You can use Dominion 2L insecticide to treat scale on your crepe myrtle trees. You would apply this as a drench around the root system of each tree while the trees are actively growing. This is typically done in spring after petal fall. You would use 0.1 – 0.4 oz of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter at breast height diluted in water in a bucket or watering can and poured around the base of each tree. We generally recommend that you pair a soil drench with a topical spray such as a horticultural oil or a pyrethroid such as Talstar P for fastest results when treating for scale.

Dominion 2L is not a fungicide and would not treat any tree for black sooty mold. Dominion is often used as soil drench application to the base/root zone of trees to help with insects that do damage to the plant throughout the season such as whiteflies, aphids, borers, etc. Make sure you have correctly identified the issue on your crape myrtles as either disease or insect as the treatments would be very different for each. If its insects that are causing the sooty spots on the leaves, you would only need to do a single application of Dominion 2L to the roots of the plant per year. It does need to be applied when the trees are acively growing to absorb the product effectively.
