Product Overview

Rodeo Herbicide is a very popular glyphosphate herbicide for the control of aquatic weeds and plants. Rodeo Herbicide is effective on nearly all emergent plants like Cattails, Grasses, Bulrushes, Purple Loosestrife, Alligatorweed. Rodeo is systemic - kills the roots for multi year control. There is not a more economical way to control tall weeds. Mix the Rodeo concentrate with water and a non-ionic surfactant (See DyneAmic Surfactant) and apply by using a back pack or Chapin sprayer. For Cattail or Lily control wait until plants are mature. Apply to dry plants. No water use restrictions.

    Good product, but not for every problem

    I specifically bought this product to control weeds in my farm pond. It arrived quickly and well packaged; no problem there. Close reading of the Rodeo literature included with the product states, "will not control underwater plants, or those with foliage mostly underwater." Naturally, these were the plants that I wanted to control. Lesson learned: just because it says "aquacide" doesn't mean it controls all plants in the water.

    Cattails dying off

    I have a small pond entirely filled with cattails. Tall ones, too--8-10ft. I sprayed about 1.25 gallons of this at a 5% solution and nearly everyone turned brown within 2 weeks. I will probably have to spray a second time because those things grow so fast.

    Purchased because it is our state-approved for use on or near water---lakes and streams. Added the surfactant DyneAmic as recommended (which is also safe for use on water). Killed those very invasive tall water-loving phragmites. Used 3 oz to 2 gal of water and it worked well.

    This is great stuff but you must be very careful because even the slightest mist or overspray will kill anything growing close to the shoreline. I have used this product before and it prevented new growth for about 5-6 years. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get rid of lily pads and other shoreline vegetation.

Is Rodeo Herbicide safe for use around dogs?

My dogs swim in and drink out of our pond, is this product safe for them and how long should I keep them away from the pond after using this product? Also, is it safe for the fish?

Rodeo Herbicide is labeld for use in ponds, streams, lakes and other bodies of water including bodies of water that are located in wildlife habitats. Products that would harm fish or other aquatic animals would indicate on the product label that the product could not be used near bodies of water. When used as directed on the product label Rodeo should be safe for dogs and other animals.

Rodeo vs Round up?

label active ingredients are the same yet one is labeled for aquatic use and the the other isn't, WHY ?

In cases where the active ingredients are the same but the usage is different there could be a couple of reasons, 1. The formula is different, meaning the base is different. The active ingredient is only one component of a finished product or 2. One company tested the product for specific uses and the other company did not. Use products in accordance with their product labels.

We have a large pond fed by a tributary from a river. Parrot feather is growing rapidly. Will this product help rid the pond of this invasive plant?

Is there a quantity in acres that Rodeo 2.5 gallons should cover? Does Rodeo need to be diluted?

To determine how far one bottle of the Rodeo will go, you need to determine what type of vegetation you are treating and where you will be treating. We recommend that you review the Rodeo Product Label to determine the proper usage rate for your needs. Rodeo will need to be diluted with water as directed on the product label. You will also need to use a non-ionic surfactant such as Dyneamic in combination with the Rodeo for best results.

I'm having difficulty finding a product that can be used to control cattails in our California pond. They are out of control.

Can I use Rodeo to control cattails in my pond..I have fish in it and also get my domestic water from it?

According to the Rodeo product label the product can be used in a pond to control cattails and there are no water restrictions concerning fish or water usage. If a large area of the pond needs to be treated you should only treat a 1/3 - 1/2 of the lake at a time to avoid removing too much oxygen from the water which could impact aquatic life in the pond.

How long can you store Rodeo Herbicide without it losing effectiveness?

Rodeo seems to only come in 2.5 gallon containers and I don't need that much. If I buy it now, will it still be good next year and the year after?

Like most of our herbicides, Rodeo has a shelf life of 3-5 years if kept at moderate temps. Mkae sure that the lid is tightly sealed before storing.

I just purchased Rodeo Herbicide from you. Do you have an application rate suggestion for phragmites control?

Per page 9 of the Rodeo product label "For partial control of phragmites in Florida and the counties of other states bordering the Gulf of Mexico, apply 7 1/2 pints per acre as a boradcast spray or apply a 1 1/2 percent solution with hand-held equipment.  In other areas of the U.S, apply 4 to 6 pints per acre as a broadcast spray or apply a 3/4 percent solution with hand-held equipment for partial control.  For best results, treat during late summer or fall months when plants are actively growing and in full bloom.  Repeat treatments may be necessary to maintain control"

I want to kill existing weeds on a hillside next to a lake and plant english ivy. Will Rodeo hurt ivy?

Can I over spray after ivy planted if needed, will it hurt tree roots

Rodeo contains glyphosate which is a non-selective herbicide. Non-selective herbicides will kill just about any vegetation that they are sprayed on.  If the tree is established, then the Rodeo should have no effect on the tree roots. You should try to limit the exposure to the tree and only directly treat the vegetation you are trying to get rid of.

Will Rodeo kill duckweed?

The Rodeo Herbicide is not labeled to control duckweed so it may not work for your needs. The Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide is labeled for duckweed control and will do a good job. For duckweed control, apply Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide at 1-2 gallons/A + 32 oz./A of surfactant in at least 100 gallons of water. Treatment of dense weed areas may result in oxygen loss from decomposition of dead weeds. This loss of oxygen may cause fish suffocation. Therefore, treat only 1/3 to ½ of the water body area at one time and wait 14
days between treatments.

Rodeo is not labed for Pennywort, so we cannot recommend it. However, most glyphoste herbicides will kill pretty much anything you apply it to. Please let us know where you would be treating?
