    Q
Can I use Taurus SC where the drains come through our post tension slab?
I ordered Taurus from you to treat drains in house. I am thinking I want to treat walls between studs. Should I use the Taurus or a foam product, or both to treat between studs in walls?
    A

We would recommend to do a trench treament around the outside perimeter of your home using Taurus SC. You can treat between the studs in the walls and it would be better to do it with somethiing like Termidor Foam.

    Q
Is it possible for termites to still linger 6 months after treatment?
I was diagnosed with subterranean termites in my hardwood flooring late last summer. I did my own treatment with Taurus SC (mixed double strenght) in the fall. I did the trench treatment and drilled through the carport, patio and porches where the foundation was covered (and spot treated beneath several areas of damaged floor). I replaced a few areas of flooring a couple of months ago and found dead termites by the thousands. I thought everything was okay. Just this morning I found one small area of floor that looked suspicious. Thinking I failed to replace a previously damage piece I pulled it up only to find termites there. Is it possible to still have a few lingering termites this long after treatment? Thanks.
    A

Given that you applied Taurus SC at higher than the label rate, it is possible that the product killed the termites too quickly and, therefore, has results more like a repellent than a non-repellent. This would mean termites coming to the treated area die, but the product would kill too quickly to transfer through the colony and kill the whole colony. It is also possible that the initial termite colony died and there is a new infestation there. I would recommend retreating if you are finding live termites with a ready-to-use product such as Fuse Foam. Fuse has a foaming agent to help treat voids and galleries more efficiently, and it is already mixed so that you do not have to worry about using the wrong application rate.

    Q
How would I use Taurus SC for a pre slab treatment?
i'm pouring a slab and i want to treat the dirt before i pour the slab
    A

When doing a pre slab treatment you will need to use 1 gallon of mixed solution of Taurus SC per 10 square feet. You will need to know your entire square footage you need to treat and divide by 10 to get how many gallons of solution you will need total for that application. You will use 0.8 oz per gallon of water.

    Q
Does Taurus SC bond to soil like Termidor does? and does a foaming agent need to be used for application?
Do I need to add a foaming agent to spot treat inside wall voids or is a standard garden/yard, pump up sprayer application sufficient to spray inside the walls?
    A
Yes the Taurus does bond to the soil the same as the Termidor to acheive the same protection of your home. You do not have to have a foamer and foaming agent to mix with the Taurus and can use it by itself in a standard pump sprayer for wall void spot treatments. While a foam will give you further coverage behind the wall, it is not necessary. If you haven't purchased the products yet, you could get a can of Termidor foam or Premise Foam to use where you plan to spot treat so you dont have to purchase a foaming applicator and foam agent.

    Q
    Termites in a Fence
I have found that termites have just begun infesting my fence. Is this the correct product for treatment? I have seen that it should be applied around the foundation, however my fence is about 50 feet from my house.
    A
Taurus SC is NOT labeled to be used around fences. You can drill into the fence, but you would need to know exactly where the termites are. For fences, we would recommend a product called Bora-Care. Apply only to bare wood or to wood surfaces where an intact water repellent or finish is not present. Remove paint or finish prior to application. Apply one coat of solution to all wood surfaces. Apply two coats to heavily infested areas and to those surfaces where access is limited to 1 or 2 sides of wood members. For an active infestation, you will use 1 gallon of Bora-Care to 1 gallon of water.

  • Asked by Alan from Orlando, Fl

    Q
Can Taurus SC be used more than twice per year if using the 0.06% dilution rate?
We live in Florida and the raining season is upon us. Once it begins to warm up during spring/summer it rains almost every other day. Obviously the product should be applied at least 24 hrs before a rain but what happens if it is constantly raining over the summer season? We've only used this as recommended at 0.06% dilution and have done a total of two applications so far about 5 months apart. We did one last fall right as the temps were dropping and again last week as the weather warms up. It is now consistently 85 degrees here in Orlando and I'm afraid the heat and upcoming rain will diminish the product's effectiveness. Should we be using the 0.04% dilution rate instead to allow for 4 applications per year? Will this percent still be effective on the ants?
    A

You may make up to 4 applications a year with Taurus SC if you make a 0.03% finished dilution (0.4 oz per gallon of water). The application will still be effective as long as it's applied 24 hours before rain.

