    Q
How strong should I mix NyGuard for outside use for flea prevention? How long will it last outside?
    A

NyGuard IGR would be good to use a rate of 8 ml per gallon for 1500 sqft.  Application on soil surfaces will provide 30 to 60 days of IGR activity, depending upon insect type, soil type and weather conditions

    Q
Is using Onslaught and NyGuard IGR on the furniture not a good idea for treating fleas?
I read some reviews that Onslaught (even after drying) caused skin irritation.
    A

Onslaught and NyGuard IGR can be mixed together and applied indoors and outdoors for treating fleas and safe if used as directed on the product labels. Onslaught is not labeled for use on furniture. We do carry products that can be applied to furniture surfaces such as Sterifab and BioDefense. We recommend that you use Ultracide for the indoor treatment as it can be used on all carpeted areas, pet bedding and upholstered furniture. Ultracide Spray contains Permethrin and Phenothrin to kill adult fleas fast. It also contains Methoprene (an insect growth regulator) to prevent reinfestation for up to seven months. Methoprene penetrates deep into the base of carpet and upholstery fibers, where pre-adult fleas live, and targets fleas in the egg and larval stages of development, preventing them from producing new infestations of breeding, biting adults. Be sure to thoroughly vacuum immediately before the treatment and every day for the next 14 days to help speed up flea elimination.

    Q
Can I mix NyGuard IGR and Tempo SC Ultra for carpet beetles?
I am currently using NyGuard IGR & Tempo SC Ultra to get rid of black and varied carpet beetles. Is this mixture effective together? Also, do I have to spray the larvae, or is the residual enough to affect the larvae if they move into a sprayed area?
    A

NyGuard IGR & Tempo SC Ultra mixed together will kill and sterilize Carpet Beetles. If you can get into the cracks and crevices where the larvae or pupa are, then the products will treat for the larvae and pupa stages. There is residual left and you will need to retreat every 14 days. Also, be sure to continue to vacuum often.

  • Asked by Kathrin from San Antonio, Tx

    Q
How does watering effect NyGuard & Talstar
How soon after I apply a combination of NyGaurd and Talstar can I water the grass? What effect does it have on the chemicals?
    A
You generally want to wait at least 24 hours after an application of Talstar and NyGuard so that the application has time to dry and adhere to the grass and surfaces you have applied it to.  Watering too much can cause the product to lose it's effectiveness over time so you would want to apply once a month.

  • Asked by Joe from Northwest Florida

    Q
Can you use NyGuard IGR in a Hose Sprayer?
Are you able to use NyGuard IGR in a Hose Sprayer? If so, what would be the dilution rate? is it possible to use in a Sprayer with Talstar Pro?
    A
NyGuard IGR is typically not a product that can be used in a hose end sprayer as few sprayers will dial down to the small amount of this product that is needed per gallon. You can use it in a hand pump sprayer with Talstar at the rate of 1 ounce of Talstar and 4-8 ml of NyGuard IGR per gallon of water. Once you have treated your first time with the mixture of the two products, you can use the hose end sprayer to apply the Talstar again 30 days later while the NyGuard is continuing to work. The rate for a hose end sprayer for Talstar is the same as a pump sprayer, just put the concentrate into the reservoir, set the dial to 1 ounce and start spraying. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Roxanna from Lusby, Md
    04/02/2016
    Q
What bugs exactly does NyGuard IGR fight against?
I have the little Bottle of Nyguard IGR concentrate.
    A

NyGuard IGR is an insect growth regulator that does not actually kill insects.  It prevent the young of the insects listed on the product label such as roaches, mosquitoes, fleas, etc.  It causes morphological anomalies or changes and disrupts the expected insects' state of development, leading to sterility or death. When adults are present, NyGuard is commonly used in combination with a non-IGR insecticide to kill the insects as well.

  • Asked by Joe from Millington, Nj
    06/11/2017
    Q
Is NyGuard meant to be used on wet surfaces or in water since it's intended to keep mosquitoes from maturing?
I'm thinking of spraying it over lawns that stay wet and have mosquitoes that don't seem to be dying from adulticide
    A

NyGuard IGR can be applied on lawns when wet but not dripping/soaked.  The key to mosquito treatments is applying to the underside of leaves where the adults lay during the day.  We have a great guide here for treating mosquitoes that may help as well. If you have standing water to treat, then we recommend using Altosid Pro-G in those areas.

  • Asked by Ron from Villa Rica, Ga

    Q
Is it ok to use both NyGuard IGR and Transport GHP at the same time?
I have a roach infestation in a rental. The house has been cleaned out. I have sprayed Demand CS & Suspend Polyzone with limited success. I have recently purchased NYGuard & Transport GHP on a recommendation from a friend. Spray all 4 products? If so, what order? All all at once? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
    A

You can apply an insecticide like Transport GHP and a growth regulator like NyGuard IGR at the same time.  However, you should not mix multiple insecticides as over-applying products can actually cause insects to avoid the treated areas.  You may find it helpful to take a look at our Roach Treatment Guide if you have not already done so.

