Product Overview

ADVION Ant Bait Gel is specifically formulated to be attractive to all major species of ants, including little black ants, carpenter ants, odorous house ants, pavement ants, and more. Advion ant gel contains the new active ingredient, Indoxacarb, a powerful, nonrepellent insecticide. The slight delay in death caused by Indoxacarb encourages ants to eat this ant killer bait and return to the nest site to share the bait with other ants, killing the entire colony. Using Advion will help eliminate ants within days of application.

Advion Ant Bait Gel is highly appealing to sweet feeding ants.  It is highly recommended to also use Advion Insect Granular Bait Insecticide or Maxforce Complete Granular Bait which are protein baits.  You should always give ants a choice as they may be in the mood for either a protein (granule) or a sugar (gel) bait.  Using Bait Plate Stations with your baits is an easy way to offer two different baits at one time.

Advion Ant Bait Gel is included in our Indoor Ant Kit which contains everything you need for a complete indoor ant treatment.

We provide 1 Plunger PER ORDER to expel the bait from the tubes.  You can purchase extra plungers or you can purchase a bait gun, such as the Masterline Professional bait gun, for use with this product.

How Advion Ant Bait Gel Works

Advion Ant Bait Gel takes advantage of the natural behavior of ants. Foraging worker ants are attracted to the sweet formula of the bait. After consuming the bait, the foraging ants will return to the nest and share the bait with the rest of the colony, including the queen(s). By ingesting the active ingredient Indoxacarb the ant’s nervous system is disrupted, ultimately ending in death.

Indoxacarb is an oxadiazine pesticide originally manufactured and patented by DuPont. Since Indoxacarb is the only chemical in its class, it offers laboratory-tested benefits that other pesticides simply cannot duplicate. For starters, Indoxacarb remains active even after digestion so it can be passed along to other insects through bait sharing. It is the first pest control bait that scientists have found to remain active after it has been transferred twice after the first lethal dose. Passing poison like this from one insect to another is known as horizontal transfer.

Target Pests

All major species of ants

ANTS CONTROLLED: all major species of ants, including Acrobat ants, Argentine ants, Big-headed ants, Carpenter ants, Cornfield ants, Crazy ants, Field ants, Ghost ants, Harvester ants, Honey ants, Little black ants, Odorous house ants, Pavement ants, Pharaoh ants, Pyramid ants, Red Imported Fire ants, Rover ants, Thief ants, and White-footed ants.

Target Uses

Advion Ant Bait Gel can be used whenever listed ants are present and foraging for sweets. Bait is simple and convenient to use, and it is ideal in situations where sprays may not be desired. Baits have extremely low toxicity in mammals, so they are safe to use in sensitive areas. Baits are also applied in cracks and crevices, so application is discreet. Advion Ant Bait Gel lets the ants take the product to the colony for you, avoiding the guesswork of finding a nest.

Advion Ant Bait Gel is also very light in color, making it ideal for placements on lighter surfaces where darker baits would be noticeable.

ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Indoxacarb 0.05%

Advion Ant Bait Gel Application Instructions

Unscrew the blue tip that comes on the tube of gel. Replace with the enclosed long application tip to assist in applying gel bait directly into crack and crevices. Remove and clean the application tip after use, cleaning as needed, and replace with the closed cap before storing to keep gel from drying.

ADVION ant gel should be applied as spots of gel or small lines of gel.

  1. Placements of spots or lines of gel should be close to active foraging trails, nest sites, or to areas known to be active.
  2. Apply approximately 1/4" in. diameter spots (about the size of a pea).
  3. Apply lines of ADVION ant bait gel of approximately 1/8" wide and 2" long; up to 3" long for highly active foraging trails.
  4. Apply as many placements as possible to active trails or foraging areas without disrupting the natural behavior of the ants.

Advion ant bait gel may be used effectively in ant bait stations.

  • Do not disturb the natural behavior of trailing ants or foraging ants, placements should be made NEAR the ants, but not on them or in the middle of the trail. By disrupting their normal behavior, bait avoidance may occur.

Each 30 gram tube of Advion Ant Bait Gel yields approximately 30 bait placements. Each box of four tubes yields approximately 120 bait placements.

