Can I use Simazine 4L Herbicide on fescue?

Simazine 4L Herbicide is not labeled for use on Fescue turfgrass as the product is only labeled for use in warm-season grasses. A great product for use in Fescue turf for pre-emergent control is Prodiamine 65 WDG.

No, Sizamine 4L Herbicide is not labelled for Buffalo Grass. It is only labelled for Bermudagrass, Centipede, Saint Augustine and Zoysia grass.

So you want to apply when your soil temperatures have stayed at least 55 degrees for 5 days. Why can't Simizine be used north of North Carolina?
Simazine Precautions: (3) Do not use north of NC. Does this mean you cannot use in MD or PA? The label precautions indicates the product should not be used north of NC for turf grass application. Are we reading this correct? The precaution is buried down in the details.

We have a mostly perennials including hostas, iris, ferns etc

Simazine 4L Herbicide can be applied over some ornamentals but be sure to check the label for your types. However, be sure you are not applying over any annuals as it will prevent them from coming up.

Simazine 4L is a preemergence herbicide only for preventing weeds emerging from seed when applied before they germinate.  It does not control anything actively growing and is not labeled for bentgrass control. Tenacity Herbicide is our most popular product for eliminating bentgrass from other desirable turfgrasses, but it does typically require multiple applications. Late summer/Fall applications will be more effective than Spring applications. If you are able to spot treat with RoundUp QuikPro, that is another option. It would still be ideal to wait at least 10-14 days after applying the Roundup QuikPro before raking out the dead plants and re-seeding those areas.

Simazine 4L Herbicide is not labeled to be used on soybeans, so we would not recommend it. The only mention of soybeans on the label is a precaution stating, "In western Minnesota and eastern parts of the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Kansas, do not plant soybeans following corn treated with SIMAZINE 4L if more than 2 qts. of SIMAZINE 4L per acre (or equivalent rate in a band) were applied, as injury may occur."

This product is labeled to be used on Red Pine (Norway Pine) and White Pine, however, it is not labeled specifically to be used on seedlings. Pre emergents stop seeds from germinating, and pre emergents are normally recommended to be used on established plants and grasses as instructed. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.
