When Is the Best Time of Year to Apply Drive XLR8 for Crabgrass?

For best results, apply Drive XLR8 when crabgrass is either:

• Very young (1–2 leaf stage) for easiest control
• Fully mature when plants are well-developed

Applications made during the 2–4 tiller stage may require a repeat treatment for complete control. Always refer to the product label for specific application timing, rates, and seasonal guidelines for your region.

For optimal performance:

• Apply when air temperatures are between 65°F and 85°F
• Avoid applications during extreme heat or drought stress

If crabgrass returns to the same areas each year, consider using a pre-emergent herbicide in early spring and fall to prevent new growth before it starts.

How Much Drive XLR8 Do You Mix Per Gallon to Spot Treat Crabgrass?

For spot treating crabgrass, mix:

• 1.45 fl oz of Drive XLR8 per gallon of water
• Add an MSO surfactant per the product label for best results

A surfactant is recommended for the best results, as it helps the herbicide stick to and penetrate crabgrass leaves more effectively. Apply evenly to the target area, ensuring good coverage without runoff. Always follow the product label for complete mixing and application instructions.

What is the mix rate of Drive XLR8 Crabgrass Killer Herbicide to treat 1,000 square feet?
Getting the mixing ratio right for Drive XLR8 Crabgrass Killer is essential to ensure optimal results.  Spot treatment applications can be made by mixing and applying 1.45 fl oz of Drive XLR8 Herbicide per 1,000 square feet. Mix with 1 gallon of water and 0.16–0.48 fl oz of MSO.  This equates to mixing 3 tablespoons of Drive XLR8 per gallon of water along with 1.5 tablespoons of MSO to treat 1,000 square feet.  It is important not to overmix or overtreat the area for optimal results. 

Should I use a surfactant or MSO with Drive XLR8 Herbicide?
Yes, it is recommended to mix Drive XLR8 with a methylated seed oil (MSO), such as Prime Source Duo Stick Select or Dyneamic surfactant, before applying to increase the efficacy of the weed control application.  By mixing Drive with an MSO, it increases the herbicide's absorption into weeds and helps ensure more even, effective weed control.  The Drive XLR8 mixing application rate when doing spot treatments is generally 3 tablespoons of Drive XLR8 Herbicide per gallon, along with 1.5 tablespoons of MSO to treat 1,000 square feet.  See the product label for full mixing rates and instructions. 
 

How do I mix Drive XLR8 Herbicide?

• Water - Begin by agitating a thoroughly clean sprayer tank 3/4 full of clean water.
• Agitation - Maintain constant agitation throughout mixing and application.
• Inductor - If an inductor is used, rinse it thoroughly after each component has been added.
• Products in PVA bags - Place any product contained in water-soluble PVA bags into the mixing tank. Wait until all water-soluble PVA bags have fully dissolved and the product is evenly mixed in the spray tank before continuing.
• Water-dispersible products (dry flowables, wettable powders, suspension concentrates, or suspo-emulsions)
• Water-soluble products (such as Drive XLR8)
• Emulsifiable concentrates (such as methylated seed oil or crop oil concentrate)
• Water-soluble additives (such as chelated iron or soluble nitrogen fertilizer when applicable; not all chelated iron or sprayable nitrogen fertilizers are compatible with Drive XLR8. Always perform a compatibility test to ensure proper mixing. See Compatibility Test For Mix Components section of label for directions.)
• Remaining quantity of water
• Maintain constant agitation during application

In a backpack sprayer, begin with a clean spray tank. Fill the spray tank 1/2 full with clean water and add the required amount of Drive XLR8 to the sprayer. Cap sprayer and agitate to ensure mixing. Uncap the sprayer and add an appropriate amount of methylated seed oil. Cap sprayer and agitate once again. Uncap sprayer and finish filling tank to desired level. During application, agitate the mixture on occasion to ensure mixing. If the mixture is allowed to settle for any period of time, thorough agitation is essential before spraying is resumed.

How is Drive XLR8 Herbicide applied?

• Apply Drive XLR8 to actively growing weeds as postemergence broadcast or spot spray using the turfgrass species, rate, and growth stages indicated in Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3 of the product label.
• DO NOT exceed the labeled application rate or fail to comply with use restrictions listed in Restrictions and Limitations.
• For best results, weeds should not be under stress from lack of water, excessive water, low fertility, mowing shock, excessive hot or cold temperatures, or injury from other herbicide applications.
• To achieve consistent weed control, use methylated seed oil (MSO). Refer to Table 2 and Table 3 on the product label for rates.

Mowing Information

• DO NOT mow 2 days before or after applying Drive XLR8 to maximize weed control and minimize potential turfgrass injury.
• Clippings from the first three mowings after application should be left on the treated area.

Irrigation and Rainfall

• If soil moisture is not sufficient before the Drive XLR8 application, irrigation may improve weed control.
• For best results, DO NOT water or irrigate for 24 hours after application.
• If rainfall does not occur in 2 to 7 days after application, irrigation of at least 1/2 inch is desirable.

Seeding/Overseeding/Sprigging

The use of Drive XLR8 before or after seeding or overseeding a turfgrass area will not significantly interfere with the turfgrass seed germination and growth of those grass types identified as tolerant or moderately tolerant in Table 1 of the product label. See Table 4 of the product label for seeding, overseeding, or sprigging application timing.
 

USE TIPS:

Spray coverage should be uniform and complete. It is recommended not to mow two days before or after application. Irrigation may improve weed control if soil moisture is not sufficient. Drive XLR8 may be tank-mixed with other pre- and postemergent grass herbicides, along with postemergent broadleaf herbicides.

Drive XLR8 for Crabgrass Control can be used as a spot treatment only on problem areas of crabgrass.

Drive XLR8 Herbicide should not be used in temperatures above 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit to reduce the potential for leaf burn on desirable turf grass.