Advion Ant Bait Gel is for use in the following areas:

Residential, institutional, commercial, and industrial areas, including single and multi-family residential buildings, schools, commercial and industrial facilities (including warehouses, apartments, supermarkets, restaurants, motels, hotels, hospitals, zoos, food handling/storage establishments) and transportation equipment such as aircraft, trains, ships, boats, and buses.

Indoors

Indoor applications can include cracks and crevices; along walls or floors, in and around furniture and cabinetry, behind or under appliances, around sinks, within or near garbage collection areas, attics and crawl spaces. Inspect applications periodically for consumption/activity and apply additional bait as needed. Do not apply to surfaces that food contacts or to areas that are routinely washed, such as food preparation surfaces.

Do not apply Advion Ant Bait Gel to surfaces where the temperature exceeds 120-130 degrees F because this could cause the bait to liquefy and lose effectiveness.

Outdoors

See above for general application instructions.

ADVION ant bait gel may be applied to pest entry sites such as along windows, doors, between construction elements, sewer areas, adjacent trees which ants are using as a nesting site, along walls, garbage holding areas, or other places acting as an ant nesting site. Inspect applications periodically for consumption/activity and apply additional bait as needed.

Extreme heat or cold, direct sunlight and water may reduce the residual effectiveness. Apply Gel outdoors into bait stations such as Ant Café Refillable Bait Stations to protect bait from dust, rain, and sunlight.

Advion Ant Bait Gel Features

  • Advion ant bait gel is translucent, has no odor, and is a non-staining formulation that stays fresh for extended periods. This allows ants to eat more Advion ant bait gel over an extended period of time, resulting in control and elimination of entire colonies.
  • Advion ant gel contains a unique active ingredient unlike any other ant gel, so it performs like no other.
  • Pet safe when used as directed.
  • Formulation is highly attractive to sweet-feeding ants.
  • Labeled for a wide variety of household ants.
  • Bait is easy and convenient to apply with enclosed plunger or a bait gun.

Extra Tips

  • Store at room temperature, out of direct sunlight.
  • Once a tube is opened, it should be used within 6 months for best results.
  • Remember that different species of ants forage at different times of day, and colony sizes can greatly vary.
  • Bait will dry up quickly if used on porous surfaces such as paper, concrete, or cardboard. Use a less porous surface such as bait plate stations, if needed.
  • Do not use bait in the same areas as residual repellent sprays or where there may be residue from harsh cleaning products.
  • Do not spray products on top of bait, as this may cause the bait to be less palatable.
  • Avoid bait placements in areas exposed to air currents, such as in front of vents, as this will cause the bait to dry out more quickly.
  • It is always recommended to use a protein bait, such as Maxforce Complete Granular Bait, in conjunction with a sweet bait such as Advion Ant Bait Gel.

    Advion is Great!

    By Ivan on 05/06/2010

    Verified Purchase

I have two words for ant control, Termidor and Advion. Using these two products will control your ants, period. If you still have ants after spraying outside with Termidor, then they are not coming in contact with it. You may have a colony in your walls, attic, or under your house.  I had such a situation. For these ants, I used Advion by getting a straw and cutting it into 3-4 inch pieces. I filled 2 or 3 pieces and placed them near the ants path (which happened to be in my cupboard, be careful using it around food). I left the straws there until there wasn't any more ants, about 3 or 4 days. I had this colony for years and it got them all. Now, I do an annual spray of Termidor in the spring and haven't had to use Advion since the first application 2 years ago. If you've been plagued by ants like I have (sometimes even in my bed, yuk!) do yourself a favor. Get this stuff and be rid of ants.

    Advion Ant Bait Gel

    By Mike on 05/13/2010

Worked exactly as advertised. Placed bait in about ten locations where the ants could come in. They were still around for about three days and then they were gone! Haven't seen them for three weeks and counting. Have tried traps and store bought baits in previous years with little effect. This was a referral from a co-worker and I have already recommended this product to family members. Thanks!

    The Ant Bait that works

    By Bb on 06/14/2010

    Verified Purchase

Over the years I have purchased several different types of ant bait. They all advertise that the ants will take the bait back to the colony thereby killing the rest. They never worked. I finally heard about Advion from our pest control man. It REALLY works. For the first time in years, we are ant-free.

We had odorous ants everywhere, and we tried every brand of ant killer at the hardware store. We were very frustrated. The baits were placed as instructed. Three days later, no more ants!

