    Q
What causes could there be for ants coming back within a week?
I live in central SC with sandy soil. Talastar kills the ants and other insects well, but I have new mounds in as little as 5-7 days. I have broadcast sprayed, treated mounds at a rate of 1 oz, per gallon and it doesn't seem to have the lasting effect of 3-4 months like advertised.
    A
Ant bait products are the best solution for effective argentine ant control and small black ant control. Ant baits will hit the colony at the source, whereas insecticide sprays such as Talstar P will only cause stress on the colony, causing it to split into a larger number of sub-colonies, making the infestation worse. We would recommend using our Complete Ant Kit which comes with both a sugar based bait as well as a protein based bait to ensure bait acceptance regardless of what the ants are lacking nutritionally. We would also like you to read over our staff written article, How To Get Rid of Argentine Ants to learn more.

  • Asked by Arnold from Greensboro, Nc

    Q
What is the best product to use around my home for general pest control?
I had a professional pest control company that I no longer use. They only used an outside barrier spray, but never had insects, except maybe a few ants. I just recently have seen some very small bugs in my house on occasion. Do you have a good barrier bug control. I am a regular customer of you folks. Thank you!
    A
Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.

  • Asked by Bryson from Vineyard, Ut
    06/09/2015
    Q
Where do I spray Talstar P for mosquitoes?
We are building a patio in our backyard for a fire pit. Should we spray the furniture and surrounding fence to keep the mosquitos and other flies away from it? Is it safe to spray on a vinyl fence?
    A
Talstar P can be mixed at 1 oz per gallon of water and be applied once a month to the exterior of the structure. We do not recommend applying it to any furniture. We suggest applying it to all non-edible shrubery and the tree foliage (especially targeting the undersides of the leaves). You can spray around window frames, door frames, the siding and lawn.

  • Asked by Claudia from New Orleans
    10/18/2015
    Q
Can I mop the floors after spraying my house with Talstar P (Talstar One)?
    A

Talstar P (Talstar One)  is labeled to be applied to cracks and crevices indoors. Mopping should not be an issue, as Talstar is not labeled to be applied as a broadcast over the floor. If you were to mop along the edges of the wall where Talstar was applied, it would take it up.

    Q
I accidentally mixed 2 oz of Talstar to 1 gallon of water. Will that make the product less effective?
    A

It should not harm anything to apply Talstar at this rate one time. We recommend that you wait for 30 days outside (90 days inside) to reapply at the rate of 0.5-1 oz per gallon of water.

  • Asked by Anna from Richmond Hill Ga

    Q
How to get rid of sand gnats for a backyard wedding in June?
We live in Georgia on the marsh and would like to have a gnat free evening in June for our son's wedding? Have any suggestions?
    A
Talstar P will offer some control if applied to the trees, bushes and grass a few days before the wedding to lower the gnat population in the area. The morning of the wedding you may want to try to use a pyrethrin based product such as Riptide in a mist blower over the whole area which will kill anything that is flying around and help repel the gnats from the area for several hours.

  • Asked by Todd from Spencer, Wi
    07/29/2012
    Q
Can I leave diluted spray in my sprayer overnight? Can I use it next day? If not why?
    A
Insecticide manufacturers do not recommend that you leave the products in the diluted states for more than 24 hours or you will risk the efficacy. The longer the products sit in the diluted state the more they will lose their potency. You can also risk breaking down the components on your hand pump sprayer.

  • Asked by Lorna from West Jefferson, Oh
    02/05/2016
    Q
Will Talstar P treat stink and lady bugs or is the overwintering product better?
    A

Yes, Talstar P is labeled for stink bugs and lady bugs. The mixing ratio is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. This will be used to spray around baseboards, cracks and crevices.

The Overwintering Kit is an excellent combination of products that protects you during your winter months with an insecticide and a dust. We generally do recommend at least using a dust with any other product, such as Talstar P, that you are using. The pests come in contact with it and dry out. This is an added protection to consider using throughout the year.

What would help with control/death of indoor aphids? It's an epidemic.

Talstar is one of our most popular products for aphids as well as any other insect.  It is our most popular product and widely used by professional companies both outside and inside homes.  You can apply Talstar to any plant, shrub, bush, or turf grass, as well as inside and outside perimeters, as long as you are not applying it to anything edible.

    Q
Grasshoppers, plague proportions, what's the recommended product?
I would like to use a hose end sprayer with the water hose. I see the video of a gallon jug - being used only around the edges and crevises. I've got to cover the entire ground.
    A
You can use Talstar P to cover non fruit bearing trees, lawns, bushes, shrubs and other areas excluding edible vegetation. Talstar P can be used in a hose end sprayer and should be diluted 1 fl oz per gallon of water for the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual for grasshopper control.

  • Asked by Toni from Port Saint Lucie, Florida
    05/09/2016
    Q
What is the best outside treatment for my centipede problem?
Of all the products that say they kill centipedes which works best for my whole yard. I have pest control come to treat inside my house. Im still getting tons of centipedes entering the house eventually dying. However my yard and driveway and front entrance is full of them where we do not treat I'm trying to take control of these darn things from entering the house. I figure now I need to treat our whole property. So which is the best product you sell.
    A

Talstar P would be a good choice to use around the inside and outside of your home to eliminate centipedes. Indoors you can apply Talstar P to door frames, window frames, places where utilities enter into the structure, and any other place where the insects can gain entry. Outdoors you should apply the product to door frames, window frames, places where utilities enter into the structure, around the bottom of the foundation and out onto the ground directly around the foundation. You can also limit favorable conditions that the centipedes need to thrive.

    Remove Favorabe Conditions

    • Fix leaky faucets or pipes and dry up wet or damp areas where centipedes thrive
    • Remove outdoor harborages near the home that hold moisture (compost, wood, or leaf piles, etc).
    • Store firewood off the ground at least 20 feet away from the home
    • Water your lawn in the morning so that it will be dry by afternoon
    • Do not over mulch flower beds, since soggy mulch is an ideal harborage for centipedes

    Q
How much Talstar would it take just to make a quart mixture in a spray bottle?
    A
We do not recommend that you use a regular squirt bottle for Talstar applications because the application will not be even. That being said, you will mix 1/4 fl oz of Talstar P per quart of water for most applications.
