Is Avid .15ec effective on Bermuda mites??

A

Avid is not labeled for Bermuda mites. We apologize we do sell products that are listed for mites, but none that are listed for Bermuda Mites. Please contact your Cooperative Extension Office and speak with the Master Gardener on staff.

Does Avid kill the soil food, web worms, bacteria, fungi, etc?

A

Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is only labeled for mites and leaf miners and thrips and would not effect any fungi/bacteria or webworms.

Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is only for plant infesting mites and cannot be used inside a home for "mites" in general. It is important to be absolutely sure you are actually dealing with mites. Have the suspected mite identified by a reputable source, such as your local cooperative extension office? or a reputable pest control operator. Treatments will vary for different pests. Treatment for say bedbugs is much different than the treatment for mites. If you do indeed have mites, you must first find the source of the infestation, usually a bird nest or a dead rodent on or in the home. Removal of the infested nest or bird and a thorough cleanup is necessary. For treatment in the home, we recommend you frequently vacuum all carpet and upholstery and dispose of the bag or vacuum contents in a sealed bag outdoors. Spray Sterifab? on couches, chairs and other upholstered furniture where you may spend time resting. Use Cimexa Dust? in all cracks and crevices around the perimeter of the room. Apply a thin coat of MotherEarth dust to rugs and carpets. Rake (not sweep) nap back and forth, causing dust to enter rug or carpet. Let product sit overnight. Repeat application as necessary and vacuum every 3 - 4 days for effective control. Cimexa dust does not have a fast knockdown, it can take several days for insects to die after they contact the dust. Onslaught can be used for a faster knockdown. Thoroughly apply as a fine particle broadcast spray using a hand pump sprayer to infested rugs and carpets and other cracks and crevices around the perimeter of each room. Put all clothes through the dryer on high heat to help kill mites and their eggs. We have had many customers use the above recommendations with great success. Most customers report that it can take several months to get rid of all of the mites. Finding and removing the source of the infestation is very important and is the key to getting rid of the mites for good.

Can you apply the Avid 0.15 EC with an inline hose sprayer? If the ratio is .04 oz/gallon how do i mix it?
Sprayer is not graduated to those small increments. I have to treat two 25 ft. junipers. What is the best way to do this?

Normally if the mixture is too low you would not be able to use this product in a hose end type sprayer and something like a backpack sprayer that has a reach with its stream closer to 20 feet would be preferred. Is there danger of burning if I spray this product during very warm weather?
I've been told my spider mites thrive in hot, dry weather, but I shouldn't spray them when it is hot and dry, because the spray will damage the trees (alberta pines). Seems like the time to kill them is when they are active--I'm confused. Have not seen this product before and am interested. Thanks

They are located in the same county and are familiar with weather,plant and soil conditions that pertain to your location.

If I left Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide where it may have frozen over the winter, is it still okay to use?

If Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide goes back into suspension, it is fine to use. If the product does not go back into a solution and has particles floating around after the bottle has been agitated, we would not recommend using it.

Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is not labeled to treat fungus gnats. Talstar P (Talstar One) is a great product to use for fungus gnat control. It is to be used inside and outside the home, but will only kill the adults as the larvae is protected in its egg form, much like a chicken egg is protected until cracked. To control the larvae you would need to mix the NyGuard IGR (birth control) in with the Talstar. NyGuard is labeled for fungus gnats as well as a large variety of other insects to sterilize the adults from being able to lay viable larvae. This will control the population drastically in keeping new ones from developing. You should mix 1 ounce of Talstar P with 4 ml of NyGuard IGR to each gallon of water you use. Talstar P can be used as a broadcast over the entire lawn or just as a perimeter treatment. You will want to focus on the mulch bed area and the underside of shrubs, bushes, or trees in the area. It is completely safe to spray on ornamentals. In the garage area, spray as crack and crevice and focus on damp areas/reducing the water/moisture. If you have containerized plants, be sure they are not over-watered and that the soil is allowed to drain properly.

• Chemical-resistant footwear plus socks
• Protective eyewear
• Chemical-resistant headgear for overhead exposure.
• Chemical-resistant apron when cleaning equipment, mixing, or loading.
• For shadehouse and greenhouse uses, applicators and other handlers must wear a dust/mist-filtering NIOSH-approved respirator with any R, P, or HE filter.

So you would not need a respirator when spraying outside as you have plenty of regular and fresh air flow.