Q
Is Advion ant bait gel grease, oil or protein based?

Different species of ants are attracted to different foods at different times. Can you tell me what the base for Advion is?

A
Advion Ant Bait Gel is a carbohydrate based gel. Ant feeding cycles can usually be broken into two catergories, carbohydrate (sweet or sugar) feeding ants or protein (meat, grease, oil) feeding ants. In general liquid and gel ant baits are sweet or carbohydrate based. Granule and solid baits (ant bait stations) are usually protein based baits. We have put together a complete ant bait kit that includes both types of baits plus 12 ant bait stations to make ant baiting simple.

Q
Do you have products that are effective against pharaoh ants?

I noticed little ants in my kitchen, and I'm sure they are pharaoh ants based on a recent home improvement radio show here in Fort Wayne, IN. I haven't tried ant spray or anything else at this point because the "professional" on the show stated that would make the problem worse and the ants would branch off into separate colonies. I've tried Home Depot and Lowe's. Some of their products state on the package that they are NOT effective against pharaoh ants. I need a product that is specific to eradicating pharaoh ants.

A
We do carry several ant baits that are labeled for Pharaoh ant control. We recommend that you offer both a gel bait such as Advion ant bait gel as well as a granule bait such as the Advance 375A. Offering both baits will ensure that the ants will have their nutritional needs met and at least one of the baits will be accepted by the ants. Most of the bait manufacturers recommend that you also do outdoor treatments with a product labeled for Pharaoh ants such as Termidor SC. Pharaoh ants can have huge colonies outdoors and as you know smaller satellite colonies indoors. Eliminating the outdoor colony will stop new ants from moving in. Termidor SC is a a great choice because it is non-repellent insecticide that also has a transfer effect. That means that ants cannot tell that the Termidor SC is there and will walk right over it and then pick the product up on their bodies and inadvertently carry it back to to the colony, then through normal social interaction the ants spread the Termidor SC and wipe out the colony. Termidor SC only needs to be applied two times per year and is effective for a wide variety of insects including ants

Q
Which ant gel is better, Advion Ant Bait Gel or MaxForce FC Ant Bait Gel?
A
Advion Ant Bait Gel and MaxForce FC Ant Bait Gel are on a pretty even keel with each other. They are both very attractive to ants and offer a delayed reaction which allows the ants to get back to their colony and spread the bait. We can tell you that MaxForce FC Ant Bait Gel is a bit more popular which could be because it has been around longer than the Advion or because it contains Fipronil which is known to spread pretty fast through the ant colony. A lot of people use the color of the gel as their deciding factor. Advion Ant Bait gel is a white creamy color and less noticeable on light surfaces while MaxForce FC Ant Bait Gel is brown and less noticeable on dark surfaces.

Q
I put gel out and ants are coming from all over kitchen counter to it. Do i kill or let them keep eating?
A
You must let the ants eat the Advion Ant Bait Gel and return to their colony where they will spread the bait to the other ants in order to eliminate them for good.  If you kill the ants while they are trailing over to the gel you will defeat the purpose of using the bait.

Q
How do I get the advion gel bait out of the tube? Do I cut the red tip?

Two additional red tips came in the package with no instructions on how to get gel out. I have tried to twist off the red tip to no avail. Do I cut the tip? What are the two longer tips for?

A
The red tip that comes on the Advion Gel Bait tubes is a cap that screws off. Once the red cap is off you can screw on one of the red application tips. The application tip is used to help get the gel directly into cracks and crevices where it is supposed to be applied by putting down one small dot every 10-12 inches.

Q
Which product(s) should I use for massive infestation ants outdoors? (no fire ants)

I literally have ant trails on every step, tree, crack, and edge of my yard (the small ones like carpenter or pharoah) Can you tell me exactly which product(s) and how much to apply? Do I use some sort of station or apply it directly to the ground? Do I apply it next to any part of the ant trail? How close? How far apart from each other? Any help is greatly appreciated! These ants are taking over my entire property!

