    Q
If I am using Taurus SC just to treat for ants, do I need to dig a trench?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide can be used for general pest control of various insects including ants and would only need to be sprayed around the foundation of a structure one foot up and one foot out around the perimeter.  No trenching is required unless treating for subterranean termites.

    Q
How can I do a termite barrier treatment in a semi-detached home with Taurus SC?
I live in a semi-detached home that had been attacked by termites and am planning to use the 6"x6" trench method on the exterior walls that are next to soil. The fourth wall, however, is up against another house, and I have an active infestation on that wall. How should I treat this brick wall?
    A

If you are needing to treat preventatively for termites, you need to treat around the perimeter of the structure creating a continuous barrier, as you're planning to using Taurus SC. Treating the shared wall could only be done by drilling through the bottom concrete floor to treat the soil underneath, or perhaps treating the wood in the wall void between the parts of the structure by foaming Timbor or Boracare. This is a pretty invasive treatment, but it could be done if absolutely necessary.

    Q
Do I have to trench around the foundation with Taurus SC Termiticide if I am wanting to use it for ant control?
Can I spray just around the perimeter?
    A

It is not necessary to trench when using Taurus SC Termiticide for ant control. For outdoor control of ants and other perimeter pests, mix 0.8 fl. oz. of Taurus SC per gallon of water and apply using a hand-pump sprayer around the outside of the home, spraying 1 foot up the side of the house and 1 foot out from the house, all the way around the home. Also spray around any exterior openings where pests may enter such as doors (don't spray near door handles), windows, pipes, cracks, vents, holes, etc. Also, be careful to prune away vegetation including shrubs and tree branches that may be touching the side of the house. This will keep pests from using shrubs and tree branches to bypass the protective barrier you sprayed.

    Q
Can I spray Taurus SC directly to a termite trail on a concrete crawl space ceiling?
    A

You can spot treat using Taurus SC Termiticide where you find live termites in a crawl space. However, it is best to follow the trail(s) you see to find where the termites are coming up from the ground or from a void so that you can better eradicate the colony. We also recommend a full soil treatment for the home if one has not been done in several years and you have found live termites in your home. We have more details on these in our Termite Treatment Guide here.

    Q
Is it necessary to treat the entire perimeter with Taurus SC Termiticide for termites?
If the termites go through it and carry it back and kill all termites, why treat so much?
    A

Yes, it is very important to treat the soil that meets the foundation and drill holes in the concrete to get the Taurus SC Termiticide to the soil of all possible entry ways around the structure. It does bind to the soil if treated properly and lasts many years as a barrier around your home. Termites have many colonies under the soil. You should read our "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article to learn how you can protect the rest of your home against future invasion.

    Q
Can I use Taurus SC for Flea Treatments?
    A

Taurus SC is not labeled for fleas. Fleas tend to live in moist shady areas out in the yard where pets or other animals spend a lot of time resting. Taurus SC, however, is only labeled to be used in very limited areas on or immediately next to the house or structure making it mostly ineffective for flea treatments. We recommend you use our Outdoor Flea & Tick Kit to get rid of fleas around your home. You should use a topical flea product that is labeled for use on animals such as Petcor if you are trying to also rid your pets of fleas.

    Q
Can Taurus SC Termiticide be used to spray pastures where animals graze?
We have tons of fire ants and just ants wanted to see if this would work.
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide is only labeled to be used adjacent to a structure 1 to 2 feet up and out. It cannot be used in lawns nor can it be used where animals graze. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait would be a good choice for you. Extinguish Plus can be used on pasture land and there are no grazing restrictions for companion animals.

  • Asked by Jennifer from Terre Haute, In
    03/30/2019
    Q
I have septic rock 1.5' deep & wide around home. Do I have to remove it all to trench treat for termites using Taurus?
    A

Taurus SC does not bond to rock, it bonds to soil, so if the area right up against the foundation is not soil, Taurus SC will not stick to it and it will leave you with that area of completely unprotected surface that the termites could pass through to get directly to your home. While you can do the trench just outside of this rock area, it would still leave the area under the rock closer to the foundation unprotected.  If you are able to remove the rock  against the foundation and treat several inches of the soil there that would be best and then you can do the more complete trench around the rock once backfilled in.

    Q
I have termites that infest lumber if laying on the ground. Could I soak some short boards in Taurus as bait?
    A

Taurus SC is not labeled for this type of application.  Boracare can be used to treat raw lumber to treat and prevent termites as long as this wood is not going to be burned in any way. You could spray Dominion 2L around the wood boards only on the ground but be careful to not apply to the wood.

    Q
Can Taurus SC Termiticide be used on lawns to control ants? How often would you have to re-apply this product?
    A

Taurus SC is not labeled for lawn use or any use away from the structure. You would need to apply this product around the perimeter of the structure, one foot up and one foot out. You would mix at 0.8 oz per gallon per 1,000 sq ft and treat once every 6 months. If you have ants in the lawn or inside the structure, we would advise using the other items in our Outdoor/indoor Ant Kit. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Ants for a successful eradication program.

  • Asked by Daniel from Valdosta Ga

    Q
I sprayed lawn and flower beds with Taurus SC for ant control. I see that was a no no.
Is there anything I need to do to counteract this mistake?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide can only be applied 1 foot up the side of the structure, 1 foot out into the soil, and around doors and windows of a structure.  In any areas outside of that, it is recommended to copiously water those areas in an attempt to diminish the residual and transferability of the product.  Taurus doesn’t kill insects quickly, it’s designed for the insect to pick it up on it’s body and transfer it to other insects it comes into contact with, which can be detrimental for beneficial insects like bees and butterflies.

    Q
How would I use Taurus SC for a pre slab treatment?
i'm pouring a slab and i want to treat the dirt before i pour the slab
    A

When doing a pre slab treatment you will need to use 1 gallon of mixed solution of Taurus SC per 10 square feet. You will need to know your entire square footage you need to treat and divide by 10 to get how many gallons of solution you will need total for that application. You will use 0.8 oz per gallon of water.

  • Asked by John from Wilmington, Nc
    05/12/2019
    Q
How much Taurus SC goes into each hole that is drilled and what is the best way to do this?
    A

When you have any concrete against the home (such as a patio or garage that shares walls with inside rooms) that prevents you from trenching across it, you have to drill holes every 12 inches and treat each hole with roughly 1/2 to 1 gallon of mixed solution. Each hole should be drilled with a bit that is roughly 1/2 wide and 18 inches long. Please review the Taurus SC Product Label and our article How To Do A Termite Treatment for all the proper techniques for a homeowner to treat this area.
