Drive XLR8 can take up to 3 weeks to see full results on targeted weeds and a second appliation may be needed for more established weeds. Keep in mind, for best results, applications should be applied to listed weeds when they are young and actively growing and temperatures are between 65-85 degrees. For actively growing crabgrass, Drive XLR8 is mixed at 1.45 fl oz per 1000 sq ft along with adding 0.16 - 0.48 fl. oz Duo Stick per gallon of water. If only treating 500 sq ft, you would cut those rates in half, mixing Drive XLR8 at 0.72 fl oz in one gallon of water along with the 0.16 to 0.48 fl oz of Duo Stick Surfactant.
It is important to follow the recommended rates per the product label and not overmix or overtreat to avoid burning or injury to your turfgrass. You may see some discoloration, burning or wilting of your turfgrass as the rate applied of 2 fl oz Drive + 1 fl oz Surfactant over 500 sq ft is double the labeled rate.
Drive XLR8 an be applied 7 days or greater prior to seeding and up to 28 days after emergence of Kentucky Bluegrass. Please view the full product label for more information.
To avoid any turf damage, Drive XLR8 should be applied when temperatures are between 65-85 degrees. It would be best to apply in the early morning or in the evening so that the product has sufficient time to dry before temperatures get above this range.
For best results, Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer should be used along with a methylated seed oil surfactant such as Duo Stick Methylated Seed Oil.
In California many varieties of crabgrass are resistant to quinclorac, which is the main ingredient used to control it across the country. The active ingredient Quinclorac in Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is safe for fescue but resistance is possible.
Q4 Plus which is quinclorac and sulfentrazone together for the crabgrass, or Tenacity which is a completely different active ingredient all together. Tenacity though works bests as spot treatments for post emergent control, and the manufacturer suggests only targeting young crabgrass with it as mature large clumps will take multiple applications or may not see complete control when at that growth stage.
Make sure every spring you are using a pre emergent like Dimension 2EW or Pendulum 2G Herbicide to prevent the crabgrass seeds from germinating so you do not have to treat for it later in the growing season. Pre emergents should go down right at or just before soil temps reach 55 degrees consistently.
Yes. To avoid any turf damage, Drive XLR8 should be applied when temperatures are between 65-85 degrees. It would be best to apply in the early morning or in the evening so that the product has sufficient time to dry before temperatures get above this range.
It is recommended to use a Methylated Seed Oil Surfactant with Drive XLR8 for best results. Please view the product label for mix rates and more information.
Drive XLR8 should NOT be applied in vegetable gardens or where edible vegetation is grown (or areas intended for planting). Any treated edibles should be discarded.
Hi-Yield Grass Killer is labeled to treat grassy weeds and safe for Vegetables, Gardens, Trees, Shrubs, Ornamentals and ground covers. Please view the full product label for more information.
Drive XLR8 is applied at 63 fl oz in 20 gallons of water to cover 1 acre (add a MSO or equivalent to the mix for more effective control-we offer Duo Stick or DyneAmic).
Please refer to the product label for full application instructions here.
How long you will need to wait to make an application of Drive XLR8 will depend on the type of turfgrass you are overseeding with.
Please refer to Table 4 on page 10 of the product label to view the Seeding/Overseeding/Sprigging Timing Chart to help determine the correct timing for your needs.
Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is only a post emergent herbicide and will only kill actively growing weeds. To prevent new crabgrass from germinating, a pre-emergent needs to be applied when soil temperatures are around 55 degrees.
Dimension 2EW is one of the most successful pre-emergents for crabgrass prevention.

We typically recommend waiting atleast 24 hours up to 7 days in between applying herbicides and fertilizers to avoid overstressing the turfgrass unless previous applications have shown tolerance to using a fertilizer and herbicide together.
The Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer does advise that a liquid nitrogen fertilizer can cause some yellowing therefore a small test application would be recommended if deciding to tank mix.
Please review the product label for tank mixing instructions prior to mixing in your sprayer.
Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is only available in a half gallon.
QuinKill Max Crabgrass and Weed Killer uses the same active ingredients as Drive XLR8 and comes in a 16 oz and 32 oz size bottle for smaller quantities.
Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer states on the product label DO NOT irrigate the area for 24 hours after the application. If rainfall does not occur 2-7 days after the application, irrigation of at least 1/2 inch of water is desirable.
Please view the prodcut label for more information.
There is not a specific amount of time you need to wait to apply your fertilizer after applying Drive XLR8 Herbicide. Since Drive works best when it has at least 24 hours to dry after application, then waiting at least 1 day before watering or applying a liquid fertilizer would be advantageous.
Yes, you can use a pull behind sprayer to apply Drive XLR8. It is applied at 1.45 fl. oz. per gallon of water per 1000 sqft or 63 fl oz in at least 20 gallons of water to cover 1 acre (add a MSO or equivalent to the mix for more effective control-we offer Duo Stick or DyneAmic).
To avoid any turf damage, Drive XLR8 should be applied when temperatures are between 65-85 degrees. It would be best to apply in the early morning or in the evening when temperatures are at their lowest so that the product has sufficient time to dry before temperatures get above this range. If temperatures are above 85 degrees, you should wait to apply the product when temperatures are lower. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions before use.
You can use 63 oz of Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer in a minimum of 20 gallons of water to cover an acre (add MSO to mixture per label instructions).
Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is not labeled to be used on Centipede lawns therefore would injure the new centipede seedlings that are germinating and growing. You will want to wait until after the 2nd mowing of the newly seeded Centipede before making any post emergent applications.
An alternative product recommendation would be Blindside Herbicide WDG as it is safe for Centipede and Zoysia turfgrasses and labeled for crabgrass and other grassy and broadleaf weeds.
Apply at the mix rate of 0.15 - 0.23 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. (6.5 - 10 oz. per acre) when temperatures are between 65 to 85 degrees.
The most important factor when planning to tank mix various herbicides is referring to all manufacturer's product labels for tank mixing restrictions. In this case, because Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer requires the use of an MSO Surfactant like Prime Source Duo Stick Select in order to be effective, it would not be recommended due to the fact that most Turflon Ester product labels advise not adding a surfactant for lawn treatments as this can cause damage to turf grass.
As long as the application of Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer had time to completely dry before rainfall it should be fine. If it was a heavy rainfall to cause puddling or runoff, we would recommend a follow up application.