A
We recommend using our outdoor Ant Kit. The Outdoor Ant Bait kit comes with 4x Antopia ant Bait Stations and 2 x quarts of Gourmet Liquid Ant Bait . Ants will enter the stations, consume the bait and because of the delayed kill, will take it back to the ant colonies to share with the other ants. Placing the bait in the Antopia Ant Bait Stations will help keep it fresh, protect from non-target animals and also stop rain from washing it away. The Antopia Ant Bait Stations should be placed about 50 ft apart. You can also supplement the treatment by applying a protein bait such as Advance 375A Ant Bait Granules in your yard to help eliminate any ants that do not accept carbohydrate baits like the Gourmet Liquid Ant Bait.

Q
Does Advion Ant Bait gel kill thief ants that bite? Should I use gel bait and spray in newborns room?

Is it better to use spray or gel or both? In newborn infants room and do not seem to be anywhere else in house.

A
Advion Ant Bait gel is specifically labeled to help eliminate Thief ants. Be sure to read the product label for complete usage instructions. We would recommend using the ant bait gel in the babies room and keeping sprays outdoors around any door frames, window frames, places where cables, pipes or wires enter through the structure and also around the bottom of the foundation. Since ants typically still go outside to get moisture or food, the spray will help to get rid of them and it will also stop new insects from moving in.

Q
When is the best time to apply Advion Ant Bait Gel?

Should this be applied at night when less human traffic is in the house or in the morning when away at work? I have a 2 year old daughter and wife who would freak out seeing a bunch of ants all swarming to the gel. Also how long of a time period should we see ants flock to the gel and then dissipate? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A
You should place the gel directly into cracks and crevices near the areas where you are seeing activity so the children will not have access to the gel and it will stop the ants from being as visible to your wife and kids. Some ant species are more active during the day and some are more active at night but the time of day you place the gel will not matter. They will find it eventually. You should start see the number of ants dwindle within a week or so (some ant species have 100's of ants in the colony while others have millions so we cannot tell you for sure how long it will take to get rid of them for good).

Q
Can I use Advion Ant Bait Gel along with other hardware store bait gels such as Terro?

I have lots of Terro bait stations placed around my house that seem to be killing the ants but I'm still seeing plenty of live ones. I've decided to try the Advion Ant Bait Gel in hopes that it's kill time is more delayed and gives them time to get back to the colony. Is it ok to place this bait next to or near the Terro or will it create problems with cross-contamination. I've got the Terro placed where they seem to be feeding so it would be ideal to just add this to the same area.

A
We wouldn't necessarily recommend using a second bait if the ants are actually eating the bait. Not because they would cross contaminate each other but because they will have pretty much the same effect as one another. Instead you may want to consider using a product such as Phantom Aerosol. Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide that has a delayed reaction which allows ants time to get back to the colony and spread the product. In essence, the ants will not be able to tell that the product is in place and they will pick it up on the fine hairs all over their body and inadvertently carry it back to the colony where over a course of a few days it will knock out the entire colony. Phantom works really well because you don't have to worry about whether the ants will all take the bait, they just need to walk over the treated areas. Phantom should be applied around baseboards, door frames, window frames and places where utilities (cables, pipes and wires) enter through the wall as these are the most likely places for the ants to enter/exit.

Q
What is the size of the Advion Ant Bait Gel tubes? What is the size of the liquid you offer for flying ants?
A
Advion Ant Bait Gel comes in 30 gram tubes and there are 4 tubes per box. Flying ants are just regular ants that are leaving to start a new colony. Indoors these ants will not be able to complete their mission to start a new colony and will soon die on their own. If they are a nuisance to you, you can use pyrethrin aerosol such as Microcare to knock them down. If indeed you do have flying ants indoors this could also mean that you have an ant colony in a wall void of in some other inaccessible area indoors. You could try to put a little peanut butter and a little honey on a piece of foil near where you are seeing ant activity to see if they will start trailing. If they do form a trail this could point to where they are nesting. You will also be able to switch out the peanut butter and honey for ant bait which in turn will eliminate the nesting ants.

Q
I will be dispensing Advion cockroach bait gel, how long should I wait to check if more bait is needed?

There is light to moderate activity, not a heavy infestation.

A
You should check Advion Roach bait spots about once every couple of days at first to get a good idea of how quickly they are consuming what you have put out. If consumption seems slow and the infestation is light to moderate, you can probably go about 2 weeks between check in. If the bait becomes covered in a light layer of the normal household dust that falls, or if it becomes extremely hard and dry, wipe up the old bait and replace with new. Each bait placement should be no larger than the size of a green pea.
