A soil test is the best way to determine the garden’s need for Garden Rich Aluminum Sulfate. A pH above 7.0 indicates alkalinity. The chart below indicates the amount of this needed to lower soil pH to 5.0, a suitable pH for many garden plants that thrive in acidic environments. Do not exceed the recommended amount of this. Lowering the pH too much can result in nutrient deficiencies and possible aluminum toxicity. If the pH becomes too low, it can be raised quickly with Hydrated Lime. For best results, soil should be well drained. Following application, wash off foliate and water thoroughly.
Gardens:
In established gardens, Garden Rich Aluminum Sulfate is best if used in early spring. To help intensify the blue blossoms of hydrangeas, apply Bonide’s Garden Rich Aluminum Sulfate (see chart on Label) lightly around the plant, work into the soil if possible and water thoroughly.
Trees & Shrubs: Apply 1 lb. (2 cups) of Garden Rich Aluminum Sulfate per inch of diameter or per 3 ft. of height around the drip line of the plant avoiding contact with the plant itself. Water thoroughly.

I have a 100 sq foot area with a ph of 7.0 and would like to plant blackberries. I live in Southern California.
I just planted Colorado blue spruce and I was going to buy a separate fertilizer. what would you recommend and how DO I apply it?
The Bonide Aluminum Sulfate is not a fertilizer at all but a product to help balance out the PH level in soils for plants that need a more acidic level to best grow. If you are looking for a general fertilizer for your trees then you could apply something like the Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree & Shrub Protect and Feed.
