Ticks Carry Diseases

tickTicks are one of the more common and troublesome pests for both humans and domestic animals, like dogs and cats. They also are a threat to the health and well-being of both people and their pets, as they are known to spread several different debilitating diseases such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. These diseases are spread because of the Tick’s method of sustenance; ticks, like fleas and bed bugs, are parasitic insects that survive by eating the blood of whatever animal they find themselves on.

Where Do Ticks Live?

Ticks are usually found in wooded areas, and often will attach themselves to any animals or humans that pass by them. Their mouth parts are structured to be able to hold on to a host despite most attempts to remove them, and once they have bitten a host they will stay attached to them until they have had their fill of blood. This often will lead to them displaying a bloated appearance and being readily visible even through thick fur.

How To Get Rid Of Ticks

Getting Rid of Ticks – Some Helpful Tips

*See our full article "How to Get Rid of Ticks" for complete tick treatment step-by-step information.

•    Because these insects almost always find their way into your home and onto you by way of domestic animals such as dogs and cats that are more susceptible to the pests, you should be sure to learn the different ways to treat your pets to keep them free of ticks.

•    Because ticks are most commonly found in yards, wooded areas, and other outdoor spaces you will want to treat any areas that your pets might come into contact with if possible. The best product for outdoor tick prevention is Talstar XTRA Granular Insecticide. It is applied to the lawn or other areas where ticks may hide and has a quick knockdown effect on any ticks that come into contact with it.

•    If you’re going to be outdoors you can keep these bugs off of you by purchasing a product such as a permethrin tick blocker which is applied to your clothing and not to your skin. It will repel ticks from attaching themselves to you and will also kill any that do attempt to bite you.
