Product Overview

GrazonNext HL Herbicide is a broadleaf weed control product that will kill more than 100 different types of weeds, including the more difficult to kill perennials, like nightshades and bull nettles. Quickly killing the existing weeds and keeping them from coming back, the product also works great with liquid fertilizers and can be safely used around grazing areas of livestock, Conservation Reserve Program land and wildlife management areas. GrazonNext HL Herbicide also comes with no restriction for any kind of livestock, including beef cattle, goats, horses, nursing dairy animals, and sheep and won't harm desirable grasses like bahiagrass, bermudagrass, fescue, orchard and other mixed native grasses. Just follow the directions on the bottom description on what rate of dilution is required to kill your problem weed and your property will be weed free in no time. The product works great with brush control herbicides, like Remedy Ultra, which can be mixed and applied at the same time, massively reducing the time it takes to undertake an integrated vegetation management program.

Only apply this product if the wind direction favors on-target deposition and there are not sensitive areas (including, but not limited to, residential areas, bodies of water, known habitat for nontarget species, nontarget crops) within 250 feet downwind.

This product replaces Forefront HL Herbicide.

Details

GrazonNext HL Herbicide is a selective post-emergent herbicide designed to control tough broadleaf weeds and woody brush in pastures, rangelands, and permanent grass areas. It is commonly used to treat thistle species, blackberry, and other hard-to-control weeds while preserving desirable grasses when applied according to the product label.

When Is the Best Time to Apply GrazonNext HL Herbicide?

GrazonNext HL Herbicide should be applied when weeds are actively growing for the best results. Avoid applications when rain is expected within 2 hours after treatment. After rainfall, the product can generally be applied once foliage is dry and weeds are no longer dripping wet.

How Do You Mix and Apply GrazonNext HL Herbicide for Pasture Weed Control?

GrazonNext HL Herbicide is designed for broadleaf weed control in pastures, rangeland, and other non-crop grass areas. This selective herbicide provides fast burndown and season-long control of more than 100 tough weeds, including Canada thistle, horsenettle, Texas bull nettle, cocklebur, curly dock, ragweed, and other hard-to-kill perennial and annual broadleaf weeds. GrazonNext HL also helps suppress encroaching brush while remaining safe for desirable pasture grasses such as bermudagrass, bahiagrass, fescue, orchardgrass, and mixed native grasses when used as directed.

Do not apply GrazonNext HL Herbicide to residential lawns, ornamental turf, golf courses, athletic fields, commercial sod farms, driveways, walkways, tennis courts, or other high-maintenance turfgrass areas.

GrazonNext HL Herbicide offers both pre-emergent and post-emergent activity on many broadleaf weeds and works well as a tank mix partner with liquid fertilizers and brush control herbicides such as PastureGard HL and Remedy Ultra.

This herbicide has no grazing restrictions for livestock, including beef cattle, dairy animals, sheep, goats, and horses, when used according to the product label. GrazonNext HL is also not classified as a federally Restricted Use Pesticide. Do not apply more than 2.1 pints (34 fl oz) per acre per season. Treated areas should not be rotated to cropland for at least one year following application

What Is the GrazonNext HL Herbicide Mix Rate per Gallon of Water?

The amount of GrazonNext HL Herbicide per gallon depends on the size of the treatment area and the target weeds. For spot treatments, most applications use the labeled rate per 1,000 square feet mixed into 1 gallon of water.

For broadcast applications, the water volume can vary based on spray equipment and coverage needs. In most cases, applicators use enough water to evenly cover the treatment area, typically around 1 to 3 gallons of water per 1,000 sq ft.

How Do You Mix GrazonNext HL Herbicide in a Sprayer Tank?

To properly mix GrazonNext HL Herbicide:

  1. Fill the spray tank halfway with water.
  2. Begin agitation if your sprayer is equipped for it.
  3. Add the measured amount of GrazonNext HL Herbicide directly into the tank.
  4. Add any compatible tank mix partners or surfactants if needed.
  5. Finish filling the tank with the remaining water while continuing agitation.

GrazonNext HL Herbicide does not need to be premixed separately before adding it to the sprayer tank.

How Much GrazonNext HL Herbicide Do I Need for a 25-Gallon or 40-Gallon Sprayer?

The amount of product needed depends on the weed being treated and how much area your sprayer covers.

