Termidor SC Termiticide/Insecticide - Questions & Answers

You cannot mix Termidor SC with Cy-Kick Cs nor would you want to. Termidor SC is a non-repellent product that works with a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect. Termidor SC also has a very limited label that only allows you to use it on or immediately adjacent to a structure. Cy-Kick CS on the other hand is a broadly labeled synthetic pyrethroid that will kill the insects that walk over treated surfaces. If you mix the two together you will be losing the non-repellent factor and transfer effect of the Termidor SC and you will be severely limiting the places you can spray the CY-Kick CS. Termidor SC is not labeled to be tank mixed with other products.

Termidor can be applied into wood directly through a drill hole.  It is used this way all of the time to treat drywood termites.  Since Termidor will not penetrate into wood on its own, the key is that you have to drill directly where the activity is and inject the Termidor into the wood.

The usage instructions for ant control and general pest control using Termidor SC is all the way at the very end of the product label and can be hard to find. You will need to use 0.80 fl oz (fill to the red measuring line on the bottle) per gallon of water for ant/general pest control outdoors around the perimeter of your home.

Termidor SC is a non-repellent insecticide. This means that ants and other insects cannot tell that it is there and they will readily walk over treated areas. Termidor SC also has a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect which allows the ants time to get back to the colony and spread it around before they succumb to the effects of the product. Talstar P on the other hand is synthetic pyrethroid which many sensitive insects such as ants can detect. Ants may avoid the areas treated with Talstar and those ants that do cross over treated areas are the only ones that will be killed by the product. Talstar P does not have a transfer effect so it will not be transferred back to the colony. While the Termidor SC will not actually be deactivated by Talstar P, it will be much less effective if it is over-sprayed with Talstar P. You can spray Talstar P on your trees, bushes and lawn for mosquito control as long as you are not actually overlapping the areas where Termidor SC was applied.

As long as the Termidor SC was only applied outside of the actual garden area it should not effect the soil inside the garden area. If there is a doubt if some Termidor SC got inside of the garden area you can remove the soil and replace it with fresh soil to avoid any contamination issues.

You will need to dig one continuous trench and just mark it off in 10 ft sections and apply 4 diluted gallons of Termidor Sc for every 10 foot of trench.

Termidor SC is a water based product and it will dry in the same amount of time as it would take water to dry. If Termidor SC is applied under your home it can take several hours to dry because the ventilation is usually poor and the sun cannot reach the area.

Termite companies do want you to believe that special equipment is needed to do a termite application because of course they want your business. Please take a few minutes to read our article How to Perform a Termite Treatment which will explain how to do the treatment in laymens terms and also explain any needed equipment. Most folks find that they only need a 5 gallon bucket and perhaps a drill in some situations. You should follow the Termidor product label and you should mix Termidor with water as specified. No special equipment is needed to diltute Termidor because it is a water based product and readily mixes with water.

You should use the Termidor SC all around the immediate exterior of your home, 1-2 ft up the foundation and 1-2 ft out onto the ground, around door frames, window frames, places where cables, pipes or wires go through the wall and any other crack or crevice where the ants can gain entry into your home. Do not spray Demand in the same exact area where you have applied the Termidor SC or you will make the Termidor Sc less effective. You can use the Demand SC in the indoor locations you mentioned.

Ants will build nests where ever they can find a suitable area to do so. While it would be unusual to have an entire colony in your attic, it is not unheard of. The good news here is that the ants are visible to you and they are still going outdoors to forage which means they will walk through areas that that you treat outdoors. We recommend you use a product called Termidor SC around the exterior of your home. Termidor is the # 1 choice for ant control around the home. Termidor is a non-repellent insecticide that works with a delayed reaction amd also has a transfer effect. That means that ants cannot tell that the Termidor is there and will walk right over it and then pick the product up on their bodies and inadvertently carry it back to the colony, then through normal social interaction the ants spread the Termidor and wipe out the colony. Termidor only needs to be applied two times per year and is effective for a wide variety of insects including ants, centipedes, roaches, spiders, silverfish, wasps and many other nuisance insects. You will need to apply Termidor SC 1-2 ft up the foundation and 1-2 ft out onto the ground, around door frames, window frames, places where cables, pipes or wires go through the wall and any other crack or crevice where the ants can gain entry into your home.

Termite control is an ongoing process. Termites can move into your area at any given time and you should always protect your biggest investment, your home, from these damaging pests.

