  • Asked by Kara from Port Richey, Fl
    06/21/2018
    Q
I have a huge midge infestation in my yard. What and how would you recommend treating them?
    A

Talstar P (Talstar One) is labeled for a wide variety of small flying insects including gnats, midges and other small biting flies and should help reduce the amount of midges on your property. Be sure to spray the areas where you have noticed the midges landing or resting as Talstar will only eliminate those insects that land on treated areas.  Please refer to the product label for mixing and application instructions

  • Asked by Reynante from Grand Cayman Cayman Islands
    08/10/2018
    Q
I intend to use Talastar P liquid in my yard for chinch bugs. Does it require watering in?
    A

According to the Talstar P (Talstar One) product label: Chinch Bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Irrigation of the grass area before treatment will optimize the penetration of the insecticide to the area where the chinch bugs are located. Use higher volume applications if the thatch layer is excessive or if a relatively long mowing height is being maintained. Chinch Bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher application rates (Up to 1 fluid oz. per 1000 square feet) may be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the middle of the summer.

  • Asked by Erika from Newton Falls, Oh
    08/15/2018
    Q
Can I use Talstar P as an indoor broadcast spray for fleas?
I didn't read into it very carefully and broadcast sprayed my entire house for fleas..oops. now what do I do? Although everything from fleas to flies are dead.
    A

You should not repeat the treatment you have already made indoors using Talstar P. You can use Talstar P for flea control outdoors at a rate of 1 oz per 1000 sq ft around turf and ornamentals. Indoors, you can use a steamer or carpet cleaner to break down some of the residual application. At least 14 days after that application, we recommend retreating with a product for indoor flea treatment such as PT Alpine Flea and Bed Bug Aerosol. Be sure to vacuum well before spraying and then every day or every other day after. Please refer to our online Flea Treatment Guide for more tips on eradicating this pest.

  • Asked by Tanya from Centerburg, Oh
    09/04/2018
    Q
I just realized I was mixing the Talstar P (Talstar One) too strong at 3 oz to a gallon. What should I do?
    A

Making a pesticide like Talstar P (Talstar One) too strong can actually backfire. Areas that are treated with this overly concentrated spray will be repellent and insects will simply avoid the treated areas prolonging the infestation.  Simply wipe down, or wash off areas of application and re-apply at the correct rate of 1 oz to a gallon of water.

  • Asked by Ron from Houston, Texas
    09/04/2018
    Q
I've read conflicting responses as to timing of watering - wait or water immediately after Talstar application
I'm using the liquid version on St Augustine grass to kill chinch bugs in lawn. Sometimes it seem that you suggest waiting 6 hours before rain or watering. Other times it seems that you say water in immediately after application 0.25 to .5 inches.
    A

When you are using Talstar P (Talstar One) to treat for subsurface insects such as mole crickets, chinch bugs, etc., you will to water in after application per the product label.  When applying as pest control product for surface pests, you will wait to water at least 24 hours after application.

    Q
Can Talstar P be used for silverfish?
    A

Talstar is labeled for silverfish and will do a great job helping to eliminate them. Be sure to spray in all of the cracks and crevices where silverfish are known to harbor for best results. You may want to take a look at our Silverfish Control Guide for more information.

  • Asked by Frances
    02/16/2019
    Q
    Is Talstar systemic?
I am looking for a systemic chemical for spider mites on tropical hibiscus. A local garden center recommended Hi-Yield 38. Do you have a recommendation. I have 200+ plants.
    A

Neither Talstar P Professional Insecticide or Hi-Yield 38 are systemic products. We are unaware of any systemic product that is labeled for use for spider-mite control as a soil drench.  This pest is mainly treated with foliar sprays with something like Talstar P,  Avid (which is a translaminar systemic – meaning absorbed through the leaves), or Hexygon DF.

  • Asked by Roger from Debary, Fl
    02/17/2019
    Q
When should I treat for sod webworms in Central Florida? What should I use that is safe for bahia grass?
    A

The most popular product for sod webworms is Talstar. Talstar is very effective on most insects and it is safe for bahia grass. Time applications to control young larvae, if possible. Spot treatments may be applied when infestations are first detected and the damaged area is small. The treatment will be most effective if applied in the early evening when larvae begin feeding. Please take a look at our Sod Webworm Treatment Guide for more information.

