The oil used for diluting Essentria IC3 in fogging applications is mineral oil. Cooking oils would not be recommended to be used and dish soaps would not, either. The product is also already oil based and will stick to surfaces well as it contains an adjuvant already. Mosquito Barrier would be applied in a separate application for repelling listed insects and would not affect the Essentria.
Essentria IC3 can be applied near lakes and is labeled for fleas and many other insects. You will want to mow the lawn 1-2 days prior to application and treat once every 2 weeks until the fleas are gone. We recommend that you have the pets treated as well. We do carry flea control for your animals and for the interior of the home.
There is not a specific temperature requirement for applying Essentria IC3 except that temperatures should be above freezing to avoid damaging your spray equipment. Because this concentrate contains botanical oils, we would recommend avoiding spraying sensitive ornamental plants in the hottest part of the day or just before this time, most likely when temperatures may be over 90 degrees. This is just to reduce the possiblity of burning sensitive plants. You will usually see better residual spraying plants that are not already wet from dew or precipitation. We would not recommend spraying when the ground is very wet from precipitation, or when rainfall is expected within 24 hours.
Yes, Essentria IC3 Insecticide Concentrate does have a minty odor. The length of the odor depends on how heavily the product was sprayed. The odor generally fades within one to two hours, however the odor will be noticeable longer when used at higher dilution rates.
It is not necessary to mix Mosquito Barrier and Essentria IC3. They have two different modes of action and will work against each other.

Essentria IC3 would be a great choice for mosquito control if you are concerned about animals and people in the area. You will probably need to apply a bit more frequently than you would synthetic insecticides since the natural active ingredients will not hold up as well in the rain and sunlight. Larvicides are also an excellent part of a good mosquito control program, and these are not harmful to birds or mammals when used as directed. You can view more information and tips in our Mosquito Treatment Guide.

Fly Control is best obtained using a fly trap such as the Flies Be Gone Trap. This trap is to be placed in direct sunlight, 30ft away from the area you are wanting to rid flies of and placed 5ft off the ground. These traps are disposoble so you just throw them away after 4-6 weeks.

We recommend to reapply Essentria IC3 Insecticide Concentrate every 2-4 weeks if it rains, but especially in the spring and summer months.
Essentria IC3 Insecticide Concentrate can eliminate any type of ant that comes into contact with a treated area. You should note that the product will not be carried back to the colony and transferred to other ants - only the ants that actually come in contact with treated areas will be eliminated. We do carry Termidor SC and Phantom, which both work with a transfer effect and are labeled for most types of ants. If you would prefer to stick to all natural products you should consider using a combination of ant baits such as the Gourmet Ant Bait Gel and the Intice Fine Bait Granules. Baits will be picked up by the foraging ants and carried back to the colony. After the infestation is gone you can follow up with the Essentria IC3 as a barrier spray around the exterior of your home to stop new ants from moving in.
Essentria IC3 Insecticide Concentrate will kill ticks by direct contact or contact with the residual, so exactly how long it takes to kill a tick may vary from a few minutes to hours, depending on how much active ingredient an insect pick up.
