We recommend that you apply D-Fense SC with a synergist such as Exponent for a quicker kill. Exponent will increase the speed of kill and level of control of pyrethroid, D-Fense SC. We also offer Cimexa Dust with a dust applicator for the wall voids, etc. We recommend that you treat monthly on the exterior with D-Fense SC (as weather permits) especially during July-November and the spring (when the exit hiding areas due to warmer weather). The ones that make their way inside should be vacuumed. Exclusion is a great way to help keep them outdoors as much as possible. The exterior areas can be treated with D-Fense SC and you can incorporate a surfactant (in replace of dish soap). Please take a few moments to review our treatment article for a successful eradication program on How to Get Rid of Boxelder Bugs.
The mixing rate of D-Fense SC is 0.25 fl oz per gallon of water for ladybugs. This can be reapplied every 21 days as needed.
D-Fense SC is an insecticide that will kill adult beetles. You can add an Insect Growth Regulator that is labeled for Dermestid beetles such as Gentrol IGR Concentrate to your D-Fense SC solution to help control the immature stages of these and other listed insects. Be sure you are removing any infested items and cleaning the area thoroughly before applying insecticides.
D-Fense SC and Gentrol IGR can be tank mixed together. You will add 1 fl oz of Gentrol IGR and 0.25 - 0.75 fl oz of D-Fense SC per gallon of water. Bedlam aerosol should be applied once every two weeks to cracks and crevices and other listed areas on the label. It is not necessary to apply to the same areas.
We would recommend removing the birds and their cages during the application, and until the product dries with proper ventilation. The residual of the product would be perfectly safe provided they did not come in direct contact with it. We recommend confirming with the vet if this not possible for other recommendations.
D-Fense SC has a three year shelf life from the date of purchase if stored away from extreme temperatures. It should only be applied 25 ft away from water. We do carry Essentria IC3 that can be applied to the dock areas for spider control.
We would recommend filling your sprayer 1/2 full of the water, put in the D-fense SC, put in the IGR, fill up the rest of your tank with water and agitate, so that all of the products are thoroughly mixed together, and spray.
D-Fense SC is a great choice as part of cluster fly control. The best time to treat for this overwintering pest is in late Summer and Fall when this pest is trying to move indoors to stay warm during the winter. You can treat during warm spells and in the Spring as cluster flies move to go back outside, but you will not be able to completely eradicate them during this time. We also recommend sealing up cracks and crevices around windows, doors, and light fixtures where these insects may be able to enter or hide. Many folks will also use a fly light to help catch these insects in indoor areas.
D-Fense SC should be applied 24 hours before you are expecting any rain, or before you plan to irrigate. After 24 hours, it will be rainfast and you will not need to reapply after it rains or after you water.
There is not a particular time of the day that is necessary to spray D-Fense SC as long as it's sprayed 24 hours before any expected rain and avoid spraying in the heat of the day to avoid any foliage burn. We recommend spraying in the early morning or later in the evening and avoid spraying any blooms since that is when pollinators are active.
D-fense SC is not labeled for wheel bugs. Wheel bugs do not harm humans or plants that are in the area. They are a beneficial insect, therefore we do not make recommendations for products to get rid of them.
The active ingredient in D-Fense SC deltamethrin is a repellent. However, Zenprox EC Insecticide is a non-repellent, and can be shipped to New York.
Yes, D Fense SC could be used along with Vendetta and Tekko Pro IGR.
We also have a great article for eliminating them here.
The grass and plants do not have to be watered down prior to applying the D-Fense SC solution for most applications. Depending on the insect you are treating for some you should irrigate before treatment and some you shouldnt. If it's a lawn infesting pest like mole crickets or chinch bugs, it helps get the product to the level of the insects in the lawn by irrigating first to pull them closer to the surface. Irrigating after spraying will only wash the product away. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Any insecticide concentrate you use including D-Fense SC you will only want to mix up how much product you plan to use at a time. Mixed insecticides should only be stored for a max of 48 hours.
D-Fense SC should be used within 24 hours of mixing. Nyguard IGR can be mixed with this product. We would not recommend using the mixed solution after 24 hours. We would recommend mixing up another batch to get the best results possible.
No, it is not necessary to mix two products, such as D-Fense SC and Transport Mikron together when spraying. Mixing two products together has the potential to build up a resistant to them more quickly. These products can be used in a rotation with each other. If you are wanting to use a product to enhance the effectiveness of your products, we would recommend using Exciter. This is a synergist that provides a knockdown and Transport Mikron or D-Fense SC will provide the residual effects.
D-FENSE SC may be mixed with latex coatings and oilbased coatings such as stains, varnishes and sealers for use to kill crawling and flying insects when exposed to treated surfaces. Please see our Carpenter Bee Treatment article for more information about treating for this pest.