For example, if treating blackberry or tougher thistle species at the higher labeled rate of 1.5 to 2.1 pints per acre, calibrate your sprayer first to determine how many gallons of water are needed to cover 1 acre (43,560 sq ft).

A common broadcast application uses approximately 3 gallons of water per 1,000 sq ft, which equals about 130 gallons of spray solution per acre. If using a 40-gallon boom sprayer, you may need about 3 tank refills per acre, depending on your calibration and walking or driving speed.

How Long Does GrazonNext HL Herbicide Take to Work?

You may begin seeing visible results from GrazonNext HL Herbicide within a few days after application. Complete control can take several weeks, depending on the weed species, the maturity of the weeds, and the overall growing conditions.

Actively growing younger weeds typically respond faster than mature or stressed plants.

How Much GrazonNext HL Herbicide Should I Use for Thistle Control?

The recommended GrazonNext HL Herbicide mix rate depends on the specific thistle species being treated.

For yellow starthistle, bull thistle, musk thistle, and plumeless thistle, apply:

  • 1.2 to 1.5 pints per acre
  • Equivalent to approximately 0.44 to 0.5 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft

For Canada thistle, scotch thistle, sowthistle, and prickly sowthistle, apply:

  • 1.5 to 2.1 pints per acre
  • Equivalent to approximately 0.5 to 0.78 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft

When spot treating with a hand pump or backpack sprayer, use the recommended rate per 1,000 sq ft in 1 gallon of water.

Be careful if using for hay or manure from treated fields

    By Gail on 08/05/2019

Be very careful using Aminopyralid. if the cows or horse eat the grass treated or hay treated it passes thru intact. Lost a large part of my tomatoes and potatoes to composted cow manure that contained was contaminated by this. Minute concentrations of picloram, clopyralid and aminopyralid, as low as 1 ppb (parts per billion), can be lethal to sensitive garden plants such as peas, beans, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes and potatoes. Takes years and years to get cleared from soil. Only good plant to put in affected garden soil is corn.

Test results used on Bahia grass hay.

    By Edward on 06/03/2018

I am testing this product on three types of weeds that are affecting the quality of my hay fields. Our LSU AgCenter agent listed GrazonNext HL as one of the Herbicides used in their test to control "Horsenettle, Johnson Grass, and Pigweed". So far my test are showing control of all three. I plan to treat all fields next year. Thanks for a great product.

Q
What is the mix rate and application instructions to apply GrazonNext HL Herbicide to 5 acres using a 4 gallon boomsprayer?

I've read the label on my grazon HL and I simply don't understand the mixing ratio or technique. Can I pour the grazon into the tank or do I premix it in 3 gl of water. Please give me direction on how to apply

A

Without knowing the specific weeds you are targeting, we are unable to give an exact mix rate. GrazonNext HL Herbicide is applied at 19-34 fl oz per acre (43,560 sq ft). The amount of water will depend on how much water it takes to cover 1,000 sq ft thoroughly. Typically 1-2 gallons of water every 1,000 sq ft is sufficent, the label is recommending to use 3 gallons of water every 1000 sq ft to ensure the active ingredient in  GrazonNext gets into the soil. Please see the break down below.

To treat each of the 5 acres, you would need 130 gallons of water for each acre. ** 1 acre = 130 gallons of water (3 gal of water x 43,560 sq ft (sq ft in acre)

You would need to refill your sprayer approx 3 times to thoroughly treat 1 acre.

Depending on what weeds you are targeting, you will divide the 19 fl oz, 24 fl oz or 34 fl oz mix rate per acre and divide by 3 (the # of times you will fill the 40 gal sprayer) .

Low Rate 19 fl oz / 3 tank fills = 6.3 fl oz per tank

Mid Rate 24 fl oz / 3 tank fills = 8 fl oz per tank

High Rate 34 fl oz / 3 tank fills + 11.3 fl oz per tank

You can mix the GrazonNext directly into the tank. To prepare the spray, add about half the required amount of water in the spray tank. Then, with agitation, add the specified amount of GrazonNext HL and other registered tank mix herbicides. Finally, with continued agitation, add the rest of the water and additives such as surfactants or drift control and deposition aids.

GrazonNext HL Herbicide is a post-emergent herbicide so it can be used any time the weeds are in an actively growing state. If the weeds are apparent now, then you can use the product now to try and eliminate them. The rate range for GrazonNext HL Herbicide is 1.2 to 1.5 pints (19 to 24 fluid oz) product per acre. Please provide details on your application for specific information.
