs that some strains of bed bugs have become resistant to it since it has been used so much.  Still, bed bug control has much better success if you use a variety of products. Our bed bug kits have many products that are considered the top bed bug control products. Our kits also come with full instructions.  They have a very high success rate with our customers and your best chance of eliminating a bed bug infestation. We would suggest adding an IGR (insect growth regulator) called Gentrol to halt the reproductive cycle of the bedbugs. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article/videos on How to Get Rid of Bedbugs.