    Q
Is there a similar type non-repellent product like Taurus SC that can be used inside the home for carpenter ants?
I have read the information that Taurus SC is not the be used indoors.
    A

Phantom is a non-repellent that can be used indoors and Taurus SC should be applied to the exterior. Both will offer a non-repellent residual. You can retreat with Phantom liquid in 90 days from initial application and 30 days outdoors or with the Phantom aerosol. The Taurus SC will be applied 1 ft up and 1 ft out directly to the exterior of the structure twice a year. We do also carry the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel and the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Granules for control of this ant species.

  • Asked by Ray from Casa Grande, Az

    Q
How toxic is Taurus SC to reptiles?
I live where there are a lot of lizards and birds. I have ants I can't get rid of. They live around the bases of trees and cacti, as well as in the ground. If I'm careful when applying Taurus SC, will it be safe for the birds and lizards? I would only use it where the ants are nesting, and not use it as a broadcast spray.
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide should not harm lizards. It could kill the insects they are feeding on, thus making them go somewhere else for food. Taurus is a great product for ant control but it can only be used on or within one foot of a structure. You cannot use Taurus out in the lawn as this type of treatment is prohibited by the Taurus product label. We do have a wide variety of ant bait granules and insecticides that you can use out in the lawn to control ants. You can find these products by going to our Ant Control Page.

    Q
What will be the effect of overspraying Bifen IT with Taurus SC ?
I have sprayed the perimeter of my foundation with Bifen IT. This worked well for Whitefooted ants but not for Carpenter ants. If I spray over this with Taurus SC, will it work effectively for both ants?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide is a non-repellent insecticide. This means that ants and other insects cannot tell that it is there and they will readily walk over treated areas. It also has a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect which allows the ants time to get back to the colony and spread it around before they succumb to the effects of the product. Bifen IT on the other hand is synthetic pyrethroid which many sensitive insects such as ants can detect. Ants may avoid the areas treated with it and those ants that do cross over treated areas are the only ones that will be killed by the product. Bifen IT does not have a transfer effect so it will not be transferred back to the colony. While the Taurus SC will not actually be deactivated by Bifen IT it will be much less effective if it is over-sprayed with Bifen IT. You can spray Bifen IT on your trees, bushes and lawn for mosquito control as long as you are not actually overlapping the areas where Taurus SC was applied.

  • Asked by Steve from Riverton, Ut
    01/28/2018
    Q
How long does Taurus SC last outside if it is power-sprayed along a foundation?
    A

Taurus SC has a residual when used on the surface around the foundation of the home of roughly 30-60 days outdoors depending on weather and elements that affect it over time. Due to the reach a product like Taurus has through an insect population with its transfer technology, you may notice the insect population not build back up as quickly and take longer than the 60 days to start seeing new signs of pests even though the residual of the product has been broken down by then. Keep in mind that Taurus SC can be applied 1 foot out from the foundation and 1 foot up using a low-pressure hand or backpack sprayer, per the product label.

  • Asked by Stacy from Marksville, La
    04/09/2017
    Q
Will Taurus SC work on fleas in the yard?
    A

Taurus SC is not labeled for fleas. Fleas tend to live in moist shady areas out in the yard where pets or other animals spend a lot of time resting. Taurus SC however is only labeled to be used in very limited areas on or immediately next to the house or structure making it mostly ineffective for flea treatments. We recommend you use our Outdoor Flea & Tick Kit to get rid of fleas in and around your home. You should use a topical flea product that is labeled for use on animals such as Petcor if you are trying to also rid your pets of fleas.

    Q
If the foundation of the house is more than 5 feet from a well, can I still use Taurus SC?
I have a termite issue and as a DIY'er I am determined to resolve the issue without paying a lot of money to Terminix. My problem that I keep running into is my well. The well is located about 10 feet from the foundation of my home. I want to know after I trench and treat will I be contaminating my well water?
    A

In the area where the well is located, you cannot use the trenching method, only the backfill method is allowed. The backfill method instructs you to trench and place the soil that was removed onto a tarp, pour 1 gallon of diluted solution per 1 cubic ft of soil, mix thoroughly, return soil to trench. The complete instructions are listed on the Taurus product label under the heading "Treatment of structure with wells or cisterns"
