Termidor SC is the top termite product on the market for treatment and prevention.Termidor SC is completely undetectable by subterranean termites and once termites touch it they contact, ingest and spread the termiticide until it eliminates the entire colony and it will last for about 10 years in the soil. You should perform a liquid termite treatment in the ground to get the termites where they are entering your house and for furture prevention. Please take a few moments to review our article and videos on How to Get Rid of Termites prior to treating.
Termidor SC is not labeled to be sprayed on rugs or carpets. We would recommend disposing of the rug. If you choose not to dispose of the rug, you may contact the manufacturer for information on how to clean it so it can be used indoors again.
To treat areas with Termidor SC that have a soil to foundation interruption such as a patio, you would drill holes in the patio using a ½ diameter concrete drill bit that is 18-24 inches long. The holes will be drilled every 12 inches and filled at a rate of 4 gallons of finished solution every 10 feet, just like you were doing in the trench.
Termidor SC is a very safe product and widely used by professional companies inside homes every day across the country. Termidor SC is odorless and does not have any fumes. You only need to wear a face mask if you will be doing the application in a poorly ventilated or enclosed area. All other applications will require you to wear long sleeves, long pants, shoes and socks and gloves. Be sure to wash your hands after the application before you eat, drink, chew gum or use the restroom.
To apply Termidor SC to a home with a pier and beam foundation, you will need to trench around each pier. You will need to trench around any point where a support for the home touches the home. If the piers are hollow blocks you also have to drill a hole in each pier to treat the inside space where termites could potentially travel up without hitting the treated soil around the pier.
Termidor SC is labeled for all types of termites. How you use it is determined by the species of termites you are dealing with. If you have termites in your home, we recommend doing the liquid treatment as outlined in the "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article and then inside the home where you know you have the termites you will treat them directly by injecting the Termidor into the wall or cutting a hole into the wall and spraying on the wood or however you can get the product to the termites. It only needs to touch a few termites to work.
Termidor SC can be shipped to California but it cannot be used for indoor applications. Since you have drywood termites in the attic, the most recommended product for your situation would be Bora-Care. Bora-Care is applied to raw wood for termite control and it will penetrate the entire piece of wood and erradicate an active infestation as well as preserve it. The great thing about Bora Care is that it is natural, last for the entire life of the wood (never goes away), and dries completely clear. Termidor would not be recommended because it doesn't penetrate wood and injections directly into the affected wood would be neccessary for treatment and it doesn't last very long.
If your crawlspace is sealed then no you would not be able to dig a trench and apply Termidor inside the crawlspace, you would only apply it around the outside perimeter of your home.
Termidor SC contains an intentionally slower-acting active ingredient, so it may take several hours or longer for an insect to die after contacting a surface treated with this product. Exact timing will depend on the size and health of the insect as well as how much active ingredient it picked up. Please refer to our Carpenter Bee Treatment Guide for tips on how best to manage this pest.
The trenching application of Termidor SC is for protecting your home from termites. If you’re no longer finding evidence of termites invading your home, then the Termidor was successful. Termites travel in all directions under the surface of the soil. There can be multiple colonies in your yard alone. There is no termiticide that can be used in your garden. You can use Termite Bait Stations around your garden perimeter to help treat termites in that area.
No, Termidor SC cannot be used in any type of irrigation application because of backflow issues. Be sure to read the full product label and only apply the product as instructed.
Termidor SC is not labeled for fleas and it is also not labeled for use in a lawn so it is not what we recommend for outdoor flea control. Suspend SC is labeled for fleas and for indoor use, but it is not the best choice for indoor flea control because you can not broadcast spray it over carpeted areas. We recommend you use our Outdoor/Indoor Flea Kit to get rid of fleas in and around your home. Please take a few moments to review our article on How to Get Rid of Fleas for a successful eradication program.
Termidor SC is labeled for use on ticks, but it does have a very limited area that it can be used. You can use Termidor SC outdoors only, immediately adjacent or directly on your home. It cannot be used as a broadcast in the yard for tick control. We would recommend our Outdoor Flea and Tick Kit.
Termidor SC is the Suspended Concentrate, which is a liquid concentrate. Termidor HE stands for "High Efficiency" because it is the most concentrated product the manufacturer has with this active ingredient, which is more convenience for Pest Control Professionals who may be treating dozens of homes each week. You cannot purchase Termidor HE unless you have a Pest Control Operator's license, and you would need to purchase it from a local distributor in that case. We do not sell this product or other Restricted Use Pesticides.
When getting ready to treat with Termidor SC and digging a trench, you can use whatever equipment you have at your disposal as long as you're able to safely trench the perimeter of your home. Also, when trenching and if it rains, you could use a tarp to cover up the area to protect what's already been done.
Termidor SC is not labeled for midges and cannot be broadcast on the lawn. Onslaught would be a better option.
Termidor SC is sprayed twice a year for general pest control at 0.8 fl oz per gallon of water, sprayed 1 to 2 feet up the foundation and out on the ground.
We reached out to the manufacturer BASF for an official answer on this verbiage on the Termidor SC label. Here is what they stated.
“Not using termiticides in voids with Rigid foam insulation” is EPA required language that dates back to times when soil termiticides contained organic solvents/adjuvants which helped them remain in solution long enough to be applied but also damaged rigid foam insulation (think DDT, Heptachlor, Chlordane, or Dursban times; e.g. Pre-Termidor products from the 1950’s through 1990’s). In 1996, the EPA mandated that the language be on all liquid termiticide labels moving forward (regardless of whether the product contained solvents or emulsifiers or not). Termidor products do not contain any caustic emulsifiers or solvents that would damage/ “eat up” the rigid foam board (as the 80WG, SC, HE lines are all water soluble).”
This also applies to the generic equivalent on the market under the branding Taurus SC. If you are needing to foam into the foundation void area where there is foam rigid board, they recommend using the Termidor Foam Aerosol as this labeling does not have that verbiage and restriction on it for use.
Termidor SC is our most popular termiticide for treating and prevention of subterranean termites. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Subterranean Termites for more information on a successful application.
Termidor SC is not labeled for use around poultry houses.