Termidor SC is labeled for use on ticks but it does have a very limited area that it can be used. You can use Termidor SC outdoors only, immediately adjacent or directly on your home. You cannot use Termidor SC indoors or out in the yard for tick control. If you find that you do need to treat in areas that Termidor SC cannot be applied you can use Talstar P. Talstar P can be used indoors and outdoors and out in the yard for tick control.

Termidor SC is not labeled for fleas. Fleas tend to live in moist shady areas out in the yard where pets or other animals spend a lot of time resting. Termidor SC however is only labeled to be used in very limited areas on or immediately next to the house or structure making it mostly ineffective for flea treatments. You should use a topical flea product that is labeled for use on animals such as Petcor if you are trying to rid your pets of fleas.

Rodding is a technique many companies use to get the Termidor deeper in the ground than the normal 6 inch trench that you should dig.  Many homeowners that decide to treat themselves do not do the rodding part, but if you can rod then of course is better than not doing it at all.  Basically, after you dig your 6 inch deep trench, you would take a "rod", or a piece of rebar, metal, anything that you can make an additional hole in the bottom of the trench every 12 inches apart.  You can hammer or push your "rod" into the soil every 12 inches apart and try to get a couple of feet deeper.  When you pour the 4 gallons per 10 lineal feet into the trench, the rod holes will allow the Termidor to quickly get that much deeper and provide a little extra protection.  Even when this is not done though, Termidor will still provide you with the best form of protection money can buy.

If you cannot find the colonies you should consider using ant baits such as Maxforce Complete Granules and Gourmet Liquid Ants Bait in ant bait stations. Baits tend to work well because they have a delayed reaction time which allows the ants to get back to the nesting site and share the bait with the colony. It is also very important to remove piles of wood, stones and other debris to discourage nesting.  However, one of the best ant control products available is called Termidor.  It is a liquid that is labeled for outside perimeter application around houses.  Unlike most sprays that kill the ants and do make it back to the colony, Termidor is like a liquid bait....the ants carry it back for you and pass it around and eliminate the entire colony.  Termidor is the considered to be the best ant control product ever invented and is widely used by professional companies.

You can use Termidor SC indoors for carpenter ants in wall voids only. You cannot spray the baseboards or anywhere else in your home. You will need to spray directly into the wall void by drilling small holes in the wall. Other products that work effectively indoors would be Phantom Aerosol or carpenter ant baits like Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel or Advance Carpenter Ant Bait both of which are sold in our Carpenter Ant Bait Kit #1.

The most effective way to get rid of ants will be to use a product that will not only kill the ants that actually come into contact with treated surfaces but will also be transferred back to the nest. There are a variety of liquid concentrates that work with a transfer effect such as Termidor SC, Taurus SC, Dominion 2L and Adonis 2F. All of these products are for use outdoors only and should be sprayed directly on or immediately adjacent to the structure for ant control (they cannot be used indoors and they cannot be broadcast sprayed outdoors and they cannot be used on edible vegetation). You can also use ant baits indoors and outdoors for ghost ant control. Ant Baits will be picked up by the foraging ants and carried back to the nesting area and shared. Most folks choose to use a combination of products. They use ant baits indoors and in sensitive areas and they use the liquid concentrates outdoors.

Termidor is the best product for termite treatments, hands down.  It is odorless, and not only that, but it is made to bond to the soil and it will not run off or leach through the soil, so it is perfect for treatments in wet conditions. on a crawl space house,  you would trench and treat around the exterior of the structure, and you also need to trench and treat around the piers under the crawl space.  As long as you are using Termidor, you are not required to treat the inside perimeter or inside the hollow block, but of course if you want to you can. 

You can do that if you choose, but it is not as effective as drilling the slab inside the garage.  This is because the garage is a separately poured slab, meaning the termites could come from deep underground and come up to the surface under the garage slab, and enter the wall where your door is going into the house untouched.  You don't have to drill every wall in the garage, just the walls that are not exterior walls, where you have living space on the other side of the garage wall and apply Termidor.  So it is a personal choice, but drilling the garage walls is the best way to protect all entry points.

Termidor SC is not labeled to be used all over your property. Termidor SC is only labeled for use directly on or immediately adjacent to a structure which is why your pest control operator is limiting his use to these places. Dominion does have a broader usage label but it is not labeled for use all over your property for ants. If you can find the nesting sites of he big headed ant colonies you can drench them with a cypermethrin product such as Demon WP or Cyper WP. If you cannot find the colonies you should consider using an ant baits such as Maxforce Complete Granules and Gourmet Liquid Ants Bait in ant bait stations.