  • Asked by Bill from Texas

    Q
Can Nyguard be mixed with Demand CS?
I am spraying a barn with a large infestation of spiders, ticks, flies, etc, with a one gallon B&G sprayer. Can I mix Nyguard with Demand CS for the best knockdown and control?
    A

Yes, Nyguard IGR can be mixed with Demand CS. However, Nyguard IGR is an insect growth regulator. It is like a birth control for certain pests. It does not help with the knockdown of the pests. You will use 1 fl. oz. of Nyguard IGR with a gallon of water. For a severe infestation, you will use 0.8 fl. oz. of Demand CS.

If you are looking for a product to get a quicker knockdown, we would recommend ExciteR Pyrethrin Concentrate. ExciteR Insecticide with piperonyl butoxide (PBO) was designed with a pyrethroid pesticide to amplify the efficacy on pest insects.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
I live in AZ and need to spray the yard for fleas. Will anything work in this heat?
Sprayed Talstar P in yard and it dried in seconds. Do I need NyGuard with the Talstar p?
    A

We highly recommend using an Insect Growth Regulator when doing outdoor treatment For  fleas. The best IGR to use outside because it does not breakdown easily in direct sunlight is Archer IGR.  In a 1 gallon pump sprayer, mix 1 fl oz of Archer IGR with 1 fl oz of Talstar P with 1 gallon of water. Apply the solution over a 1,000 sq ft area.  Water the yard to ensure the solution gets into the thatch layer where the Flea Larvae are residing. Archer IGR has been known to last 7 months inside and about 30-60 days outside, and Talstar P needs to be applied every 30 days for outside flea control. Please follow the label instructions for applications. We recommend applying the product in early morning or late afternoon.

  • Asked by Lori from Waterloo, Wi
    09/13/2014
    Q
If used alone, is Nyguard safe to spray (where horses graze) in a pasture?
It has not been enough for me to treat the areas outside the pastures. Gnats, and mosquitos are bad, and in the grass, which is not terribly long but can't be cut as short as the lawn as I want to promote good grazing grass. I'd like some recommendations for natural control (IGR's and BTI if they would be safe for pasture). Essentria would be too costly long term. Thank you!
    A

No, Nyguard IGR is not labeled to be used on pastures where animals graze.

For mosquitos and gnats, we would recommend focusing on the trees and/or water sources in the area. Do not spray the grazing area. Put BTI mosquito dunks in the water sources. Horses can still drink from these areas that have been treated with the mosquito dunks. For spraying, we would recommend using EcoVia. It is a natural product that can be sprayed on trees, bushes, shrubs, etc. It is not labeled to be sprayed on any type of grazing area. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • Asked by William from Margate, Florida

    Q
What happens if I use a non-repellent and an IGR, such as NyGuard IGR, on roaches?
Why do they scatter if it is a flushing agent? Do NyGuard and Alpine WSG act like a flushing agent when mixed?
    A

NyGuard IGR and Alpine WSG are not considered flushing agents. Alpine WSG (water-soluble granule) is a non-pyrethroid, non-repellent broad-spectrum insecticide that uses the active ingredient Dinotefuran. NyGuard IGR is an Insect Growth Regulator which is like a kind of birth control for insects. It will stop the roaches from being able to reproduce and mature further into their lifecycles. The combination of an insecticide and an IGR is recommended when dealing with pests like roaches. Nyguard IGR can be added to Alpine WSG with no negative side effects. For more information on treating roaches, please review our article on How to Get Rid of Roaches for more helpful tips.

  • Asked by Shawna from Pima
    04/28/2015
    Q
    Which IGR should I use?
Plan to use Tempo SC all year except the three months of monsoon season. I'll use Suspend Polyzone. Want to mix in an IGR with one or both of these (different times not all 3 products at once) and live in Arizona. I want NyGuard but it isn't labeled for that) main problem is roaches and spiders. I'd rather take a product that works overall much better than an IGR that works on scorpions but doesn't do as well all around. Separate question. Is there some way I can treat drains for cockroaches? At my work this is done periodically. I have definite issues with them coming up the drains. I'm thinking I could treat drains right before leaving for a week long vacation. Is there something or some methods you can recommend?
    A

NyGuard IGR is labeled for outdoor and indoor use for various insects including roaches. It would be a great choice to mix with either Tempo SC or Suspend Polyzone. We recommend that you apply a professional roach bait gel to indoor cracks and crevices (where you are not spraying). You will want to re-apply once every two weeks (cleaning up old bait placements). You can apply a drain gel to the drains nightly for a week (when drains are not being used) and apply 2-3 squirts of Gentrol Aerosol as well. This will break up any organic matter in the drains that the roaches are attracted to and the reproductive cycle.
