    Q
What precautions would be required to use Timbor or Bora Care on wood for furniture building?
I use a sawmill to cut walnut and oak for furniture building. I have an active powder post beetle problem. I believe the Asian Ambrosia Beetle is the culprit. I would like to use Bora Care on the known active lumber and Timbor as a preventative on newly sawn wood. My concern is safety during milling and working with the wood later on. What precautions would be required to use wood treated with either or both of these products for typical furniture building. Unlike many uses of lumber where handling of the wood is minimal, wood used in building furniture gets a lot of hands on contact. Thanks, Mike Waters
    A

The Boracare would be the more appropriate product of the two for both active infestations and prevention of beetles and other pests. Timbor will leave a white powdery film on the surface of the wood and will only penetrate a 1/4 inch into the surface. Boracare, if mixed thoroughly before applying a…

    Q
Can Tim-bor Professional be used for foaming wall voids to treat active Subterranean and Drywood Termite colonies?
    A

Tim-bor Professional can be used in a foaming application (with a foaming concentrate and foaming sprayer) but is best for prevention more than active infestation as it only penetrates up to 1/4 inch into the wood it is applied to when used wet.  If you are foaming for active you should drill dire…

    Q
Would Tim-bor or BoraCare be recommended for mold in a crawl space?
    A

The only product that we carry that will treat both fungus and mold on wood is Bora-Care with Mold-Care. You can use this product on any raw wood or other cellulosic material (without paint, stain, finish, etc.).  View the BoraCare Mold & Fungi Bulletin for more information.

    Q
Can I apply Bora Care over a previous application of Tim-Bor?
I recently had Tim-bor applied to beams inside my 200+ year old home to treat powder post beetles. Looks like Bora-Care is the better product.
    A

You can absolutely apply the Boracare over the top of the Timbor application without any additional surface prep being required. As long as the wood is still in its raw natural state, you can spray the Boracare mixture right onto the wood.

Can I treat an exterior wooden sauna with Tim-bor Professional?
    A

Tim-bor Professional can be used on raw, untreated wood to prevent wood destroying insect infestations and decay fungi if used as directed on the product label.  As long as you wait until the application has completely dried to use the sauna, there should be no problem with treating the exterior. …

White residue left on rough cedar. Don't want to sand. Q: If fencing washed, will it stop boring beetles?
    A

    A

Per the product label, you can inject or dust Timbor at a rate of 0.5 oz per square foot when treating wall voids for insects such as carpenter ants. Q
How long does it take to dry and be ready for stain on a log home? This is in high-altitude Colorado.
    A

The dry time for Timbor honestly is dependent on the ability of the wood to absorb the product and how heavy you treat it. It could be a few hours before the surface of the wood is dry or even a day.

    Q
Will this product work on fresh-sawn wood?
I have a portable sawmill I am using to cut lumber from the trees I'm clearing for a cabin site. The wood is stacked and covered as it should but it is getting mold. Can this product be used right after it's cut on the mill to prevent this or does the wood have to be dry?
    A

Timbor Professional does not treat mold or prevent mold from growing. Mold is a surface issue caused by excess moisture and will continue to thrive as long as conditions are favorable for it to thrive. You will either want to give more air between the stacks if possible, or treat the wood with Borac

    Q
Will TIMBOR affect the foil backing on OSB plywood?
    A

Tim-bor Professional will only penetrate the outer layer of the wood (about 1/4 inch) so it is more for protection or for treating fungus on the surface of the wood, so it would not affect the foil backing on the OSB Plywood.

    Q
When using on the outside of a log home will Tim-Bor affect my landscaping?
    A

When treating a log home for protection against termites and wood boring beetles, you would want to spray the raw unfinished wood with Boracare rather than Timbor. Timbor can leave behind a white powdery residue on the wood that you may need to remove prior to staining or sealing the wood after trea…

This is a very old piece and I would like to treat it to prevent or kill anything on it Would you recommend this product and how much of it do I need?