  • Asked by Chris from Midlothian Va
    03/18/2019
    Q
    Does Talstar kill pantry moths?
    A

When the larva or the moths make contact with areas that have been treated with Talstar P they will be killed by the dry residual. They must contact the treated area for any product to work. Typically a crack and crevice application and lots of cleaning and vacuuming will help eliminate these pests.  We actually have a pantry pest kit put together which includes six Pro-Pest Pheronet traps for catching pantry moths, plus a 14 oz. can of D-Force Residual Aerosol with a crevice tool (straw) for spraying in cracks and crevices around shelves and walls to kill pantry pest larvae in harborage areas.  You can learn more about pantry moths by reading our Pantry Moth Control Articles

  • Asked by B from Livermore
    03/29/2019
    Q
    Will Talstar kill frogs?
If I spray with Talstar P, that will reduce all of the insects which is a plus, but will the spray create a barrier to prevent the frogs from crossing over to yard and/or kill them either instantly or delayed?
    A

Talstar is an insecticide only and will not kill frogs, nor will it act as a barrier to prevent them from coming into the area.  Unfortunately, we do not know of any products that we carry which will do so.  You are correct, though, in that using Talstar will reduce the insect population in the area, which will cause it to be less attractive to the frogs.

  • Asked by Joe from Texarkana Texas
    05/18/2019
    Q
When should Talstar P be used to control grubs in the lawn?
    A

Talstar P is not labeled to treat for grubs. Dylox 6.2 would be an excellent alternative when treating for grubs that are actively feeding. Merit Granules or Dominion 2L also work well for grubs. We do have several products that are specifically labeled for grub worms on our website: Grub Worm Control. We also recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and inquire about the best time to start treatments for grubs in your region.

  • Asked by Bob from St. Augustine, Fl
    05/26/2019
    Q
Is Talstar any good for chinch bugs?
    A

Yes, Talstar P Professional Insecticide is a great product for chinch bugs. Chinch bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Chinch bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher applications rates will be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the summer. It may also be necessary to remove the thatch layer if it exceeds 1 inch in thickness to allow the Talstar to penetrate down to the soil. When treating for chinch bugs it is recommended that you do a second treatment 21-30 days after the first treatment. You will use 1 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water. This will treat 1000 square feet. Be sure to water the product in at least 0.5 inches after it has been applied.

  • Asked by Jon from Nj
    07/01/2019
    Q
Can you mix Precor and Talstar P?
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide can be mixed with insect growth regulators such as Precor IGR.  Be aware though that Precor is only labeled for use indoors but Talstar cannot be used as a broadcast across surfaces inside the home such as carpets (it is only for cracks and crevices) so if you are treating for fleas it is not the best option as an insecticide.  Instead you should use something like Conquer or Onslaught.

  • Asked by Suzy from New Orleans La
    11/06/2019
    Q
Is Talstar effective against termites? How long?
Is there a long-lasting product for termites?
    A

Talstar P is labeled to treat for termites and lasts for about 5 years in the ground when trenching. A better option for subterranean termites would be non-repellents like Termidor SC or Taurus SC. Termidor and Taurus will last up to 10 years in the soil. Non-repellents work slower but are much more effective when treating a termite colony as they are able to be transferred through the entire colony therefore eventually eliminating the colony.

  • Asked by Phil from Drexel Hill Pa
    01/23/2020
    Q
Will Talstar P Professional Insecticide kill drain flies? Should I use something else?
Drain flys are in my drain I cleaned drains but still are popping up maybe 2/3 a day
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide will kill any flies that come in contact with a treated surface, but it is not what we recommend for drain flies. We would recommend our Drain Fly Kit, it contains all the products you should need to successfully treat your drain fly problem, and it includes products that are safe for use inside household drains. We would also recommend taking a look at our guide on How to Get Rid of Drain Flies
