Talstar P Professional Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Talstar P is one of our most popular insecticide concentrates and should do a great job for you. Talstar is best applied with a sprayer. Mix 1/2 or 1 oz. of Talstar P in one gallon of water and apply to the outside foundation of the structure, approx. 3 feet up the side of the structure and 2 feet out from the structure. Also spray entry points into the structure such as around windows, pipes, doorways, etc. We sell several high quality sprayers which will last for years when maintained properly. Talstar P is not labeled to control any type of earthworm and we are not sure if it would be effective for this use. You will be hard pressed to find any product on the market that is labeled to get rid of night crawlers as they are considered a beneficial creature.

You purchased the exact products that we would have recommended. Spray Talstar P and Riptide on trees, shrubs and bushes paying special attention to the underside of the leaves. You can also spray your lawn to help control the low flying gnats that tend to land there. Talstar P will give a long lasting residual while the Riptide will give you a fast knockdown. You can use both products in the same area to get both a fast knock down and a long lasting residual. It is best to treat in the early morning or the late evening when these pests are most active.

Talstar P would be a great choice for you. Talstar P is labeled for sod webworms, fleas and ticks and can be used on your lawn in a hose end sprayer or a hand pump sprayer. Be sure to read the Talstar P product label for application instructions as the applications can vary according to the pest you are treating.

You can apply Talstar P using a hose end sprayer. Be sure your hose end sprayer can be calibrated to the correct usage rate for the pest and area you want to treat. We do carry the Chapin Hose End Sprayer 6005 which can be calibrated for any usage rate listed on the Talstar P product label.

According to the Talstar product label you will need to use 1 oz of Talster per gallon of water and then apply at the rate of 4 gallons of dilution per 10 linear feet of trench. You will need to calculate how many linear feet you have around the structure you wish to treat to find out how much Talstar you will need to purchase. The amount of Talstar P you will need for a 5 acre property will depend primarily on what pest you are trying to eliminate. An acre is 43,650 sq ft and you will need anywhere from a 1/4 fl oz - 1 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft area. Please take a few moments to read over the Talstar P product label to find the correct usage rate for your needs.

According to the Talstar P product label "all pesticide handlers must wear a respiratory protection device when working in a non-ventilated space." Respiratory devices are not required for well ventilated spaces or outdoor applications. The Talstar P product label also says "all applicators should wear longsleeved shirt and long pants, socks, shoes and chemical-resistant gloves."

Since Talstar can only be sprayed directly into cracks and crevices around the perimeter of rooms  indoors, any type of floor cleaning you choose should not be a problem.

Talstar P can be used to help control cluster flies indoors and outdoors. If the cluster flies have already made their way indoors they will be harder to control because they usually hide in a wall void or other inaccessible area and are only visible when the house warms up. If the cluster flies are in an attic or drop ceiling or other dark area, a fly light would do a great job controlling the population. Using small fly lights such as the FlyWeb Fly Light in the house would also help to catch the flies. Spray Talstar directly on baseboards, window frames, door frames, and places where utilities (pipes, wires, cables) enter in to the building and any other crack, crevice or gap where insects can enter.

Talstar P is a water based concentrate. Most Emulsifiable concentrates have the initials EC after the name of the product.

Permethrin is not labeled for outdoor mosquito control. We would recommend using Talstar P for tick and mosquito control in your yard. Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control and tick control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief from mosquitoes and to all the tall vegetation and other known tick harboring locations.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves of plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where pests like to hang out. Talstar P should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.

Talstar P will last for about one month outdoors for mosquito control, is gentle on the plants that must be sprayed, has no odor, is water based so it doesn't stain and is very safe to use around children and pets when used as directed on the product label. You will need about 1 oz of product for every 1,000 sq ft of space you need to treat. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control. Care must be taken not to get Talstar into any body of water as it is known to be toxic to aquatic life. If you feel that keeping it out of the water may be too difficult we also carry Essentria IC3 which is labeled for mosquito control and is non-toxic to aquatic life.

There are not any insecticides on the market that will last for 6 months outdoors. What actually happens is the exterminator will spray a product and wipe out all of the insects nearby and it can take many months for the pests to build back up to an intolerable level. If you have been happy with the treatment the pest control operator has been using you can ask them what product they have been using. Most PCO's will also write the name of the product or the active ingredient on your bill as most states require this. We carry just about any product your PCO would have used. Our most popular general use insecticide among professionals and homeowners is Talstar P. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

Talstar P is labeled for whiteflies and will not harm trees as long as you follow the directions listed on the product label.

Yes, Talstar P has been used successfully for rugose spiraling whitefly on palms as a foliage spray. Be sure to follow the product label for complete usage instructions.

You can mix Talstar P with Precor IGR for flea control. According to the new Talstar P product label you can make applications as spot or crack and crevice treatments to areas frequented by pets, such as under bedding, rugs, next to furniture. Vacuum prior to treatment.

What this means is that you cannot broadcast spray your entire carpet with Talstar, you must limit the treatment to "spot" treatments (areas that 2ft x 2ft or less). If you only need to spot treat certain areas you can use Talstar for fleas. If you need to broadcast over entire carpeted rooms you should choose a product which is labeled for indoor broadcast sprays such as Onslaught or Permethrin SFR.
